    I agree with a lot of the mentioned points. We do have a problem with employment within the state. A lot of the natural resources are not being put to use. But there are a few things that have to be taken into consideration:
    1. Everyone in the state including my 86 year old grandma( born in pre-independent India), my driver & my gardener are all aware of their rights , can read the newspaper. However my young househelp who is from Odisha (born late 90's or early 2000's) has never ever been to school( she should be in college! Very smart young woman).
    2. Tapping the ' potential' would mean disrupting our highly protected wildlife habitats.This has to be done with extreme caution and consideration so as to prevent human-wildlife conflict, natural disasters( that come with artificial changes in landscape) as well as exploitation of the low income strata.
    3. You must remember we are a Socialist state trying to balance out capitalism, socialism and communism in the best possible way.
    4. Now unemployment in our state is actually an adverse effect of our high education levels( which demands a higher pay for a job). We have to rely on migrant workers from North and East Indian states for unskilled work that ranges from farm labour to construction labour, waiting tables at restaurants, housekeeping at hotels, house help, saloon and massage parlour staff.So our people go work abroad or in the metro cities of India( especially industry and IT related works).
    5. Our Public health is comparable to the NHS of UK. Our doctors and nurses are world renowned. What we lack in infrastructure we makeup in planning and strategy. A big hand in that is of local politicians and the general public who are well informed. We don't have the mortality rates that most other states in india do. I'm not saying the system is perfect though. What I have seen is that most people don't have insurance and find it hard to pay for their medical expenses and infrastructure definitely needs a facelift.
    6. Corruption and political misdemeanor are lower than most other states in india
    7. We like our remittances thank you.
    8. Kerala never did come forward with a begging bowl after the floods in 2018 or 2019. If anything I think we managed it extremely well. If any disaster along that scale happened in most other states in india the casualties would have been higher , the inequity in relief distribution would have been scandalous and chaos would have ensued atleast initially ( Kerala disaster management model should be part of school curriculum !)
    9. Lastly the treasures in Padmanabhaswamy kshethram not being utilised is historic artifact preservation and is not comparable to a temple now being built using tax money. Do you see the Vatican selling Michaelangelo's works?
    10.As a woman I would rather be born in Kerala than literally any other state in India ( Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai( the cities) and Goa state aren't bad)
    11.With regards to higher education other than the central government run institutions , a lot of the best uni's are in the South. Besides it's good to experience diverse cultures when you are young and be away from home.
    It's nice to hear constructive criticism, a long way to go. The complexities in the state regarding self-reliance ,industrial development
    and trade have to be sorted out.

      Very good, pointwise, analysis of the youtube video. I think you forgot to mention aspects of growing Communalism and the threat that it brings to social fabric of an "highly educated" Kerala community (recent election results are exemplar of what I want to say). Another point that I want to put forward is about your notion of "high education" seem to point towards the academic degrees rather than the actual concept of "education" which Keralites lack (except for some distorted conceptualization of Marxism, Communism, Socialism, Secularism, democracy, freedom of speech, etc.). What I find amazing is that almost all Keralites those who go out of their state to study, work, earn, settle in another state never ashamed of criticising the place from where they make lot of money just because they don't follow Kerala model. If all the other states followed Kerala model then there would have been no jobs for you in Mumbai, Bangalore, Delhi, etc., Also more competition in Gulf countries. We need to be grounded while claiming high standards of governance by not ignoring the cushion that neighbouring states offer.
      Hope, all "highly educated" community understands this truth and live peacefully.

      @@mrhellaboy well definitely all states are unique in their own way and of course you can't make other states follow every single thing which a state follows as no state is perfect. What i'm saying is every state should learn the best from each other. Then if we followed exactly like Delhi then there won't be an inch of fresh air to breathe and that would damage India's face on the world .Another example of Kerala's literate society is the fact that there is no casteism, religious killing, and anti secular activities which is highly followed by the northern states. So education does matter, and the fact a lot of people are living as expatriates is because of hardwork and dedication. And nobody is saying that literacy to be shown as academic intelligence, it is to be shown as the effort of the people to educate their society and to promote knowledge among their children.

    Agree to lot of points on how rich Kerala is. I feel that somewhere we don't want others to know that we are rich so that we can avoid them coming to our place and then making us irrelevant. Somehow, people have found solace in going abroad and doing remittances so that their family back in state can progress and they feel proud. Somewhere we just enjoy being a mix of all religions, mix of all political ideologies and we do enjoy the land. Instead of making Kerala a developed state, people prefer to go themselves to a developed place and then having that nostalgic feelings about our naadu and still have that Tharavadu and that parambu instead of the flats. So, maybe invest in Tourism and all other things Kerala is known for, like Spices,Ayurveda,Nature,Farming etc. We Keralites are indeed a different breed and our exposures are different in comparison to any other states in our country throughout world history. Also, every other states have their own issues too. Be easy on self. Things will evolve at its own pace.

Iam living in kerala and it's my birth place...the state is less industrial friendly and most industries in kerala are shut down becouse of mass labour strike and even the strike is carried by the government supporting party , the govt keep silence..at last the firm close down... So at present the unemployment rates in kerala is too high becouse of less industries and investment. It's run by the peoples remittance out side india and it's one of the best consumers state.The miss management and corruptions are the other major issues in kerala. The water authority is waiting for dig the road just after finish a new road by PWD. and many govt corporation and boards are the root of miss management. Kerala need a group of professionals and their ideas must need support from politics, that's must help Kerala to make Singapore here.

      Possible solutions :
      Adopt a more china like model - they shed their traditional Communism and adopted state capitalism .
      Without Industries, business houses and startups we will never be able to generate enough reliable long term revenue sources . That's the easiest way to reduce govt borrowings ,debts and over reliance on remittance money . Call it the contingency plan of sorts. If not Industries then soft services should be increased.Loosing your professional youngsters to other states and countries is gonna have long term negative impact.
      Red Tapeism will have to be relaxed or struck down wherever necessary . Unions should not hold unaccounted power or authority .
      Kerala will never be able to attract investments by industrialists otherwise just like in the case of "Waste" Bengal .
      All religious institutions should all be compulsorily bought under taxation .
      Currently only temples are under the preview of govt taxation .

    • @johnutube5651
      @johnutube5651 3 года назад

      Wealth of temple is not at all a solution. It is a 'dead asset' that is not productive. It just does not create any wealth, no one can eat it, yields no rent or earning while there is costs for security and maintenance. These assets are more like a museum piece. Option of tourism based on those precious items aren't even possible because of the 'sacredness' attached. Even after the Covid situation is over it is not going to happen. So the treasures are more like a burden to society than a boon. Kerala should think hard to get ahead using other strategies. Assets of the temple can only be preserved for showcasing pride / honour heritage for posterity.

    Great analysis Mr Joe. Keralites all over the world can form advisory committees based on their expertise. For eg: we are experts in Special Economic Zone or Freezone as we call in UAE. There are more than 40 freezones in UAE and each Freezone attracts huge investments. We can have a Freezone adjacent to Kochi Airport, to start with. Kerala diaspora themselves will make huge investments since Freezone jurisdiction is an area out of political activities.

    Translated it means when a dog lifts it tail, you know what it intends.
    First of all the wealth of the Temple does not belong to the state government. So please do not have your eyes on that.
    It's not only one temple the church is the largest corporate in the state with billions worth of real estate and full coffers. So are the mosques. I did not hear you mention about it.

    • @johnutube5651
      @johnutube5651 3 года назад +2

      It is not Patti (dog). Because, dogs do not lift its tail to urinate, it just lifts it leg (assuming male dog). It is Kala (bull/ox) that lifts its tail for elimination. proverb is "Kala vaalu pokkumbol ariyaam thooranao pedukkanaano ennu" Likewise, please try to understand the analogy he is making. He didn't say that the wealth of temple doesn't belong to Hindu community. See, wealth of the temple doesn't translate into prosperity of the temple or the community that it belongs to. It is merely a dead asset that is more like a burden than a boon. No body is having any benefit here. This analogy resembles the state of Kerala in general as well. Almost like a well decked bride in all finery that is affected by malnourishment. Hope you understand.

    Solution is always the difficult part. To add to ur thoughts kerala has a poverty rate is 7 which is only second to goa. The difference between rich nd poor or poor nd middle class is not that big in Kerala. We have poor people but the percentage of very poor people is less. People without a home in main town is countable in fingers. Nd in my village nd small town near by there is no one without a home. These are also to be mentioned.we dont have lot of jobs for educated people but there is enough jobs for people who just want to survive. If we solve this we can really be a model for many. Distant dream though.

      That is not an excuse my friend, if you are looking for excuses nothing will ever improve (Countries like Dubai became great in short span because they want to show the world they can create opportunity locally) . We have always been different from other states by showing the better Kerala model to other states be it literacy or health care.
      But what is the use of only education no opportunity, no. salary hike. Isn't this the short sitedness and weakness of our elders and govt. Nobody cares how the next generation will survive. Dubai proved it cares for its citizens first not cheap power politics.. Dubai has mature leadership, they don't compare with smaller countries how to improve. No instead they try to learn employee benefits and development based on forieng countries.
      Tharkutharam or avoiding criticism is just an excuse for saying 'nammade sarkar nannavulla ammava'. We are in the 21st century think of future generations to come. 🤷‍♀️😒 Ask yourself what is important people's prosperity or only power politics? The world is watching us as we watch the world.

    There is nothing new or surprising in your talk. It is all well known and talked about many times. Keralites managed to chase away whatever Industries it had. You could have made some suggestions on how attract investment and create employment opportunities in the state. Education is big business in kerala and you didn't have any suggestions to raise the standard. There is opportunity to reverse the flow and attract students from outside. The massive amount of wealth accumulated by the church and spent on building Grand cathedrals all across kerala is also missed. A lot of groups have eye on the temple wealth. Temple wealth belongs to one community and it is not the panacea to Kerala's problems.

      Is the wealth of the temple from offerings of the devotees alone? In fact, the offerings by devotees may not even constitute 0.001% of the total. That wealth is the wealth of the old rulers transferred to the temple treasury. And the wealth of the old rulers were from tax collected from all the citizens. And what kind of people paid more tax? The Royal family and the priestly class serving the Royal family or other citizen who did not have any clout of power? The tax was squeezed out of the ordinary people. And that is what is in the temple treasury now.

    Good narration Joe. This may be coming out of your sarcasm fueled pain by seeing such a mismanaged state of affairs in Kerala. We have locked ourselves into this state by successively electing politicians with very narrow and bigoted view. In a democracy, the power lies with people. I hope that these efforts will make people think and act in proper way. But many a times people of Kerala are given a choice between two mafias ( LDF Mafia or UDF Mafia). ( I am not advocate of any political party). Having born and bought up in Kerala, educated and worked in 7 states , including Kerala, I can see how other states in India which are less fortunate, are surging ahead.
    I am not sure if any political party can solve " Kerala Model" of governance , unless they think out of the box. Any wrong doing by a government is countered by saying that "Your party also have done this when they were in power".
    One immediate solution may be a political stalemate in next election which can result in a long term Governor rule.

    Well articulated. Though many people in Kerala and outside acclaim Kerala as a model state, as a Keralite living outside Kerala , I believe Kerala though has progressed materially, the state continues to lack in several parameters. The government and the people of Kerala are living through remittance economy without producing anything for their survival. The political parties win based on electoral arithmetic as certain communities votes based on their religious identity while the so called majority community should profess secularism. The greedy politicians are bothered about staying in power by hook or crook and will always find fault with other north Indian sates. Kerala cabinet is full of criminals, including murderers, rapists, The present Kerala CM was involved in the first political murder in the state. There is another minister who during his public speech openly claimed that he killed three of his political opponents. The communists have their own party villages where no other political party can function. One can find long queues in front of liquor shops where people spend large sums of money for booze but the government will spend huge money for feeding them cheap food grains. Kerala is a paradox. Though for outsiders one will find palatial houses with high compound walls, I believe Kerala's future is bleak mainly because the policy makers in Kerala believe that they are among the best. The reality is quite the opposite. Keralites still think of migrating to other parts of India or abroad and will one day become the place only for old people. Due to high wages no one can start a business especially when business people have excellent opportunities across the border. The other major porblem faces is the religious extremism which both the formations choose to ignore. I believe if Kerala has to survive as a viable state, the central government declare it as a UT and enforce strict discipline in the state. The politicians will sell the state for personal gains as can be seen from the involvement of the CM's office in smuggling and other anti national activities. Keralites chose to elect the same CM again itself is the proof of of the shallow level of intelligence of Kealites whose only consideration for electing the government is religious, political and certain freebee considerations. Only god can save this god's own state.

Why not talk about how to remove all the hindrance faced by investors who want to start projects in kerala thus creating job opportunities in Kerala. Why do keralites hesitate to do the jobs they do outside the country in Kerala? Why do we have to call people from other states to work for us when our people are going out to do the same work? How can we make Kerala more self dependent? How can we make the best use of our resources?
    When will we change some of our laws which make no sense and are not practical? How can we get our people and government to act on these? Most keralites are aware of the problems.

    Superbly analysed and questioned, thanks for making us aware @ Joe metric view, Did they not say the No 1 STEP for any change was Awareness? to create a change and its a very good reflection and observation. Haters will always hate, Please keep this ongoing so this can help many do some informed choices as we progress.

    It's a biased opinion. Vallarpadam port is still operating but not in port. Students are going out for higher education not because they don't need to study in kerala but due to the insufficient seats available. Kerala youth is going out seeking job abroad because it's easily job available in Gulf countries and they proved that it's working with huge remuneration

      You're right. The main issue of BJP has not yet reached kerala. Christianity in multiple ways is a blessing. Look at UP and see why bodies are floating around.

    Currently it's the richest state in india. In terms of infrastructure, medical facilities, public welfare. Because the prime minister of India can't even do what the CM of kerala has done. Difference is that CM listens to the wise advices provided to him. Unlike modi who never listens to anyone but himself. And its not a secret, that not even one state were able to outperform kerala in terms of handling covid-19. Even in poverty kerala had a lots of experience.

    Are you sure manorama reported about vizhinjam port on 1906 and after 114 years later started .If 1906 reported then travancore maharajas and british government must be responsible for this ..

    • @joe-metricview6035
      @joe-metricview6035  3 года назад +2

      Yes, I read it in Manorama's '100 years ago' column in 2006. Maharajas and British responsible until 1947.

    Why don't we pool funds for mega projects like CIAL and KIAL. If the mallus try to pool funds minimum of 100K Crores from NRI's and business community, the coming decades will be ours, viz . 6 Lines road system thru coastal belt (550 Miles from Kasargod to Trivandrum), or bullet trains exposing the greenary of Kerala for tourism and faster connectivity, windmills system both sea and shore especially in Idduki, etc.
