What they don’t tell you is that if you are using an iPad and GarageBand the headphone socket won’t work immediately out the box if you are using headphones at the front, so the trick is to hold down the 48v button for five seconds, pull the power cable out, put the power cable back in so there is power, and once again pull the power out. This should enable the iPad and GarageBand to use the monitor function so you can use the headphone jack properly.

That's right. Scarlett is primarily designed for macOS and Windows PC and will initially be detected as a Mass Storage Device as it ships in 'Easy Start Mode' to make the process of creating an account and accessing the bundled content, as quick and easy as possible. Those who do not want to connect Scarlett to a computer first can manually remove the device from 'Easy Start Mode' using the phantom power button as described. This is covered in the User Guide, apologies if you had not been aware of this.

@@ronabrums1506 I used the onboarding that was available out of the box, using the site that you use to download focusrite control, after you register what product you have it takes you through the steps. I was intending to use iPad pro from the start, and when I got to that stage the onboarding told me I either had to connect it to a PC first, or use the manual activation. So I don't know where you are getting your product support from. This was about 3 months ago btw, 3rd gen.

I was just about to buy a new interface for my iPad and decide to see if their was a way to use my Scarlett 2i2 with my iPad!! Happy I found this.
I have a couple questions tho,
    1. My iPad is a newer model but doesn’t have a usb c charger it’s the original one. I looked it up and found these cheap usb to regular iPad port. Would this still work or is data transferred different?
    2. Alternatively my iPhone is usb c so I can always suck it up and do it on their 💁‍♂️.
I’m a professional guitar loop creator and this lets me bring my work in the road, anywhere I go! Very excited if this works it’ll be a total game changer for me!
Thank you for showing us how this process works!

That may work, in theory, but please be aware, when it comes to iPad compatibility, only the USB-C iPad Pro is supported and this support is limited specifically to Scarlett Solo 3rd Gen and Scarlett 2i2 3rd Gen, connecting as shown in the video.
Whilst using other Scarlett audio interfaces with other iOS devices, such as Lightning iPads may be possible in theory, it isn't something that we're officially able to support. Results can vary, especially if using a third-party connection kit. Similarly, afraid none of our current products are designed or supported for use with iPhone.

I have a 5th gen iPad with a lightning cable and, today, I made it work. First, this isn't to disagree with the rep's statement below, and there was some work around, so clearly not a supported feature, yet possible. I got a small lightning to USB and lightning hub, but that wasn't enough power to make the Scarlett functionable. So I got a hub that allowed charging, yet it didn't allow lightning. However, if I combined these ... from iPad to small lightning hub ... with the lightning going to power, and the USB feed out going to main USB in the other USB hub. Then, the Scarlett is connected to a USB port on that second hub which support charging ... and it works and sends signal as desired. Good luck!

    • @FocusriteHelp
      @FocusriteHelp  2 года назад +1

Which Scarlett audio interface do you have? There are dedicated Gain controls located on the hardware. Focusrite Control on Mac and Windows PC will essentially function like a remote control, providing access to hardware features that don't have physical controls. There isn't currently an iOS app that can function this way but Scarlett is able to pass audio to and from apps when successfully connected to iPad as it's a USB class compliant device.

Hi Audun, yes this is possible but the inputs 3-4 are designed for line-level inputs, so you may need to use a DI box to boost the signal if recording an instrument/mic. A line-level input such as most keys/synths should be fine into 3-4 though.

No. When connected successfully, Scarlett will be able to pass audio into any compatible audio app. You can certainly record audio straight into the camera app.
If you're using a USB-C iPad, you may find that you can simply connect directly using that connection. Generally speaking, USB-C iPads are able to provide sufficient power for Scarlett to function.

Can you confirm that the Focusrite 2i2 3rd Gen will allow you to record vocals/guitar live to garage band while also monitoring the output of Garage Band sequencer tracks and/or live instruments WITHOUT having to use Audiobus 3 > AUM? Great video 🙏 Thank you so much. Is there a way if we can plug a usb midi also, like the way we can use it in old Focusrite iTrack Dock? I was using that and now I can’t because I upgraded my iPad mini to iPad Air which is with type C. Is there any similar product iTrack Dock for iPad Air, through which I can use USB midi, Two mic at least? Or is there any solution if I can use my iTrack Dock with my new iPad? I am unable to find any valuable information.

    • @FocusriteHelp

Glad you found this interesting, Muki. In theory, a Scarlett 2i2 setup like this one could be a solution for you. None of our current audio interfaces feature a dedicated USB MIDI input, like the one found on iTrack Dock, but If you purchase a USB-C hub with power delivery like the one shown in this video, you may find that your USB MIDI device is able to establish a connection with the iPad if it is also connected to the USB-C hub.
I should point out that this isn't something we've tested and so isn't officially supported. Also, in terms of current iPad compatibility, only the USB-C iPad Pro is supported for use with Scarlett Solo 3rd Gen and Scarlett 2i2 3rd Gen.

In terms of iOS compatibility, only Scarlett Solo 3rd Gen and Scarlett 2i2 3rd Gen are officially supported, specifically when used with the USB-C iPad Pro. That said, we would expect Scarlett to be able to transmit audio when connected to other models, providing it has adequate power, as Scarlett are USB class compliant devices. Whether or not an additional USB device will be able to draw sufficient power and also establish a connection with your iPad will depend on how you choose to connect and provide power. You may find that a powered hub of some kind works well.

However, if there is a way to export these sounds from your iPad as audio files, and import them to your GarageBand session, this would offer higher audio quality. Please let us know if this makes sense or if we can answer additional questions.

The Scarlett devices will work out of the box, but to get the full functionality (such as sample rates above 48kHz, MIDI on selected units) it is necessary to connect the Scarlett 3rd Gens with Focusrite Control on a PC/Mac platform to initialise them. You can then continue to use the unit with iOS without further need for Focusrite Control. As shown in the video, for the 4i4 interfaces and above, functions such as configuration of the channel inputs need to be administered in Focusrite Control on a PC/Mac
