      @@ortallevi7753 Wow that's so exciting! I honestly don't have amazing stats, I got 1390 on the SAT and had a 3.8 gpa, 4.7 weighted. But I did have a bunch of volunteer experience in healthcare and I have a CNA certification, which I think helped me out a lot. I wish you the best of luck!

      The acceptance rate for UCLA Nursing is obviously very low; Miki quoted 5% from the transfer cohort. But despite the really low rate, I'm pretty sure nursing admissions goes more holistically than by stats. They're probably looking for bedside manner and other things besides gpa and test scores. I don't know if Miki mentioned it, but I believe they send out a supplemental essay on why you'd be a good nurse, and I"m sure that's its extremely weighted.

  • @lamingtongirl123
    @lamingtongirl123 6 лет назад +169

    I don’t think people are aware how prestigious and unique UCLA’s nursing program is. I believe it is a class of 20 students for the program and they usually do not take transfers from local colleges. On top of your nursing courses don’t you take pre med classes as well? I think that’s great because it means you could always go back to med school or PA school if nursing isn’t what you want to be forever. The great thing I hear about it is how the clinical rotations are being that there are great hospitals and facilities nearby the college.

    • @michaelnguyen3159
      @michaelnguyen3159 4 года назад +6

      I dont think nursing or pre med is any easier. In fact, I believe that those two paths are just as hard as going into nursing. Medical school has a low percentage to get into with a 4.0 gpa. Plus, some majors tend to not get accepted readily like bio majors. In general, while I do think the nursing program is hard to get into, getting into medical school at UCLA or a PA school is highly difficult and should not be merely a second choice for an easier perception. But you are right. My sister got chosen from a cal state uni for nursing from 2800 applicants. They accepted only 80? It’s just different and clinical rotatioms could be anywhere no? In my rad program, I saw peers doing clinicals in a city an hour or more away.

    • @robjohnston366
      @robjohnston366 3 года назад +2

      @@michaelnguyen3159 Obviously, majoring in Biochemistry, Chemistry, Bioengineering, Microbiology with premed would be tougher and more competitive than nursing. Nursing majors don't have to worry about getting into the school; they're already in. All the others are trying to maintain a 3.5 or above to get into med school (or dental, pharm school, etc.).
      UCLA premeds are really competitive and they probably maintain on average about a 3.5 gpa or maybe a little higher, because it doesn't do any good to stay in the life sciences and maintain a 3.1 in preparing for a doctorate health program. Additionally, the material is a lot tougher because a lot of nursing classes are probably just clinical protocol, whereas majoring in Biochem, MIMG, MCDB at UCLA involves a lot of abstract material.

I know becoming CNA is a great way to build up my resume but should I look into pharmacy techs or phlebotomists? I know those two are less nursing-related so should I look into those too? Also, I looked up volunteering opportunities near me but all of them require some sort of nursing school experience which I don't have so how should I go about finding volunteering opportunities at a hospital?

      for transfer students, it approximately takes them 2 years to finish all prereqs. and there do have the nursing schools with 3 years program or 4 years program. it just depends on what school you are applying to. so basically it would take 5 or 6 years, or even more

    Honesty it's so interesting to see how much you have to do to get into Nursing school in the States, over here in Canada (specifically Ontario I dont know too much about the other provinces) it's a grade only program. So as long as your overall average of your 4 prerequisites (English, math, chem and bio) + your top 2 electives is a competitive average you'll be fine. But it's *super* competitive, I have a 89-90% average and I'm worried if I'll get in or not 😅

      I wonder something about America education system because I am not sure how much I clearly understand about it. As you know, your country has the education system which students able to earn the credit in the fundamental subjects at a community college and then they able to transfer their credit into the bachelor degree at the university but in the case of nursing program (I would like to mention it as an example), the community college offer the Associate program of nursing, as I know all students who want to get into the program, they need to study the prerequisite courses at the community college first and then they able to apply to the program ....okay now we come to the big point I wonder, the question is ... after they finish the prerequisite courses, they will have 2 ways for that right? First one, they can apply to the ADN program at the community college and second one, they can apply to any university for becoming to the transfer student right? That means they able to do the same way like other major right? No need to apply the ADN program and complete it first for going to the BSN program.
      Sorry for my too long text. Thank you for your info in advance Miki ^^
