    To everyone saying that he needs to slow down haven’t tried to fix their swing with the yips. Normally slowing down is great but with the yips, being fast and athletic is the best way to get through them. Trying to simulate on course swings while also working on technique athletically is the best way. I spent 6 years going through this and this was how I got out of it

      My yearly boys golf vacation was this last weekend and I developed a case of the “y” word. Started with shanks and transformed into dead pulls when I tried to slow things down with about a million swing thoughts racing through my brain. Using the tips in this video has already helped things after a quick hitting session. Your story and this video was very timely for myself. Hope Blake gets it all worked out! Cheers!

      Brad is definitely right. Most people will swing better at higher speeds vs. slower speeds. There's a reason why very few pros have a slow takeaway and sometimes a pause. Most pros go through their routine, and then the second they reach their trigger, it's grip it and rip it.

    • @gymbrah
      @gymbrah 2 месяца назад

      Plus if you practice slowing down to much you can literally go into limbo and have to retrain speed.

      @@gymbrah patently false, not a single ounce of truth to this. The fact is that 99% of all people swing worse when swinging faster because their tempo is trashed; there is a reason a good teacher will tell you 80% is all you ever need.

    Some people are fast twitch golfers including myself. Everything is just a little quicker. For me, it looks like I’m swinging super hard a lot when it is just normal for me. If I slow down then everything gets out of sync. Blake is the same way

      i struggle with the same my hips are really fast and i struggle to get my upper body and arms synced to it so i either get stuck trying to swing from the inside or i could be like blake swining over the top for more space at impact but then i have slices etc

      Keeping my take away extended out and aiming at the inside of the ball changed my game. I also like to feel like I’m keeping my lead shoulder pointed at my target just a fraction longer when I’m trying to start the ball right. I hit a lot of pushes though when I start right because my 25+ year old irons are about 2-3 degrees down on lie angle from where I need them.

      I'm also a fast twitch golfer. I think the biggest thing I noticed though is he's often off balance. Fast movements are fine as long as they're controlled. If you're losing balance at all in the driver swing, that ball is going to go off course. Would also note that he sometimes overextends at the top of his backswing and struggles to get it back on course (I, also, had that problem for ages largely due to fast and uncontrolled backswing).

    • @TobyGolfing
      @TobyGolfing 2 месяца назад

      Fkn thank you. I've always been a fast swinger, I'm not trying to swing hard, it's just how I swing, and every time I've had a coach tell me to slow it down my swing goes to shit.

    Brad does a great job of simplifying what most teachers complicate. Like he said, you don't want a bunch of micro-thoughts going through you're head, like dropping your arms to get shallow. The water bottle (I use a head cover) makes your body do that athletically, without even thinking about it. Good stuff, Brad, you should get back to doing these once a week. Having someone at your level & with your experience (US Open, Masters) doing the teaching, there are a whole lot of viewers that would love to hear *specifically* your advice on a number of things within the golf swing. Great lesson/video, can't wait for more!

    I was having swing issues as well and did 2 things that truly helped me. 1 was to slow my swing down once I did that I was consistently hitting ball better and had a 2yard fade(what I wanted) when I go to fast I can instantly tell and remind myself. The second thing was extension like brad was saying. It’s all muscle memory but been doing it last 3 weeks been swinging so much better. Now I can swing my driver I wasn’t using it until my last 3 weeks. Used have the ball positioned in front of my left ft to help square my face and not slice now it’s inside my left foot goes straight to small fade.. i believe slowing of the swing which Blake might want to try goes just as far and extension really changed my game

    A few suggestions for Blake and also Brad for “teaching”. Specifically for Blake’s struggles, the towel drill would be very helpful (towel under arms ). He has a lot of lift/separation. Towel drill will definitely help. For path, feet alignment stick can stay the same but the path stick should be slightly tilted/slanted to visually promote the in to out path. Start there. There are a few more but this is a good start. God speed

    Also, @Blake I had the exact same issue as you when I was your age. I closed my feet down which closed my hips off, so the only way I could hit the ball was to come over the top and down. That eventually messes with your minds eye bc it feels like your body being behind the ball generates your power. When you opened your stance up, you were cash money!

  • @MikeyB1986
    @MikeyB1986 2 месяца назад +2

    BLAKE!!! Quick/Easy fix for you!!! It's your feet, brother! I work with a ton of guys on their snap hook or massive slice...it's ALWAYS the same 2 things. Your feel make the biggest difference...You're setting up with an "open" stance (aka your left foot is dropped). SWITCH YOUR FEET! It will change your life. When your open, it soooo much more difficult to swing out to the right because you're always going to catch your right hip, so you'll default to the over the top/yank to the left. Just switch your feet and drop your RIGHT foot. Now clearing that right hip and swinging out to the right will feel WAY more natural, and its damn near impossible to yank hard to left. This will also promote more of a draw. Let me know if you try it! Promise it will work, pal. Good luck!

    • @cxrap234
      @cxrap234 2 месяца назад

      This is terrible advice. I promise you that I can hit huge snap hooks closing my stance. And didn't Brad say he was aiming right? How can his stance be open then? If he was "aiming right" with an open stance he would be lined up pretty much at the target unless his shoulders were way closed relative to his feet. Not only that, Nick Faldo has a drill to stop hooking that is the exact opposite of what you say. It's to open up the stance in an exaggerated fashion and practice the feel of holding off the face. Look at Trevino, one of the greatest ball strikers of all time - open stance, and he could work it both ways with that stance. The root cause of most hooks - even left to left ones - is hanging back on the right side and flipping, not the position of the feet. Making sure the right lower body is firing to clear the hips and transfer the weight to the left is key.

    @Blake, everything was great from Brad. The only thing he didn’t point out is where your shoulders are in the setup…….. left. It’s hard to swing to the right until that is corrected. Keep working kid!!

    Have you tried externally rotating your back just above your right hip, obviously it's more of a feeling but I feel it helps keep you on plane. I learned it's a trick to not think about your backswing and attack the ball

    Suggestion for a video. Can someone please talk about spin, and how the different lies affect the ball. Specifically flyer lies and what you see to know. Thanks, and stick with it Blake! That timing will get there.

    I’ve been struggling with this same thing. Thought I had it fixed then it happened again mid round last weekend. First 4 holes I scored par (as a 20 hcp I was so excited.) Then on hole 5 I’m hitting everything low and left. Shanking balls in the woods. Couldn’t stop it.

    I think the death of many people with their irons, is coming way to far in their back swing and then they immediately throw the club out over the top. If you stop in line with your shoulders, nice and wide, you create all the space needed to naturally shallow.
    I’ve been struggling with driver for the last 6 months. I finally realized I was coming back way inside and my ball would start dead straight for 150 then rip right and fall outta the sky at 200. Plus my alignment was way right, which made it even worse. Finally fixed it and now I have a slight fade and 280. Now I need to work on getting my speed back with my new swing

    Tons of this content would be awesome. This is heat. Especially if we can get the tracer at some point and maybe a smidge more instruction from Brad on doing these things at home.
    And kudos to Blake. Gotta be impossibly hard to golf on camera, let alone hear all the BS in the comments. Mfs need to realize any GG player would smoke you 1:1 and complaining about handicaps and shit is stupid. Who cares. They make dope content and do it consistently. Just appreciate it and take videos like this to realize their earnestness. Keyboard warriors be doing the most.

      You sure about that lil pup? Steve, Matt and Blake would struggle to beat a 10 hcp with the way they are playing rn. it's their job lmao, Matt n Steve been full time youtube golfers for atleast 4-5 years. Bring a normal 15hcp golfer and let him work on his game full time for a year and he'd smoke all 3 in a 1v3 scramble.

    Brad you should have Blake do the feet together drill. It's hard to not rotate your hips when your feet are together. if the arms are too fast you'll fall over

    The “athletic” fix resonates. Had a lesson and instructor tried to change so many things, I left the lesson unable to hit the ball. For weeks. It was awful.

  • @robbb1371

    Blake if you see this. I had this same issue. You are turning your shoulders more than rotating properly in the backswing. Causing you to be in a poor position and struggling to shallow.
    Feel like your NOT turning your shoulder and your just trying to turn to the right with your arms in front of you and feel like your facing your back to the target. This should give you a ton more time and room to drop the club.
    People that turn shoulders too much get inside and stuck.
    When Brad is showing you how to be wide at 18min in, notice your rotation looks very different than your swing.

    I have a warm up drill before playing, that helped me to stop casting.
    Swing the driver, slowly at first, ten to fifteen times, with the right hand, and watch the path of the club head, and slowly increase the speed.
    Now, swing the driver, same way, with left hand only.
    And finally, swing the club ten to fifteen more times, with both hands.
    Not only does it get you to see and feel the path the club should be taking,
    It warms you up before your first tee shot.
    Tip: when you get to the top, smooth and graceful, like a ballerina.
    Don't snap at the top your swing, and go into " kill it" mode.
    Mr Short Hitter has a great swing
    Smooth and easy, all the way through, and accelerate.
    Not snap.
    Smooth equals control
    Snap, no control?
    The woods are full of long hitters?

    Brad all he's gotta do is start his down swing tucking his right elbow into his side. That's it. Line him up and tell him the start of his down swings first move is pull right elbow into his side and that's it. He will shallow out. I had to do that myself and my iron striking got 10x better cause I chicken wing over the top with em
