This is a 3 stage vid in my eyes. The innocence of childhood, learning what love looks like (newlyweds making love), and the effect of deep abiding love (the old man crying at his wife's grave). And then capped off by the appearance of the boys father, and the boys realization of deep love. Such an amazing song and video.
Styx was one of my favorite bands of the 80's. I always wanted Dennis to do a duet with Anne Wilson of Heart. In my opinion, she had the best female voice in rock. That duet would be EPIC!!
I have not heard this song for a few decades. A whole different meaning now than then. My father was at my mother's grave until the day he lay beside her joining my younger brother. Many tears fell today.
All the heroes and legends I knew as a child have fallen to idols of clay And I feel this empty place inside so afraid that I've lost my faith... I'm crying hard as I listen to this song again and again ..
This song randomly popped into my head this morning as it was a song we sang in 7th grade choir. I never heard the original version until now but I can now understand why our Director chose it. Thank you, Styx, for this gem.
Beautiful song, beautifully sung and performed and beautifully portrayed. Thank you Dennis for writing this song and singing it only the way you could. It is one of my all time favorites and brings back may wonderful memories of a better time. Styx at their very best and untouchable.
The scene where the boy sees the old man laying flowers at the foot of a grave and begins to cry always chokes me up… this is such a great song with a very powerful message.
My grandfather passed away in November of 1990 and this is the first song I heard after we laid him to rest. And I really started to bargain with God about My life and I needed guidance. Thank you guys for sharing the way
Sometimes I like think there's someone listening our prays. But the harder I try, the more I can't figure out why things goes so horribly wrong nowadays...
Beautiful but haunting for me. My husband loved this song and played it quite a bit before taking his life 14 years ago. I always wanted to reach out to Styx to delve into its meaning.
My daughter Kelly was 2 y/o when she first heard this great song. In her baby language skill, she will sing it to me when every time I’ll get home from a U.S Navy weekend pass…she will add up words too: “Daddy, daddy show, showww me the wayyyyy” 😁🤣😂😭 I’ll never forget those happy moments we lived as a family; we travelled the world and lived in so many nice places too (not all of them were very nice to be honest though) but we all chipped in to make it work and that’s what really matters. This song will have a very special place in my heart & mind until my end of days. She’s now 33 and has her own family.
I was looking for a father's day song..don't know why..but this fit. Loved Dennis deyoung since highschool in the 70s. Feeling sad and alone and this song fit.
April 19, 2024, Friday. Philippines. When our three sons and a daughter were young, my wife Macy and I showed them they way. Now, it's them who help us out and they show us the way.
SO many heartfelt songs were put out in the 80s by Styx, Journey, Foreigner, Chicago....I could keep going but they all fell victim to band issues that stopped them from continuing their gift to the world of these types of songs. That's why there will NEVER be another era of songs like there were in the 80s.
This is the closest thing Rock music has to a gospel hymn. It's sad knowing that this is Styx' last top ten hit to date. "Every night, I say a prayer, in the hopes that there's a heaven...." To the citizens of Uvalde, Texas, We're with you, people!
Dennis DeYoung has one of the most beautiful and unique voices in music history.

I'd pay to see that duet! They both have great voices!
Wow this song is mind blowing, In a world in confusion right now, thank you.
Hello Sandra.. how are things going with you?
I have not heard this song for a few decades. A whole different meaning now than then. My father was at my mother's grave until the day he lay beside her joining my younger brother. Many tears fell today.
My Heart, goes out to you….Godspeed to your Loved Ones in this most difficult of times ✝💕
This shows many ways life happens all around us... and one boy experiencing it.
Hello Vicky.. how are things going with you?
Hope that song brings that guy out of his coma. I will pray for him.
Damn good song with an awesome message
"...all the heroes and legends I knew as a child have fallen to idols of clay..."
Best line
Best line ever !!!
All the heroes and legends I knew as a child have fallen to idols of clay
And I feel this empty place inside so afraid that I've lost my faith...
I'm crying hard as I listen to this song again and again ..
This song randomly popped into my head this morning as it was a song we sang in 7th grade choir. I never heard the original version until now but I can now understand why our Director chose it. Thank you, Styx, for this gem.
Dennis de Young!! America's BEST composer!!
Did you know he wrote a musical called The Hunchback of Notre Dame ?
Lol . STOP SMOKING CRACK
Beautiful song, beautifully sung and performed and beautifully portrayed. Thank you Dennis for writing this song and singing it only the way you could. It is one of my all time favorites and brings back may wonderful memories of a better time. Styx at their very best and untouchable.
NOW TAKE THAT LIKE A MAN LET THE TRUTH B TOLD 💯💯💯💯💯💯
The scene where the boy sees the old man laying flowers at the foot of a grave and begins to cry always chokes me up… this is such a great song with a very powerful message.
Love this song ! Thank you so much God for putting people on my path to Show Me The Way !
Hello Melody.. how are things going with you?
One of the greatest voices ever.
There’s definitely a Heaven. And a he@&. I pray the world realizes it soon. God loves us!
Yes without a doubt, my favorite Styx song. Meaningful lyrics.
I want this song to be played at my funeral. It's so enlightening.
Their #3 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 from early 1991
My grandfather passed away in November of 1990 and this is the first song I heard after we laid him to rest. And I really started to bargain with God about My life and I needed guidance. Thank you guys for sharing the way
Prayers today for the souls lost as the anniversary of 9/11/2001 May we never forget
There is a Heaven ! Love your music Styx ! The best lyrics ever ! Yours J. C. Superstar
Sometimes I like think there's someone listening our prays. But the harder I try, the more I can't figure out why things goes so horribly wrong nowadays...
Considering how divided we are as a county, this song is more relevant than ever.
Tbh, we were more divided just a few years ago.

Dennis made the most magic songs that Styx made
The visuals not just the overall video are just so fitting, synchronized - an affinity between both the lyrical, musical content and the images.❤
my sister performed this song for a choir concert at my church thank you Styx for this Mariah this song is for you sis
Beautiful but haunting for me. My husband loved this song and played it quite a bit before taking his life 14 years ago. I always wanted to reach out to Styx to delve into its meaning.
I’m so sorry for your loss. May God rest within you. 🙏🏻
Well you STILL CAN. Dennis De Young is still alive. I guess he probably wrote this one. He can be reached.
an absolutely magical song. one of the best progressive - hard rock bands to ever exist.
My daughter Kelly was 2 y/o when she first heard this great song. In her baby language skill, she will sing it to me when every time I’ll get home from a U.S Navy weekend pass…she will add up words too: “Daddy, daddy show, showww me the wayyyyy” 😁🤣😂😭
I’ll never forget those happy moments we lived as a family; we travelled the world and lived in so many nice places too (not all of them were very nice to be honest though) but we all chipped in to make it work and that’s what really matters.
This song will have a very special place in my heart & mind until my end of days.
She’s now 33 and has her own family.
❤❤❤
Why is this song speaking to me so profoundly in 2022?
I was looking for a father's day song..don't know why..but this fit.
Loved Dennis deyoung since highschool in the 70s.
Feeling sad and alone and this song fit.
This song is so awesome it's an inspirational song has a lot of meaning when someone is lost Show me the way
I have watched this video every weekend since March. It gives me strength in these tough times. Thank you Dennis DeYoung!
This song is 30 years old! Holy cow! Time flies by!
We all need this song right now 🇺🇸
Will plan to use this song as a background for my sister's funeral in a month. Showing pictures of her with this as a background.
Love it God bless America 🙏
April 19, 2024, Friday. Philippines. When our three sons and a daughter were young, my wife Macy and I showed them they way. Now, it's them who help us out and they show us the way.
Every night I say a prayer in the hopes that there's a heaven
And every day I'm more confused as the saints turn into sinners
All the heroes and legends I knew as a child have fallen to idols of clay
And I feel this empty place inside so afraid that I've lost my faith
Show me the way, show me the way
Take me tonight to the river
And wash my illusions away
Show me the way
And as I slowly drift to sleep, for a moment dreams are sacred
I close my eyes and know there's peace in a world so filled with hatred
That I wake up each morning and turn on the news to find we've so far to go
And I keep on hoping for a sign, so afraid that I just won't know
Show me the way, Show me the way
Bring me tonight to the mountain
And take my confusion away
And show me the way
And if I see your light, should I believe
Tell me how will I know
Show me the way, show me the way
Take me tonight to the river
And wash my illusions away
Show me the way, show me the way
Give me the strength and the courage
To believe that I'll get there someday
And please show me the way
Every night I say a prayer
In the hope that there's a heaven

SO many heartfelt songs were put out in the 80s by Styx, Journey, Foreigner, Chicago....I could keep going but they all fell victim to band issues that stopped them from continuing their gift to the world of these types of songs. That's why there will NEVER be another era of songs like there were in the 80s.
This is the closest thing Rock music has to a gospel hymn. It's sad knowing that this is Styx' last top ten hit to date.
"Every night, I say a prayer, in the hopes that there's a heaven...."
To the citizens of Uvalde, Texas, We're with you, people!
Sometimes , you need to have your “faith” shattered to see the way things objectively are. Only then, can you can can be shown the true “way.”
This song is more poignant and meaningful now than ever before.
So true.. so meaningful now than ever !!
It certainly is.
God, I love this song
