    5th Gear was a great show... didn't quite have the polish of Top Gear but at least they had a host that knew how to drive. Your BA is coming along great Brownie, I've been fixing mine up a bit too (with the help of your videos). I'm keeping it pretty much stock though, just fixing broken stuff and doing some prevention on the known issues. Every time I hear yours though it makes me want to do that muffler upgrade. It sounds great.

    • @BrowneysGarage
      @BrowneysGarage  3 года назад

    Big mouth ss induction kit bringing in larger space for air flow
    Dea performance exhaust system with pacemaker extractors.

    Given the length of time spark plugs, especially iridium plugs stay in place, I like to use a high temperature anti seize grease on the threads.
    You'll always be able to get them out again.

    • @BrowneysGarage
      @BrowneysGarage  3 года назад +3

      I'd guess that there is no harm in doing that if done right, and in fact I was going to do exactly that until I looked into it. A lot of the plugs, from what I've since read, are made with a coating already to act exactly as an anti seize would and actually advise against using a further anti seize.
      Doubt there's any big factor against using anti seize as well other than it not being necessary and some say it will affect torque readings/feel but how many people 'torque' spark plugs anyway!
      I could still be very wrong though...

    i must say browney, i have a na mk2 fairmont ghia, have had it flashed tuned from a map written by max performance on a bf xr6, did stuff all, leaned it out a bit up top, best thing you can do is diff gears.I put some 3.45 diff gears with a tru trac in mine and it goes a lot harder off the line, only now deciding to go turbo, still on my ps so have to keep it stealthy

    • @BrowneysGarage

      Videos are a touch behind, sorry you felt that way but I’d say I definitely picked up a bit with the tune.
      4 speed or 6 speed? I’ve got 3.45 already and could really use 3.7 at least with the BTR if I was concerned about drags or traffic light stuff.

    Great video Browney! Some good tips in there too. I don't remember seeing the mileage on your car so my power guess isn't going to be an informed one. So I'd say, at the wheels, about 140-150kw. I won't be disappointed if it's higher. Good luck.

    Great videos, I like your humour. Question:- Why didnt you replace the coils as well? They are fairly cheap insurance too and can fail at anytime?

    • @BrowneysGarage
      @BrowneysGarage  3 года назад

      Thanks mate. The coils should have a pretty long service life and, while not a huge expense, still aren't nearly as cheap as a set of plugs at $150 odd I believe. Wouldn't be the first time a new coil has come faulty and caused it's own issues so I elected for a 'if it's not broken, don't fix it' approach on those.
      Each to their own though, not the worst idea to do these while you're in there.

    • @BrowneysGarage
      @BrowneysGarage  3 года назад +1

      Wow really! Shops like that don’t deserve your money mate, it’s not going to pick up quite like a turbo but there’s definitely gains to be had.
      Depends where you are but I’ve gone to Maxx Performance in Dandenong and been really happy with it so far (this video is a few weeks behind 🤫). The only negative, and it isn’t much at all, is they’re pretty flat out so be sure to factor in a full day out there even if they hope to get it done earlier.

    Are the ngk spark plug good or just stick with the original

    • @BrowneysGarage
      @BrowneysGarage  3 года назад

      From what I've seen the consensus in these seems to be to stay original, and they're not terribly expensive with a good service life so that's what I've done. I have used NGK in earlier SOHC engines though and had no problems but never with huge power anyway, and never in a Barra.

    • @BrowneysGarage
      @BrowneysGarage  3 года назад +1

      @Alex Fawke Depends big time on the gearbox too, for reference a stock BA with the BTR auto on their dyno makes around 140kw. Then they reckon add another 15 or so if manual or ZF.
      It’ll be covered in the video but you’re right, the BA will be the base and give people a good indication of what’s possible and then add on top of that figure BF and onwards 👍
