Styx - Show Me The Way (1996 John Panazzo Tribute)

- Опубликовано: 29 май 2009
- Taken from the "Return to Paradise" tour, recorded in Chicago (Styx's home town) in 1996, this song is dedicated to John Panazzo, drummer for the band since they were TW4, or the Tradewinds, on the streets of Roseland, Chicago, back in the late '60's-early '70's. John, along with his twin brother, Chuck, and Dennis Deyoung were the nucleus that brought James "JY' Young and John Curulewski (years later replaced by Tommy Shaw (1976)) in to the group that would later become the mega-group Styx.
This song was originally released on the 1989 album, "Edge of the Century" and became the anthem (not of Styx's doing) of troops sent to the Middle East during the Gulf War. Видеоклипы
Best song on the whole album by far. No matter what people say, DeYoung was MOST of what Styx was.
I have to totally agree with you. Dennis’s unique style is why Styx has been legendary. The other members are impressive as well but it makes me think about Queen and with Freddie Mercury’s tragic loss, they’re not quite the same and I’m definitely not putting down Adam Lambert by no means but even he has said he’s no Freddie Mercury and he’s not even going to try.
@@conniedebruyn8045 it's true. People are different. :)
Put #STYX in the #HOF NOW! #LONGOVERDUEDAMNIT!
Dennis DeYoung was STYX
I went to the Styx concert in 96 in Detroit and they did the tribute to John the same way as in the video and I don't think there was a dry eye in the place. Very beautiful tribute to John. He was so young.
Roxann Balonek Same here in Minneapolis. Not a dry eye.
The lyrics of this song are unbelievable. And the performance is WOW!
"Every night I say a prayer in the hope that there's a heaven
And every day I'm more confused as the saints turn into sinners[...]"
I still get chills everytime I hear this song.
NEVER give up on Jesus because of ppl..ppl will let you down 100% of the time! Jesus will NEVER let you down - He lifts you up!!
What a Beautiful Tribute! I miss the original STYX!!!!!
It is a tragedy that this band is not in the Rock n Roll hall of fame. A complete tragedy.
This song reminds me that we are all fallible. I also remember that Styx played at Norfolk when we returned from the Gulf.
April 22, 2024, Monday. Philippines. Beautiful song, with a timely message. Yes, let's pray that the Lord Almighty will always show us the way.
This video brings tears to my eyes. John was such a talented drummer taken way too soon due to addiction. Another tragic loss in the music industry.
John and Bob Panozzo, my old Bumtown neighbors. May this band one day get together for one "Grand Illusion"!! Put aside your BS and we'll pack a stadium with all Roseland fans!! Can such a reunion be possible? Tradewinds 4 played at Mendel for our homecoming, can we see you guys together one more time????
What a song what a voice. This guy sings his a** off. No auto tune. Sounds like the record. I’ve seen him before the pandemic with his band several times. In his seventies and still sings like this. Underrated keyboard player as well.
They had a lot of great songs. This was always my favorite. Great voice.
Incredible!!! I've heard this song so many times and never knew it was Styx.
GREAT DRUMMER,.... FOR A GREAT BAND !!
Such a powerfully emotional, and uplifting song. One of Dennis DeYoung's best. And that is why, ladies and gentlemen, there is no styx without him.
Always loved this one, and now it is so timely as we are losing so many people not only to the pandemic, but a lot of iconic names in sports and entertainment have shuffled off this mortal coil over the last three months.
Awesome tribute. I was fortunate enough to get to see Styx and John in Billings Montana in 1982 during the Paradise Theatre tour. He was a truly gifted and talented drummer and played his ass off that night. A night I will long remember. RIP John.
Very cool!! I saw Styx in Dallas the same year. It was a Great Concert!!!
magical lyrics never never to be repeated in history future, present.
This song rings so true with a lot of us.
Bravo! I'm a big Styx fan from many years!
Dennis is the man.and the voice of STYX.
IN YOUR FUCKIN DREAMS !!!!!!!!!!!
Yes he is . And him and Tommy together were great
I wonder if DDY will ever rejoin STYX
I remember hearing this song for the first time, it was during the gulf war of 1991, even now it is giving me goose bumps
Who's listening in 2019, almost 2020..the song hit me all of a sudden..beautful lyrics.. RIP JohnPanazzo

That's just amazing. I love Styx in any iteration. Lawrence is fantastic as well. Too bad they had all the drama with Dennis. An incredible voice. In a world of rock stars with huge egos, it's rare indeed for two talents like JY and Tommy to coexist for all these years. Says to me that the music is above all else.
I really think no one realized how I'll Dennis was. His eyes are still bad and he could never perform. No doubt he was a very talented man.
@@catherineferguson7646What issues did he have with his eyes ?
Wish Styx would tour 1 more time with Dennis.
Hard to believe it's been 18 years. R.I.P. John
The best of styx, song of memory
When I am gone in the way of dear John Panazzo, I would love that so many people would mark my passing with harmonious song and celebration of all the things I loved and honored. People like my children Jerrod and Holley, a good man that loves and supports me in all I do named William, all of my dearest friends, my beloved pets and all those that educate the children of our Earth with knowledge, love and appreciation of the Arts!
I miss Dennis DeYoung in Styx
Styx, Chicago and Earth Wind and Fire were the soundtracks of my childhood and teen years
Ok . Mine were deep purple, rainbow, Sabbath, triumph, UFO, Judas priest, skynyrd, acdc, early Nugent, early kiss, van halen, grand funk, some styx , some journey , some bad company, some pink Floyd, Beatles, three dog night, some Chicago , krokus , montrose, Sammy hager, for starts
A classic!
Your service to our country is appreciated!
I love this song!! I love John!!
Beautiful.......
Incredible tribute voice and song
Just beautiful! Rest in Peace John! I will always miss you! Godspeed!😇🙏
So much emotion here..
This is the first time I hear it, and I loved it! what a beautiful song, so deep...😍
love this song
This was such a loving tribute to John Panozzo. I love this song. I had attended their Tinley Park gig, which the internet shows it was June 14th,1996. I remember Kansas opened for them. I had brought their photographs with me, which I had taken at TOTOS a week or so earlier. Of course, I am unable to find my ticket stub at this moment. Holy Cannoli! I would SWEAR I saw myself in this video! At 3:45, there is a person that reminds me of myself, where I was at Tommy's end of the stage (stage left) and was taking photographs wearing my favorite Pink Panther shirt. It's funny, 'cause that is EXACTLY what I do today at Styx gigs! :) Only now, it is with a point & shoot camera. :P :) Peace & Love
Ok, but John died on July 16,1996
Great song! Thanks for posting this.
Great performance! RIP John.
GOD SHOWS US THE WAY REST IN PEACE.
I just want to hug Chuck. He's thinking of his brother.
it's the melody to my heart
I was at this concert...and my parents knew Styx when they were TW4/Tradewinds. The original Styx is my favorite band...oh, yeah, I'm from Chicago.
John Panozzo 🥁🥁
luv luv luv this song
I STILL have my 8-tracks of "Styx"; Release date: September 1972, Wooden Nickel Records, "Styx II"; Release date: July 1973, Label: Wooden Nickel Records, "The Serpent Is Rising"; Release date: October 1973, Label: Wooden Nickel Records, "Man of Miracles", Release date: November 8, 1974, Label: Wooden Nickel Records; and the first A&M records label release of "Equinox"; Release date: December 1, 1975, Label: A&M Records. Tommy came a bit after that, and really added a whole new dynamic to the harmonies and musical presentation, very enjoyable, to be sure, but please don't deny yourself the early magic. All their work is truly powerful.
My favorite song of alltime!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
beautiful!
Classic!
another favorite
I love this song....i remember mi fiends when childs
WE ARE THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD. THE ETURNAL FLAME.
It's crazy that this Styx REUNION was 20 years ago (1996), and Dennis DeYoung was talking then about "the past 35 years." So that's 55 years if you count up to today and include The Tradewinds (1961-1965) and TW4 (1965-1972). It's tragic that John died so young and unfortunate that the rest of the band couldn't work out their issues with Dennis. I'm only 36 (so I was only 16 when this happened, and I didn't really know about Styx back then), so I never really got a chance to see them perform together. When Styx tours today, it's without Dennis, and from what I've read, it's not even remotely as good as it was with him. I can't imagine Dennis's tour would be all that great either.
If Eddie and Alex van Halen can figure out a way to tour with David Lee Roth, then I don't see why Styx can't figure out a way to at least coexist together to give their fans what they want. (Then again, I'd rather see Van Hagar, but I'm probably in the minority on that one.)
"Life is very short, and there's no time
For fussing and fighting, my friend
I have always thought that it's a crime
So I will ask you once again
Try to see it my way
Only time will tell if I am right or I am wrong
While you see it your way
There's a chance that we may fall apart before too long
We can work it out"
-- The Beatles
+Daniel Dougan Totally agree with you. Same thing happened with Journey and Steve Perry. But for both bands, it's time to put the bad feelings aside and get back together for the fans. :)
REO did the same to Gary who needed help and they abandoned him. Only mended fences when it was too late. I'm still very bitter over that.
Band Chicago also craps on all former members forced out and fired ones. Peter Danny Donnie. They tried to make Danny sit out the drums on 1 of the 3 songs at the HOF.
Great song, great group. I proposed to my (now) wife when they and Kansas came to Cincy with this reunion tour. She did not know the story behind the song at the time.
Daniel Dougan I saw them in high school they were sooooo awesome! Great musicians and performers. What a great band to bad that they couldn't solve there differences.
My number one best among all songs, thank you for playing..
One of my fave songs growing up...always one of d best songs
I was a harp player in a blues band and it split up. My two best friends were in it. I managed to keep their frienships and stay close as a brother but they havent talked to each other for over six years. So sad! Alot of musicians have really bad egos, ive been around them most my life. I would never allow music to get in the way of friendships. I personally havent been in a band since then, i just session play and jam alot.
+Jim Chumley You can here some of my UH NO utube videos. Im not as great as kim wilson, little walter, john hopper, jason ricci(jason is unbelievable) but thouroughly enjoy playing ans also jamming live. One such video is titled Jimmy C and E C. See what you think! Keep jammin'
+Jim Chumley Sorry i meant you can hear, yes i do know how to spell LOL

This song had a big resurgence for 911 and it's anniversaries
This was the real deal
I was at the show in San Bernardino, California, home of the US Festival. Magnificent
I was there too!
Dance in Feb 1963 and they were GREAT! Roseland Rick

Misael Cailo

great...........................
(cries)
Yeah, I was at the show in San Bernardino, California. Notice the lighters. Try that today😉
The bass player here is Chuck Panozzo. John was his twin brother. Chuck is still with the band today.
Awesome song guy's🥀🕊🥀
Listening after hearing Dennis sing this in his Living-room April 29th 2020
these are gods of guitars!👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍💪💪💪💪💪💪
It must have been very difficult for Chuck to be up there knowing his brother wasn't behind the drumkit.
You could see both the pain and the love on his face
Yes
"And every night I say a prayer please accept Dennis back as a member of Styx!"
The real voice of Styx.
Pray.
beatifull
Thanks 🙏
For once, Dennis de Young did something nice for a change. Him and the rest Styx doing a song in remembrance of their drummer, John Panazzo. Rest in peace, John and keep on rockin' in paradise!!!
great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Listening in 2023
@ravenshadow1969 Todd Sucherman. Still with Styx. Amazing drummer.
enjoy..............
wow............................
Love
Thank You John for your great work with Styx. You will never be forgotten. Thanks to Styx for this emotional tribute. Every song just brings back great memories.
Someday i will sing this to jesus
Kudos to Tommy for giving his all seeing how he wasn't on this album. However I'm still pissed at the way they got rid of Dennis. Styx is horrible without Dennis
Clearly Dennis is a very talented guy, but he and Tommy just despise each other. Apparently the rest of the band agreed with Tommy since they voted him out.
Michael Halas You clearly haven't seen Styx without Dennis and had an open mind. Styx is still just as good. They have more energy now too. If a reunion is meant to happen, then it'll happen. Bitching about it in the comments section on RUclips isn't going to change anything.
I’ve seen both tours, Dennis is much better with his current lineup then Tommy’s group
Michael Halas dennis refused to tour
@Sean Morrison The time Dennis refused to tour, he was very sick, so they replaced him. Not cool IMO. Journey did the same thing to Steve Perry.
It's a different story when band members can't get along, but there wouldn't have been a Styx without Dennis DeYoung, or at least nobody would have cared 50 years later.
yes....
Tommy Shaw!
Woow Mantap 👍👍👍👍👍
yes.......................
Good
enjoy..........................
