I haven’t felt this much awe since I was a 19-year old kid who discovered Zebra for the first time. I’m not sure what I should be more thankful for. Zebra for introducing me to something so wild or you, for teaching me how to play this song.
At age 10 my 1st guitar instructor was a guy named Rocky Seal who was a huge part of Zebra's live sound & light show but he never had a chance to teach me how to play Who's Behind the Door. I'm 50 now, taught guitar for 30 years & figured it out on my own years ago. I am extremely happy that someone picked such an awesome song to do a lesson video on, the parts are 100% correct and the instruction here is clear n easy to follow. From a native New Orleanian, Big Thanks Dave. You done good Brah
Hey Dave ,Thanx for great lesson! When I was a kid in the 80's I could only stand in awe of Randy Jackson's talent. Must've seen Zebra close to 50 times! 2 days with your lesson I can now perform this song(No vocals thank you). Great feeling! Thanx again
Thanks, I never tried to play this but, now I know I couldn’t have without knowing the tuning. I’m going to give it a try. Your tutorial is right on. I enjoy your play style, very talented.
This has been my favorite song for over 30 years, I have struggled to learn it using standard tuning, and I've got 'close' but no where near as close as it might be using the modified tuning. I'll have to give that a shot. I love the 'play by play' of finger positioning. Great song, and you showed how to approach it well. From a fellow 'old guy', thanks. My next song from Zebra to play would be 'Why', which I'll bet gets a whole lot easier assuming the same tuning.
Lol been playing this song for over 20 years in standard tune I never realized there’s a special tuning for this song. I always thought there was something different going on when I play along with the zebra CD. And it looks like some parts are going to be easier to play rather than standard tuning. Can wait till open mic night at the bar this one should turn some heads I,ll just pray to god that I don’t miss a note when I get up there.
Great job on explaining this, Dave! This song has resonated/haunted me for so long. I write original songs on 12 string and have always wanted to learn Who’s Behind the Door, not only to have it sound amazing when playing it but to also help spring new ideas. I’m looking forward to getting it down and playing it for others as well as myself. Randy Jackson’s talent, creativity and musicianship are truly so amazing! Thank you for interpreting this beautiful song with the awesome lesson!
Absolutely fantastic arrangement of the song!
Nicely done. Back into the woodshed. Thanks for sharing. Love this tune.
