When the 20p was released in 1982 the mint issued a silver proof piedfort version. It was an interesting coin as it was not only the first of the new 20p’s but also the first modern piedfort. The mintage was supposed to be limited to 10,000 so I thought it must be a good buy. Roll forward 40 years and it sells for £25 vs the issue price of £15 (£68 in today’s money). You cannot win them all but I still think it’s a beautiful coin.
In passing, may I ask the poster to clarify the position on badly cut coins? I have put aside a 10p piece 1992 that is mishaped, as the cutting tool did not cut the coin correctly. Therefore, one side has an edge with extra metal. Thank you for your consideration to the above.
I'm not particularly interested in error coins, but I do keep an eye out for them. Also the 20p isn't my favourite coin because they wear quite badly in circulation. I do have one from each year and about half of them are either proof or BU. The "Lions Arse" did nothing to endear them to me.
I had a 20p that the pool table wouldn't accept. It was rather dull looking, but otherwise in decent condition. It was visibly thinner than regular 20p's, which is probably why it was rejected. Anyone know if i've let something valuable slip through my fingers?
Hi I have a very rare coin. It's a 1974 1p with a part 1/2 penny stamp on the obverse. I found it in my change in the mid 1970's and still have it wrapped up in mint condition. I have never shown it to a coin dealer or tried to sell it. I think it will be a one off. Does anyone have any thoughts?
Hi,I have a very cool looking 20 pence coin, that I can't find any information on...basically, it has what I can only describe as sun rays, behind the queens head,a very impressive coin...this was found in circulation.....anybody else ever seen such a coin please??

Very hard to price
Some sell for £100+
Others fail to sell for £30 reserve
Always some value, best to let the market decide
