Hi @christianskyes, excellent review and comparison! I'm considering getting the Sony PCM D100 as I plan to record longer piano sessions or chamber music at home for my channel. I was wondering if it's possible to record without batteries using the power cable, as I prefer not to rely on battery power for extended recording sessions. Your insights would be really helpful! Hello Christian, I enjoy your reviews very much..no noisy intros etc. I use my H8 for audio in my short films and documentary etc. I only use the field section. One question: Do you know with the exh-8 extension attached are safety tracks supplied to all four inputs as with the xy capsule? Don't see any info on this anywhere.

Sir I have a quick question. Do buttons have sound when you click on them? I mean does it make any beep sound like other recorders? I do have one but it seems that it does not have that kind of sound when you click a button.

Believe it or not I made a couple movies for the big screen.
But they were only in stereo.
Do you suppose the H8 could produce something in surround sound ?

Between these two, the H8 is more balanced, primarily due to the extra inputs. If you don't need as many, I'd just go for the H6.

In regards to the nicest, cleanest audio, the Sony PCM-D100. If you want something where the sound isn't quite as nice, but you have more bells and whistles, like more inputs, the Zoom H4n Pro, H5, H6 and H8 sound the same. The difference between them is that they're more suited for different things.

Why why why make a video of the sony d100?? Its no longer produced, you cannot buy it. Its even extremely rare and expensive used. It ends in a museum:)
But your video's are high standard and foremost a tuturial about recording audio technics in general.

Just because it's no longer made doesn't mean it's hard to find. It's a modern classic that's superior to more recent field recorders and specimens can be found all over sites like Reverb or Ebay. Besides, solid state devices like this can last decades if well cared for.
