“In armlock putting, the grip of the putter is pressed against the forearm, but the club is not anchored to the body in a way that restricts its swing. The crucial difference is that, while the forearm provides a point of contact, the club itself is still free to move with the natural motion of the arm. This technique is deemed within the rules because it does not create the kind of anchoring that the rule intends to prevent.”
I used to use the finger down the grip. It just came natural. But I also sucked at putting, so I ditched it last yr. I went to an arm lock conventional, but have settled on an arm lock claw. I like both, but I just feel like I have more pace control/consistency in the short-medium putt range w/the claw. 5:23
Nice viddy Brad. I learned something so thanks. One more grip for your list would be the Corey Pavin weak left, strong right hand grip. It’s oddly effective.
Would also be interested to know your take on forward shaft lean when putting - pros and cons. I’ve always tinkered with using it but never felt like it’s made a difference. I know people who swear by doing it. Great Labs video as always!
I think most of the great putters either had their shaft pretty much perpendicular to the green or just a tiny bit of shaft lean, because they use a forward press.
imma have to try some of these grips for sure on the practice green. the one i have been using and been having decent luck with is a regular overlap but instead of just overlapping the pinky finger i do the pinky and the ring finger and also do the finger down the grip
Im a lefty, I do the finger down the grip and also choke down the grip a little. For me feels quite comfortable and yeh. Plus I play off a 15hc so can probably try something new lol.
Long putters are for back injuries.. Easier to putt standing more upright for some.. Will Zalaclitoris has moved to the long putter after back surgery.. Langer, Freddy,. Adam Scott just looks cool using it.
Can you Make a video on compressing your irons and explain how it helps you rgame and why you should do it. A lot of Channels Tell you to add shaft lean and compress but They don’t give you the reasons on why you should do it
Had to think about what grip I use...generally I just grab the club and my hands just automatically set themselves especially on the putter. I know I have done the finger down the grip one when I am having some issues, generally if I think I am twisting the club this gives me a better feel of the face and if I am twisting.
Brad, on a cross handed grip would you put emphasis mostly your left hand, now at the bottom, or still your right hand when you actually make the stroke?
I think for the pencil grip. Your right hand is basically keeping the face of the putter stable and in position. That's how it feels to me. I'm sitting here testing each grip. I use the claw but going thru all of these today, I think I'm going to give the normal grip another try.
Mine is none of those 😅😅. I'm right handed with a standard size putter and grip. Both my hands go to the bottom of the grip, left hand on first, thumb on top crossing over the grip, index finger pointing down the grip on the left side and the other 3 fingers wrapped around. My right hand goes on the same level of the grip, the pinky and ring finger overlap the 2 corresponding fingers, the right middle finger rests against (not on top of) the left middle finger, my right thumb crosses over the left diagonally and the right index points down the right side. It keeps my wrists level so I can move both hands equally, preventing 1 wrist from breaking
Recently switched to this grip from a regular finger down the shaft grip. Only been 3 rounds, but has completely worked for me. The finger down the shaft always helped my face control and cross handing it has now taken my wrists out of the swing and my speed control has been much more accurate.
I putt cross handed for that exact reason it stops me braking my wrists any tips on how to shortening my putting swing as i often over swing and push putts
I see Brad teaching extras!!!!
Automatic click !!!. One of the best new editions to GoodGood. Can't wait to see what the future has in store !!!!
Perfect timing! I’ve been struggling lately to find a perfect grip for putting, recently switched over to claw and really like it so far
same here!
BD is a great fit and a hell of a golfer. I learned a lot and will try some of these. Thanks GG and BD
Brad has my favorite swing on RUclips. Always enjoy his knowledge on the game
I use the finger down the shaft now after seeing Koepka use it. Feels much more stable for me.
Right?
Cheers Brad, great instruction. An excellent addition to GoodGood.
First grip is called the reverse overlap putting grip! However, I have started using it as my full swing 4 all clubs!

Tried the “Fleetwood” grip for a few months…it worked great for a while.

Please do a good good labs about the mechanics of your stroke. You have one of the best putting strokes I have ever seen.
It’s cool that I didn’t see the grip that I use.
Same
I use the caddie grip. Where the caddie grips the putter and I swing the caddie.
I was lookoing for that kind of info this week so great timing! Seems I would use a different grip depending on the size of the putter grip.
Great video, more Brad videos are always welcome
Love this video definitely need help with my putting

Thanks for this video, I was testing the claw but your grip style feels so much better for me!!
I do double interlock left hand low 😅 honestly the best putting ive done in my life
Thanks Brad
always enjoy tips from Brad

Based on this video alone I’ve changed mine and the different result is literally surreal. I reckon saved 4/5 putts per round.
Gret video Brad! Exactly what I was looking for! Very well explained!!

My dad taught me “Finger down the shaft” which I’ve always used and called the Pistol Grip
Had to think about what grip I use...generally I just grab the club and my hands just automatically set themselves especially on the putter. I know I have done the finger down the grip one when I am having some issues, generally if I think I am twisting the club this gives me a better feel of the face and if I am twisting.
Pointer down the grip with a loose interlock. It's the way to go for me.
next do putter heads pls :)
Could you make a video on long irons i cant figure them out and i need them for tough par 4s

Personally use the claw or the finger down the grip
Armlock lofts are typically 6-7 degrees
The Claw is goated
Holy moly. That towel drill actually clicked.

First grip is just a variation of the “reverse overlap”.
To get the ball in the hole? Buddy, I just 4 put yesterday. I'm trying to get it anywhere closet to he whole hahaha
as a guitar player I wish I had a pinky with that kind of length lol
Missed out on the quintessential hockey stick grip! 🏒
I’m gonna try a Cross handed overlapped finger down the shaft, thoughts?
Recently switched to this grip from a regular finger down the shaft grip. Only been 3 rounds, but has completely worked for me. The finger down the shaft always helped my face control and cross handing it has now taken my wrists out of the swing and my speed control has been much more accurate.
I think I'm weird but I use a normal interlocking grip but with my right index down the shaft
Doesn't Hideki use a grip that has both hands pretty much even with each other? Like all fingers interlocked.
I extend both of my pointer fingers down the ground while putting…
Finger down the grip call it "The pointer grip"
finger down the shaft grip = Fingerlock grip.
It's basically like a wristlock,, just using your finger.
I putt cross handed for that exact reason it stops me braking my wrists any tips on how to shortening my putting swing as i often over swing and push putts
Are there any illegal ways to hold a putter? Or a golf club in general?
Missed the grip I use... the 'Prayer Grip'.
Prayer grip?
No Love for the Prayer Grip? Opposing thumbs together to square the shoulders?
can we see you vs grant!!!
You missed the "Bryson" grip... LOL
What comes from his mouth is truth
I'm left handed. Instructions unclear...
Just do the opposite lol
show the actual putting stroke.... that's the key....
good timing i just barely subscribed
No prayer grip, reverse prayer, prayer pencil grip...smh
Right!? he didn’t even grip it with his teeth or the inside of his armpit! smh…
If you want to learn some lefty technique we’d be more than happy to help out 🤪🔥
I feel a few of these were made up during the filming?? 😮😂
Brad: video idea; play a round of golf where every green you wheel spin for a putting grip style
Maybe next time you should film in a really big room so the audio is terrible and it sounds like you are in a massive bathroom........ Oh, wait..
Putting grip before actual grip?!? Cmon bro!
Mini golf
Can we stop with the "for a right handed golfer" thing already. We know.
