Usually the older houses had a parlor. Which I think was the other room. It is a beautiful house and I am with you on why people paint over woodwork.

Historically wood was painted, often with a brown wood paint, this was so cheaper wood could be used and nobody was any the wiser, white paint was used for trims and ceilings, walls in public rooms would have paper and be very showy private rooms ie upstairs was just painted with a distemper, bit like paint. ❤

Our house was built in 1920,about half as big as yours. We have the ceiling vents and the marks, on the floor where walls were, we just left them sanded it down and stained it. Looks great. I replaced all the windows twenty years ago. It helps in the winter. We heat with wood also. You have alot of projects ahead of you, be patient, and have fun. Thanks for sharing.

Beautiful home guys don’t get discouraged by all the work, I looked at this way in Port Hope with my Victorian fix and restore something every year even if it’s just one room.
What you guys have accomplished so far in the short amount of time you have been there is amazing.
The cellar in my Victorian had the same stone foundation work as there was a bay window from the cellar all the way to the third floor bedroom in the attic.
Speaking of the attic make sure you bring us along with you when you go up there bring the camera 😊
    Loved the fridge footage lol
I didn’t know if I should ask this but any signs of ghosts? There might be just listen for them!

J'aimais beaucoup votre maison hors réseaux.
Vos animaux, vos plantations cela me paraît gigantesque.

Your home is vinyl sided, which unfortunately has removed all the detail & flattened the façade of the house. If you want an original 1900 home, remove the vinyl siding and get to the beautiful wood clad siding under the vinyl. Oh, & restore the original front door.
