thank you for the video. You showed two options of locking the anchor in place yet you can move the picture around. Why would you want to use that? Does it force you to only move the picture around in that "anchored" paragraph? Is there another option to do the wrapping without having the anchor? I need to move the picture around where I want in a document, and I do want the ability to put it in front of the text or behind the text, but I don't want to have it be anchored to one paragraph. I just want to move it wherever and have that text either shift (square) around the picture or just let me put the picture in the white space I create with paragraph/margin settings.
Another thing that influences picture positioning is the text wrap. Not sure what the difference between "top and bottom" and "in line with text" is, or if it has anything to do with anchors. I play with both to get the required result.
Many thanks, Chester. Is there any way to get rid of the anchor completely? I mean to make the picture (or object) completely indepedent from any text? (I'm using MS Word 2019).
"Fix position on page" in word wrapping options and setting the wrapping to square (or front of text) should do what you want. If you don't like the anchors being visible, you can turn them off in Words options.
@@fernandotovar5652 I was publishing a book and struggling with anchors. It was one of the most difficult days of my life. It is seared into my memory like the birth of a child, the assassination of John Lennon, the winning of a lottery, Krakatoa erupting, the discovery of a vaccine that would restore world order.
I have a document that has several anchors I must get rid of. When I do that by deleting the images, then insert entirely new images in their place that must be "in line with text", those images are somehow BEHIND the text above it and I can NOT fix this strange issue. I've been wracking my brain trying to find the answer, and searching for days on the internet and no one is giving tutorials or answers as to how to deal with getting rid of anchors for real. Do you know sir?
Why sometimes I have huge white spaces like this guy ( superuser.com/questions/1370092/position-textbox-within-2-pages ). What is the option that allows me not to have any gap? Please save me a I have Tuesday deadline and I cannot get rid of those gaps! Thank you
Thank you Chester, that was extraordinarily helpful.
Thanks, Chester! Very lucid explanation of a tricky subject!

Thank you very much, I learn something new from your video.
Simple and concise. Thank you.

Well explained. Thx

how do I resize my photo in order for it to fit into a box that is anchored in Word? How do I know the size of the anchored box??
yep, that's very helpful. I wish I'd found this on 7.2.2016
James, sorry I a little late then for you
Why on exactly that date?

@@JamesThomas-fj7ih Oh damn! I hope at least you were able to finish your book on time
thanks a lot.
Thanks a ton!!! :)
If you don't want the picture to move with the text (why many are here), 1.)RIGHT CLICK PICTURE 2.)under WRAP TEXT 3.)uncheck MOVE WITH TEXT. 👍
great
Cheers

Uncheck "move object with text" and that's all. It is the option next to "lock anchor"
Dealing pictures and tables in Word is just a disaster
