Another excellent episode. Ellen Cleghorne was a great cast member, and such an underappreciated talent. I can't believe how little they were paying her! In comparison to other cast members, and just in general.
THANK YOU FOR HAVING HER! SHE IS NEVER GIVEN HER FLOWERS AND APPRECIATION. FIRST AFRICAN AMERICAN FEMALE CAST MEMBER! AND I LOVE YOU ALL DAVID SPADE, DANA CARVEY AND ELLEN CLEGHORNE AND ALL SNL ALUMNI!!!
Sorry for the all caps 😂❤❤❤❤❤
My favorite stand-up joke of all time is Ellen's: In college I got a degree in theater and anthropology. So now I can act like I found something.
I love how much fun you guys have in these! ❤ Fly On The Wall is such an excellent podcast.
Thank you for this! I love Ellen Cleghorne. It's sad to hear that she was so underpaid and ignored by the writers but she still stands out to me as one of the most memorable cast members. One of my favorite SNL skits of all time is 'The Proud Pattersons' with her, Sinbad, Chris Rock and Tim Meadows; "My chicken-fried steak don't NEEEED no salt!" She's gorgeous and talented and it is so cool to get to know her personality a little more and learn about her life before and after SNL.
The irony of Carvey's McCartney bit here is that McCartney appeared on the song "Vegetables" by the Beach Boys. So he would've totally sung Choppin' Broccoli if Carvey had asked him. That would've been great.
Anyway, it's unreal what Cleghorne was getting paid in comparison to others. She was such an integral part of the show. She and Julia Sweeney had some big shoes to fill when Jan Jooks left and they were great. Cleghorne always comes to mind when I think of 90's cast members.
I wish they would've asked her more.
Ellen Cleghorne was great on snl. I especially love her character in the sketch when shes playing homosexual woman visiting during the christmas holiday. Whenever she spoke about her girlfriend she was speaking in a booming voice 'ISN'T SHE GORGEOUS'
"I'll put the cows to sleep" LOL💜
Columbine Kerfuffle and Sandyhook Snafu... genius. So funny!! Also, shocking about the pay for cast members. "Only work one day a week" what??
I have always loved Ellen! I got to hire her over Jerry Seinfeld for a college entertainment showcase once upon a time. When she popped up on SNL I was really excited because I knew what she brought to the table! She was great!
But man SNL sounds like a sweatshop! Even in the 90’s those weren’t living wages in NYC.
IMO, I think SNL did a disservice to Ellen by not mentoring her more or pushing her further. I remember her on SNL and she was funny but was sprinkled in here and there. I'm sure she could've got bigger with a push from Lorinne ( for example..). It's too bad.
Just makes me so angry that she was only getting $245 per episode. I can't get past that.
Same 😤
How the heck do you live in new york with that kind of paycheck?
The show is being filmed. They mention the cameras and video a lot. So why aren't we seeing it?
David is not alone with breaking the corners off his pop tarts ❤
I wonder why they did not discuss her sitcom she did after she left SNL or her role as Micheal Che’s mom on his show Che.
Damn….Ellen was short changed. She’s so funny…great episode!
Such a good laugh
she did 3 seasons earning less than $1000 an episode. WTF??? So fucked and sad...at least Ellen is up beat and not bitter, but holy fuck I would be! Props to u all!
Ellen did an excellent job interviewing these 2.
Wait, you said breaking is entertaining to a point? Um, yeah. To the point of asphyxia from laughing so hard for 20 years! Did you see Debbie Downer at Disneyworld?? Oh, wait, you were in it!!! To a point. Now that's funny. Thanks for another great episode! To be honest, you are changing the way I think about comedy. Thanks!
“Comety”
Does David Spade not know that "Take the Hit" is one of the top ten stand up specials of all time
No video sadly but was she actually wearing a mask during the interview? Crazy

She was always one of my favorites I miss seeing her btw there is SO much outrage in the comments about the 245$ a week Lorne better watch his back lol💜
Get Damon wayans on here
Kamala Harris & Tim Walz 2024.
"What makes you think I won't cut you?" - Ellen as belligerent NBC page with attitude.
just still reeling at $245/episode
Oof... Spade called Chris Rock "articulate."
But he also, later, says "Dana is really good at articulating...."
He also called Molly Shannon (another white person) "articulate" at the 48 minute mark of their podcast with her.
So, take it easy with the wokeness -- maybe only use it when it applies?
@@ChrisZ70Wow, you really did a deep search through other interviews to make that point huh?😂
