Never get tired of hearing this tune. Brings back the good times. In my car by myself cranking it loud and just cruzin. Those were the days. ZEBRA followers are select people. Thank goodness
That’s because singing falsetto is considered cheating . It works for a couple of songs on their first album, but ultimately water seeks its own level and the record company drop them . You don’t have to believe me about the cheating, look it up . Having said that it is fun, listening to Rand the hold that long note . Wow.
I’ve always loved this song. I asked for a 12 string guitar a year and a half ago for Christmas, just a cheap one as I didn’t know how to play yet, though I do know how to play the piano. Well, they didn’t have the cheap one, so my husband bought me this beautiful red one that sounded absolutely fantastic. I didn’t even know it was such an amazing name until I started taking lessons. Anyway, I play by ear a lot and catch on quick. One day I asked my teacher to help me figure out the intro to “Who’s Behind The Door” because I couldn’t find the sheet music with the intro. I got the basic notes, but not the others with them, so together between our ears and a tutorial video (where the guitar was tuned to D, I kept mine in E) we figured it out. Funny, he never heard the song, but he loved it. Then I found this video one day and decided to watch it. Imagine my shock to find that the guitar being played was the same brand as the one I myself own, a D’Angelico! Now I feel even more proud of my red beauty, Constantine! ❤️
I met Randy on a plane ride back from Florida several years back and was taken by his generosity of spirit, his sense of humor and his continued passion for the music that we all love. Rock on Randy! Great interview Donna!
Back around 82 I was working as an airbrush artist at Smith Haven mall at Different Strokes, bring back any memories to you guys? That was me outside the store on weekends. I airbrushed an album cover of a Zebra and brought it to one of their gigs to present it to them. They were gracious enough to invite me backstage during one of their brakes and let me hang with them. Randy, like everyone here has said was one of the nicest guys. Really kind and gracious. Glad to see hes still playing 43 years later wow.
Can't stop listening to Zebra! I've been a fan since 1983 and still am today. The guy has still got great pipes, not to mention his guitar skills. I think it's cool that he mentioned Greta Van Fleet too!
Randy Jackson has so much going for one man. Amazing guitarist. Amazing vocalist. Amazing writer. Most of all though, a truly amazing person and such a massive pleasure meeting him after a show on Long Island several years ago.
Where did you meet him? I met the band at the Mad Hatter in Stony Brook decades ago. They were all totally awesome guys. So down to Earth and friendly.
Jersey clubs late 70s Zebra was one of my favorite club bands, the always did the best Zepplin covers. Them, Twisted Sister, White Tiger and The Rock Kids all great bands and great times.
Still loves this song I was 13 when I seen Zebra in Bksfld.Ca. opened for Sammy Hagar. I was more impressed when randy sang who's behind the door such a awesome sound with the 12 string I can remember it like it was yesterday.
Seems like a great guy, glad he's doing what he loves still and isn't jaded like many others. Still has the voice which is amazing. Hope he has a blessed life.
Zebra … you guys are pretty cool. Thanks for bringing back, once again and one more time, all the good vibes from Who’s Behind the Door. It still sounds great!
randy a true musician. thanks for the great music...some people are just so talented it takes your breath away...to still look and sound this good almost 40 years after this was released defies all the laws of nature.
Whether you're a fan from New Orleans, Long Island, Newburgh (IN) or Arlington (TX) you gotta love how well Randy pulls off "Who's Behind the Door" unaccompanied!
ROCK ON Randy!!... NO AUTO-TUNE, NO drums, NO keyboards and your vocals are STILL MAGNIFICENT!! Thanks for the info. on playing the 12. Just like a sore pecker, you can't beat it!
I'm a fellow Long Islander and remember the great times my friends and I had going to see Zebra at the local clubs. Always put on a great show. Great guys too. I had the privilege to meet them over 40 years ago at a club in Stony Brook. I believe it was called the Mad Hatter. My memory ain't what it used to be but certain things you never forget.
When I first got the Zebra album I wore out the one side with Who’s Behind The Door on it. I very surprised that they are not played on the radio in Chicago but I actually heard Who’s Behind The Door on the radio the other day and I Freaked Out. Great Band !❤❤❤
I just saw a Google article that list of 13 bands that were “just like Rush“ zebra was not one of them and I about flipped my lid!! I actually think this band what they put out was very underrated… We listened to this stuff constantly back in the day and I put it on now and still get pumped up !
I saw Zebra for the first time in 1977, at St. Christopher’s CYO, in Metairie, Louisiana as a 13 year old… Back then, they only had 4 songs of their own… One More Chance - The La la Song - Take Your Fingers From My Hair - and As I Said Before…
Love this band .I remember seeing them 40 years ago at Six flags ampatheater in Eureka missouri . Just ordered my first 12 string and this is the first song im going to play on it. Randy is a real insperation in my life
Oh, man, I remember going to "Speaks" on Long Island (Island Park) watching these guys, blown away by their talent...especially Randy who played guitar like Page and sang like Plant...at the same time! Holy crap, these guys were so awesome (still are)...thanks for great music in my clubbing days!!!
One of the biggest and most beautiful voices in rock and roll! Randy the nicest guy with a very generous and kind soul. Love this and I love Zebra. Been a fan since the early 80’s and have been blessed to catch shows in Dallas.
Inspiring creation of a song, and the twelve-string sounds robust. He's an elderly fellow now, but still great live, unplugged performance. My respect and admiration.
Piaseczno1 ... You bringing up that he’s “elderly” now only shoved my nose in how fast we lose life’s middle years. Hearing this performance put me RIGHT BACK in my adolescent bedroom, using a pencil & ruler to graph the cover image of the “Zebra” cassette, drawing it in high contrast on large paperboard. The problem is, I feel that was almost YESTERDAY-not 1982/3! This time, the lyrics were about confronting mortality, and seeing it sung by a 63-yr-old RJ only makes me feel the compression of time. Where the HELL did it go? I feel like a fossil after watching this! Anyone else struggle w this reality when seeing your favorite teenage band members in 2019-as elderlies? 😞 😀✌️
Great upload & interview, Donna. Always great to see Randy. Been wonderful following Zebra since '83. Love you guys, always ready for new stuff from Guy, Felix, & Randy. Rock on & God Bless!
My first Zebra show was in Tulsa Ok in 1983. They opened for Cheap Trick and after their set my mind was BLOWN! I was a huge RUSH fan and seeing three guys play like that was a huge inspiration to my sixteen year old brain. I was blown away with their playing and how they all sang backing vocals. After they were done Cheap Trick should have just went home because ZEBRA was a much better band! Fast forward 20 some odd years and the poor guys were booked to play a tiny little dump in Pensacola FL and they were put on a terrible rickety stage and I think they only managed to play for half a set and the police shut the show down. After the show we sat and chatted with Randy and Guy and Felix and I could tell that the show was not the success that they had hoped for but they were still really nice guys and tolerated us "fan boys" and hung out for a while until their gear was loaded into the truck. The show they played was still great even though it was cut short and was in the back of a dumpy club! Randy and the guys were such a class act, I am glad they are still around and doing well!
Agree. I saw them with Cheap Trick in San Diego (same tour). I was biased being from New Orleans but can honestly say that they did blow Cheap Trick away that show (that's not easy seeing how Cheap Trick was particular known for performing great live). Zebra never got what the deserved. Blame Atlantic Records.
Man, where'd he get those vocal cords? I was a fan of this in the 80s but just to sit down at that age with no music studio or backing tracks and belt that out is amazing.
Never get tired of hearing this tune. Brings back the good times. In my car by myself cranking it loud and just cruzin. Those were the days. ZEBRA followers are select people. Thank goodness
Damn Randy can still hit those high falsetto screams hard to believe at 64 here wow !
That’s because singing falsetto is considered cheating . It works for a couple of songs on their first album, but ultimately water seeks its own level and the record company drop them .
You don’t have to believe me about the cheating, look it up . Having said that it is fun, listening to Rand the hold that long note . Wow.
Your number 1 in "Roaming the Skys "
music❤❤❤❤❤
As a teen in the late 70s early 80s, Zebra was my Rush...if that makes any sense. More rock than prog but just a fantastic trio.
Definitely! Growing up in New Orleans Zebra was everything to me!
makes perfect sense to me!
Same!
Right there with ya. Those first 2 albums are brilliant .
Use to see them at Southpaws in Bossier city and Circle in the Square in Shreveport in early 80's

Of my 3000 CD collection nothing comes close to the emotion Randy invokes with his voice and phenomenal guitar playing
I'm from Peru and i know this song almost 40 years and like it a lot.

Where ever they are😇if you became a lawyer, it would have been huge loss to us❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
NOLA !! Seen them in NOLA when I was still in High School ! Awesome Memories ! Still listen to there music till this Day ! Thank You
The song that did it for me. My first concert in 83' I'll never be the same. Still playing guitar because of him, thanks Randy😉
Man. The pipes on this guy still. I can't think of one artist from the '80s that can still do it as well as this guy. Sheer talent.
In my opinion, they are criminally underrated. And it's sad more people don't know of their music. Just fantastic

OMG!! What a great rendition of the song by Randy himself!!! WOW!!!

Great Song!!!!! Zebra!!!!! The Best!!!!!
randy a true musician. thanks for the great music...some people are just so talented it takes your breath away...to still look and sound this good almost 40 years after this was released defies all the laws of nature.
Can’t wait to hear him live in Jackson, MS Dec. 6th, 2024
Whether you're a fan from New Orleans, Long Island, Newburgh (IN) or Arlington (TX) you gotta love how well Randy pulls off "Who's Behind the Door" unaccompanied!
Did they have their base in Indiana at one point? I never knew that
he's so freaking talented...I was a kid on long Island in the 80s...I remember zebra was big on the island as they were popping...still love randy
@@jb-yi4di Sadly no. I grew up there. Been a fan since the early 80s and luckily have seen Zebra and Randy's solo shows many times over the years.
Randy is a Legend. Just Amazing!
ROCK ON Randy!!... NO AUTO-TUNE, NO drums, NO keyboards and your vocals are STILL MAGNIFICENT!! Thanks for the info. on playing the 12.
Just like a sore pecker, you can't beat it!
Perfect song for those who know that there is more than we have been told…
You are so lucky to have Randy Jackson from #Zebra playing "Who's behind the door." I'm from Long Island and Zebra is iconic! 🤘🏻

Damnnn that is fucking awesome
if people only knew how much it took to do that… Wow

It's amazing the shear talent of this man. One of the greatest records of the 80s

Always takes me back. So good. So good.

Amazing!!! Glad he isn't shy :) belting out those long high notes I noticed her checking out his dental work.
The intensity that builds in this song, just awesome! Love this band, still have their first album( vinyl) when it first came out!
That was glorious
Love it ! Zebra was very cool.
Truly outstanding....
Is holy crap, the man's still got the chops.
The national owed radio stations should have put Zebra on the playlist since day one along with repeated rest
Beautiful
Class act!
