The PCM-D100 was only temporarily discontinued last year. Sony stopped production in March 2021 due to a parts shortage. Sony announced on their Japan website in February that they had resumed accepting orders. "Due to the problem of parts supply, the linear PCM recorders "PCM-D100" and "PCM-D10" could not be supplied sufficiently to meet the demand, so we stopped accepting temporary orders from March 10, 2021. However, we will resume accepting orders." Amazon does have it in stock, however the price is $966! I'm glad I bought mine back in 2018.

Fascinating, I'll have to look into that!

That would be excellent news if true. I don't see any new stock anywhere though, a year later.

Hello Christian, thank you for your comprehensive review ! do you also have some permanent marks (or l light leaks ?) on your PCM D100 lcd screen ?
I just received mine and realised there are some sort of leaks at the bottom, more visible when the screen is off…
Did you manage to have the same behaviour with yours ? ( those marks are more visible form a certain angle).
    Thanks for your help !

Hmm, not sure. I no longer have it, as I periodically sell equipment I don't use frequently, but I don't recall anything like that. Had a close look at the footage I have of the last D100 I had, and I can't see anything like that.
Might be worth contacting Sony about it, as I know they have an excellent customer service.

@@christianskyes Thank you for your reply, in fact it is not visible once the screen is on, and only visible when it is off and looking from a specific angle... If you loof at Jared's blog acoustic nature, he wrote an article about the D100 after one year of use. And on the first pic you can see exacly the same problem on it's screen...
That's why I was wondering if maybe this was a common fact on this recorder...

Do you know of an external microphone that would come closest to Sony D100's built in mics? Something ideally to pair with an H6..
I'm considering getting a used D100 but if I could find an H6 + a mic that will match or exceed the sound quality, I'd probably go that direction as I don't mind the extra bulk.

Hello, Christian! Which of these recorders would you recommend for recording interviews, using as an on-camera microphone and for high-quality sound recording at events from a mixing console via a line input? I use Olympus LS-5 for this purpose, but this recorder is already failing. I'm planning to change it, I'm looking for a specific model. Thanks for answer

It seems like the PCM D100 has been discontinued. I'd like something that can pick up nature sounds extremely well since that's what I'm going to be recording. What are your thoughts about a good portable mic system that I can use? I'll be doing a fishing youtube channel and I'd like to pick up the ambiance of nature as good as possible without having to bring a jackery battery a mixing board and like 20 mics lol. Your reviews are great! Very cinematic too!

Is only the H6 compatible with condenser microphones? No other zoom?
I want to record drum covers, which one do you recommend? I have an am7 condenser microphone for samsung, would be able to plug into a recorder?

Same question here. I have an NT1 that I need to know whether I can use it as an interface like I do with my Scarlet Solo.

Not sure what's the point of reviewing and providing buying advice on a piece of gear that's been discontinued over a year ago. In the description you put a buying link that leads to several "Item no longer available" pages.

It is still possible to find it, though stocks can fluctuate. eBay is by far your best bet. I did buy mine on Thomann for example, last year, so it can still pop up from time to time.

Yup, I got my PCM D100 from Thomann last year, aswell. Recheck regularly, there and on other sites, they do pop up from time to time :) Music Store as well.

@Gunnar Fehling Sony officially discontinued PCM-D100 in April 2021. Once Thomann and other major retailers sold their stock, they won't restock something that's not being manufactured, so no point checking from time to time. So it's only 2nd hand market like eBay or smaller shops that may still have a unit. Anyway, all I was pointing out was that if you make A vs. B buying advice video it would make sense to check if both products are still being manufactured... and if not, to make instead a: "Here's a hidden gem, no longer made, but you may still be able to find it somewhere" video :)

    • @christianskyes

@@marcin_bruczkowski They do still pop up from time to time though. Not sure if there are still stocks out there that are being slowly released, or what. Who knows.
Maybe people bought them when they heard they would be discontinued, and are now selling them as brand new, unopened.
I'm pretty sure I did mention in the A vs B videos that they PCM-D100 is indeed hard to get, as it has been discontinued :)

@@christianskyes What would you recommend instead of PCM-D100 for recording sounds of nature? As Marcin Hebikan mentioned, they don't pop up anymore in stores - I have been looking for one and I have been in regular contact with several major stores in the EU for several months and no luck. Obviously they are available on ebay, but at a much higher price + shipping and taxes, so the total price becomes twice as high...
