I definitely got vulnerable in this video... Should I make more content like this?🤔 Let me know!💖 (ALSO I'm thinking about making another video like this highlighting why it's so hard to break into the film & television industry. Would you be interested?)
One of the worst feelings as an actor is when you KNOW you killed the audition but don’t get that call back… you really have to be strong and keep pushing
Happened to me once and never again, I told myself that day that” as soon as I complete my audition , I just leave it in the room “ if I dwell or dig out why I didn’t get a callback I’d just be torturing myself.
Just like with most things or any potential work opportunity, it’s so hard to know to a 100 % what they’re looking for. Then also add how others before and after you have done, and how that’s being viewed by the ones making the decisions. Sometimes the one in the room think you check off all the boxes, but someone higher up decides all of the sudden things should go in another direction, which automatically throws you out of the competition for the spot. Sometimes doing your best and being amazing isn’t doing anything at all (in terms of landing the job/getting accepted). I’m not at all within said industry mentioned, but I study law at uni. and graduated with top grades from high school (no more points to be given because I had reached the end of it). I applied and when I got back the rejection information from the university, I felt gutted and didn’t understand what had happened (lol, I didn’t even apply for more than one specific university, THAT’s how certan I was of getting accepted😂). In my naive mind you got the highest grade and your work was done, I had been so focused on me and what I had done that I forgot to consider that literally thousands of other people had applied as well for the law studies, and only 135 people were accepted. I’m in now and my education plan is back on track, but it’s a good reminder of the reality that not everything is one’s own hands and how we look at things ourselves might not at all be hos others view it, and a big portion is pure dumb luck. My friend is a doctor now and she applied for medical school FIVE times, and her mom applied 10 times. Literally being the best doesn’t always cut it, because many people are the best too (yes, I know the grammar is off, but visually it becomes more clear that way). My point is basically, it’s a good thing to remember when you fall off and beat yourself up, to have in mind that doing your best is not always enough when it’s in the hands of others if you will get approved. It helps with the motivation to keep going to remember that❤
I think some of the most frustrating things about the industry is how you're told you can't book roles because you don't have enough experience, but then through not booking those same roles you're still not gaining any experience. It just feels like sometimes the industry just keeps you stuck in an inescapable position which is so hard to break out of. I think other annoying experiences similar to this, would be when a casting call specifically says they are looking for someone who is relatively new to the industry, so you think you may have a chance, but then you read the cast announcement and the role you auditioned for is being played by an actor who isn't new to the industry at all. Even though you know it's not their fault, you can't help but feel annoyed, because it just feels like nothing is working out.
That and the fact that the industry's dead and slowly deteriorating into a psychotic mess. They keep creating so many mediocrities that nobody really cares about, because they're really made as just a self-insert wank-fest ran by their own agenda that nobody asked for, because what audiences really want is actual entertainment. Yet, when someone does created something genuinely exceptional, it's at the brink of which studios, streaming services, and so much more are losing their audience, which even some who do watch begin wondering, "Why is a show/movie like this being wasted on a platform like this. This deserves way better.".
No I felt this. I have been trying for YEARS, it’s only by God I have started getting more opportunities this yr but still it’s not a lot🥺 but I pray I do get more some more.
@@kyleesmith3899 Sorry about that./: From my research, going to shoots and learning a new skill like directing, producing, how the filming works might be the best way to get to know these people. Going to as many film sets as you can. Getting your name out there as well as learning new skills. This will make your resume even better. Acting rolls will come in because you will get to know these people just because you've worked with them on set. They might just cast you. Idk just from my research.. and I'm not an actor. Just always been interested in it.
Thank you. I’m gonna be making acting related videos. From someone who is going back into acting from not acting into acting. To see the reality of acting and going from 0 to somewhere I feel happy.
I always tell people that acting can very much be a blue collar job. There will never be a moment where you won’t be searching for the next job (unless you land a regular tv gig). That’s why I also say to pursue it if you love the craft; not if you love fame.
I love how honest this is. As a fellow actor and indie filmmaker, it's really hard and you just have to keep going and push through the insecurity & doubt. Thanks Makayla.
I totally relate to this! Sometimes I dont even like to tell people when I book so called 'small roles" because people outside the industry dont understand that not everyone is going to immediately book a Blockbuster film and inadvertently diminish your accomplishments by saying things like "oh you only had one line"
Makayla your content is always great but this video was truly exceptional! Thanks for being vulnerable and sharing the truth about the industry. I was already an adult (26) when I first started so I didn't go through some of the things you did. I can't imagine how difficult it must have been to hear your friends say "you only had two lines" at such a young age. Honestly, I still find it hard to respond when a family member asks "why haven't we seen you on tv in a while?" 🤣🙄. Keep up the great work! Hope to see you on set one day! *red carpet*
This is the thing they don't teach you in Acting school. Me and some friends talk about this alot! Stay strong every one that is still pushing, it's not easy to keep going bit we can do this. 💯❤
They're not meant to. In acting school you learn how to act. How to do life you learn through life. They can't teach you and thus only give advice. It's our job to have thick skin when it comes to the business and soft skin when it comes to 'doing the work' and 'working'
I'm actor that started in my mid 30's and I'm coming upon my 40th birthday and this resonated so much with me. People always say start young, but it's hard to get a foot in at any age. First, I couldn't find an agent. Then when I found one, I still couldn't book even though I was getting more auditions and better auditions. I'm still struggling. And what's worse is that I'm not even a union actor yet. It sucks. But I've learned to fill my free time with hobbies that I enjoy and stop this 24/7 acting crunch. It seems like the less I care the more things happen for me which is weird. LOL!
It’s the law of attraction the more you want something the more you push it away. Like a loved one when you smother them and suffocate to death you push them away instead of closer to you. So just enjoy it and know your time will come…
I’m really grateful that you do this content Makayla! Being an actor is really competitive and the fact that you are willing to share us all the amazing tips and talk about acting so openly is really amazing! TYSM for keeping things real✨💕
Hey girl I recently got signed with an agency, was in a commercial and is currently a SA in a Netflix series however, I’m so grateful for all ur videos and especially this one. People are so blinded by the glitz and glam (myself included) so they actually don’t see the evil and darkness within Hollywood.😔💔 Anyway I hope everyone reading this is successful in the coming future 💕💕
@@juanpenajimenez7274 heyyy sorry for the late reply. I’m situated in London I started out using an extras agency. Lemme know if I still want to know it
as a filmmaker with a lot of actor friends, i see this all the time. these are the people i see crying the most and it breaks my heart how hard it is for some of them. what i keep telling them and what i think ultimately can keep people going is having a true passion for the art. if you've gotten into acting because it seems like an easy job or because you wanna make money quick you're in for a rude awakening, especially nowadays with the general diminishment of the art because of streaming services. as someone who knows the flip side i can confirm that it really isn't about you most of the time. it's about catering to a very specific vision that you either fit into or don't. feeling fulfilled in a job like this really ultimately boils down to how much fire you have within you for the craft. and most importantly, this is true of any job. especially in the beginning. there is constant rejection and hard work, bad days, ungratefulness, diminishing of value, but as long as you want it bad enough it never feels like wasted effort. you just have to keep your eyes fixed on why you're doing it.
Being an actor is so difficult especially when you live in a small country that doesn't have as many opportunities. I go to the theater and I'm currently looking for a good agency, but it's so hard. But still... I loved the video, you're an inspiring person and you've already taught me so much! love u
I also live in the small country and I wish we had theatre or drama, I have zero opportunities and I don't know what to do 😞 I'm trying to convince my mum to let me move with my aunt so I can do theatre and drama but she says the film industry isn't a real job???
I wanted to come hug when you started crying , you're so blessed, you've been helping a lot of aspiring actors all over the world ,you're really awesome...you're actually doing your best.. love you so much Makayla ❤️
Hey Makayla, I haven't started my acting journey yet. There are some roadblocks like telling my parents, losing weight, saving money for classes. So I feel a bit behind and guilty too. Thanks for being so truthful. The video helped with some of the shitty feeling I have been feeling.
Hi, I have roadblocks too such as my parents, not having classes, being a country kid and feeling I don't have a chance. I hope you can start your journey soon and pursue your passion!!
Thank you for addressing this! As it can be amazing being an actor there are many untold truths and I’m glad to see someone talking about it! You’re the best acting youtuber ever🫶🏼
You are such a helpful youtube thanks for this video, and wanted to ask, is it worth investing 100 dollars a year into casting websites like backstage as a 12 year old kid with no experience
being a actor isn’t just sunshines & rainbows, but DONT EVER give up. because if you're passionate about something and you work hard and most importantly, you believe that you can do it, you can achieve it.
studying acting atm. thank you for reigniting my love for the industry. i was truly beginning to lose passion because it's so damn hard to make it anywhere! thank you for highlighting that in this video makayla, you truly are an angel
@@MakaylaLysiak makayla I dream of acting with you like I imagine us acting like sisters but I’m so scared of rejection but when I hear u talk abt rejection u rlly make me wanna be strong and work harder I’m 11 years old and and when I heard u say it doesn’t matter how many lines u have I rlly felt happy cuz ppl say ur not famous or ur not good enough and idk I’m just trying to keep going I’ve never had a acting job but I’ve been in dance for some months and as a younger kid I did a little photo shoot but u know I love acting it’s been my dream I used to think oh that looks easy but when I rlly see pain in actors and I rlly feel there pain. My dream is to act with u in a drama series on Netflix so yea! And my uncle says u would be a rlly good actress that rlly makes me feel happy I wanna start doing acting class now then start acting at 12 or 13
If you want to be an actor start with theater as that is where you can learn the trade. Going to auditions all the time and expecting to be noticed by casting is not the way to go. The industry is bursting at the seams with wannabes and trying to get noticed is harder than winning the lottery. Finding small independent productions is were you will find the most work and best chances.
I’m an actor in New York and this PERFECTLY sums up so much of what I’ve been through. To be fair, I really only started as a professional actor when I was already in my 20s and have been pursuing it for about 5 years now. But I feel like the life has put about 20 years on my soul already. In both a good and a bad way. I love that being an actor and living the life of an actor has challenged me and motivated me to look at life differently. Allowed me to see how fragile and beautiful life is and how it should be celebrated for all of its ugliness. And how I’m then able to put that into my work. But every so often, I can’t help but compare my life to those of people around me both in the industry and out. And I know I shouldn’t do that. It’s not fair to them and it’s not fair to myself. Everyone at the end of the day is on their own path and we’re all works in progress, but it can be a lot when the path to what you want is so long and meandering and you start to question if you’re following it “the right way” or if you should have just settled for that stable life like your family wanted. So I’m so very thankful to you for your video. It means the world that there is a whole tribe of people that’s millions of people strong but still feels intimate, who have been through the same thing.
RED CARPET!!! Incredible video Makayla! This industry is hard but you just gotta remember why you love it and keep trudging on. Us actors sometimes forget that LIFE literally is a MOVIE, and the hardships and tribulations are what makes the successes worth it! Wishing you all much success!!!
10:10 “there’s just things you don’t understand but you will later on” It’s so good to hear this especially from someone so young. There so much I want clarity on both personally and in my acting career right now. I needed this message!
I know it’s difficult but I’ve been wanting to act since forever and I will do everything in my power to try and make it before I die. Thanks for the reminder to keep working hard tho Makayla, I appreciate it!
I’m an artist, whether it’s painting, drawing, or taking + editing photos, I’m really hard on myself with my work. Like I can’t stop comparing my work to others. I know I shouldn’t be thinking like that, but it’s soo hard when you’re in college majoring in visual arts and design and you get graded SOLELY on how well your art looks. I have a friend who’s super talented and gets all A’s and one of my professors let them move onto the next assignment but when they took one look at my work, they said I had to redo it, and I was so upset about it. I guess it wasn’t “detailed” enough I would think. Yeah it’s just really hard when you get graded on how professional and advanced your art looks.
the world has never been fair. here in my country, money is everything. no matter how smart how capable you are, if youre against those who got money, they can bribe any departments here including the gov :0
I’ve never respected someone so much upon first viewing. I’m a life/mindset/performance coach, and you’re just speaking pure spiritual truths. Bless you. Rooting for you.
I’m a singer-songwriter and this still really resonated with me. I’m so hard on myself and often question my talent, but then I remember that I love it so much and all my efforts will soon be worth it. Loved this video! ❤️❤️
Ok but like I love how real and raw you are, you really show what acting is actually like, and i appreciate that so much. You are such an inspiration for me 💗
I relate so much to what is being said in this video! What you’re doing with this channel is so inspirational. Rarely do people ever show the other side to what the entertainment industry looks like.
You hit the nail on the head. It gets really emotionally challenging because you put your all in auditions and submit it and you never hear back. You don’t know if they watch it or not.. it’s really tough. Before the pandemic I was gaining some success and then boom.. it stopped and I haven’t worked in 3 years. Just 3 years of rejections and it’s tough… but you’re right… I kept busy with other creative things. I’ve written a play, I wrote and released an album. I started a RUclips channel.. that’s what we gotta do to stay sane.
As an aspiring actor I’m glad you’re doing this this has been my dream since middle school and I’m educating myself on the reality of acting in Hollywood 💯❤️🔥🐐
Does nobody understand how amazing this person is? You are the positive part of me and thank you for all your positive, beneficial videos. Don't feel insecure because we are all cheering for you and we got your back. Thank you, Makayla...
I remember last semester in drama class I was alone in a classroom practicing my lines and I had a mental breakdown and told myself I couldn’t be an actress if I can’t even read memorise a script in highschool. Last semester was not my semester. Year 11 is hard. I definitely want to do something in the entertainment industry as well but probably not full time. I struggle a lot with confidence as well but getting better. Thanks for all the tips and stuff it’ll help a lot of people
also you are single handedly opening the door that will transform the culture amongst actors today. abundance mindset. we want the same jobs, but we don’t have to allow the industry to stir hate amongst us. by sharing your content openly and freely, you’re basically saying, “i love you and we’re all in this together. i want you to succeed as much as i want to succeed.” that’s HUGE. and extremely powerful. i hope we can all adopt this behavior.
Ahhhh can we be friends. This is exactly the journey, the feelings, struggles, disappointment and joy that I feel whenever I have to do an audition. I literally have days that I can't put out any self-tape anymore. I have done tons. I have been doing this since I was 19 years old, I'm 42 years now. My biggest passion was to get or win a greencard and go on auditions in LA. I always got so much energy when I was in LA, going to Acting classes. I tried the greencard lottery for 9 years but it not yet happend. I live in The Netherlands, I have booked some commercials here, but they barely ask me for auditions for films or movies. They only work with big names here, so if you don't have a name you don't even get inside the room for a movie or film audition. They only ask me for commercial auditions. I have a side job and give acting classes to youth in school, but my heart wants to be acting full time and I am missing LA everyday❤ Thank you so much for sharing the truth and encouraging us. ❤🙏🏾
as a film/tv student this really helped it does get very hard but its just nice hearing someone who gets it talk about how they pull through the tough times
I felt this video so much. I've been busting my butt trying to get the right representation for me. And after like 2 years, I've FINALLY found a manager and agents that I truly connect with and feel really good about. I just signed with CESD and am so excited to start putting in more work, but also a little nervous about the workload along with college apps and school. Congrats on all of your achievements and I hope you book your next audition!!
I’ve always wanted to be an actor, but I had so much discouragement bc people told me it wasn’t a real job and that it’s too hard. I gave up on it until I join my high school theatre club and I realized I could be an actor again but I wanted to take another step further. So I decided to look into auditions for movies but it’s so hard to find auditions. When I finally found backstage thanks to your TikTok you made I was happy. A weight off my shoulder but when I clicked on it I realized there’s much I don’t know about the acting world. I didn’t know what a resume was or a professional photo shoot was or union or nonunion was. I eventually learned because you helped me learn but then when I went to see a role I was interested I was confused because I didn’t know what they wanted me to self record myself doing. Like do we pick any monologue and record ourselves and sent it off. I feel like the acting world doesn’t provide enough information for beginner actors and actresses.
I’ve read acting books and watched so many pseudo-inspirational videos from academia trying to sell their classes. I’m staying in sick from work today at my dead end job and it’s crazy that YOUR real ass perspective and tell-all of the industry is actually what inspired me to try again. Your purpose is definitely to create but it’s also to inform and inspire and I think that’s beautiful. I’m some random girl from NJ but I want to try again because of you because you make me feel less alone. Thank you for your videos and I hope you keep making content. And even more so, I hope I bump into you one day. Thank you for sharing your vulnerability in this video.
I'm so happy that you made this. I've been following your acting videos since 2021. Because of hollywood I have fallen out of love with the craft that I dreamed about since I was 10. I spent all of the my savings on moving to become an actor. acting school, monthly website fees, headshots, equipment and my favorite GAS. I'm happy that I got the chance to see what it was like otherwise I would've thought about the what-ifs. Hollywood is NEPOTISM, it's about who you know not what you know. When I found out that the industry was accepting tiktokers into sagaftra that was a total slap in the face for people that have talent vs whose hot and whose popular imop. 🤷🏿♀️ I decided to do theater in my hometown and write my own monologues.
You’re vulnerability is so inspiring! I’ve been watching your channel for 2 years now so proud of how far you’ve gotten. You really inspire me so much to keep pursuing this career in film!
This really helped me. I have wanted to be an actress for FOREVER and I have tried SO HARD and nothing good has come of it. I really want to be that 10 percent of people who are stars, but sometimes I just feel like it's totally impossible. Thanks Makayla this helped!
As an actor in Latin America, it has been a dream for years to make it into Hollywood. I always struggle to get roles in my native country, and since there's no industry here, it may be considered "meaningless" but I love it. Congrats on what you've accomplished, someday I'll have a similar day to day life.
This is EXACTLY the sort of thing I’ve been writing about. Where I’m from, there isn’t a lot of big acting opportunities, so when one comes in, it’s incredibly exciting. There is a community theater in my town, but they mostly audition 18+. I’m not 18. I participate in school theater, but that will only last so long before I have to go out into the real world. Thankfully, I’ve been diversifying my artistic abilities and write and perform standup comedy, so it’s not all doom and gloom.
Go and start your own theater group if you are struggling in your own town. There is bound to be others in a similar position in your locality. I think most people should give it a go if they have a desire for it even if they do not make it. People need to separate out in themselve do they like the idea of stardom or do they want to perfect the craft of acting.
im only in 8th grade, but me and my best friend have both wanted to become actors for as long as we could remember, and are starting to be serious about it. Ive joined the drama club and audition for the plays and musicals at my school for practice, and although I didn't get into the plays, I decided im going to keep auditioning until I get it, instead of quitting. Me and my friend are trying to find an acting class in the area so we can get some practice together. Im super exited for the journey ahead and your videos are really helping me with motivation, thank you so much 🫶
I have been acting since I was eight but started taking it seriously this summer and got my first two jobs thanks to your tips but I also got rejected more than 50 times
Hi Makayla! i'm a musician and i'm going through the same struggles actors have to deal with but just in music industry (rejections from record labels, from bigger artists etc) but i have a faith in me and enjoying the journey because it is very important to see the slightest progress which means one doesn't get stuck but gets better at craft and improves the approach to handling handicaps and hampers. Currently i'm trying to make the biggest discomfort by moving to the USA, LA...To live a life where I could chase my dreams freely without being japardized by authorities/government forces/police etc is the goal i'm coming to. Have a wonderful day! and I hope to bump into you someday in a sunny LA :)
I feel like actor or not most people can relate to this. Yes I know the video’s main focus was on actors or to show people that being an actor isn’t as glamorous as most believe, but I feel like this video was just so relatable. I may be wrong though maybe it’s just me 🫢. Keep up the great content Makayla you really help me achieve my goals with you spectacular videos! Red❤️Carpet❤️
I’m really grateful for the fact that makayla has been through so much and she still persists to help US. Sometimes, it just seems like she’s doing it all for us which is so selfless and caring. Love u makayla, Keep on aspiring for your goals!!! 💖💖💖
Thanks Makayla for giving us an insight to what it takes to be an actor. Its player vs player in this industry and quite hard when living in Africa as I face a lot of hardships...I mean I can't be a Hollywood actor if I'm not in Hollywood, but you one of those people who save lives without knowing it.... continue pressing hard with passion and with purpose...Thank you🧘♂️✌️
Thank you for being so open and sharing your experience. I appreciate this insight and will continue to pursue my dream of becoming an actor. It’s scary because I’ve never really put myself out there like that yet. Keep going, Makayla. I’m cheering you on!
Me wanting to be a actor looking at your videos 24/7 I definitely want to know more. It’s more than what we think and more experiences than we think and more steps, time and passion. It’s hard, But we have to try our best and never give up. Xoxo.
Makayla, thank you for being so vulnerable in this video. You're sharing real emotions & experiences with us. The vast majority of ppl's stories are not stories of success, fame, and glamour. It is nice to see someone being real on youtube instead of putting on a fake positive persona about everything. This video helped me a lot.
Thank you for this. As someone generally in the musical theatre field (sometimes I jump in to the tv world but not often lol), a lot of these thoughts and feelings resonate. Your videos have been nothing but helpful and inspiring. We are all good enough, even when it can be hard to see sometimes. Just keep swimming :)
Makayla, thank you thank you so much for this encouraging video. I moved to LA about a year ago, had a great first start and booked a few gigs, but these last months have been very slow. Although I knew I would have seasons of slow, this one really got to me. Thank you for helping me feel not alone 💕 Wish you so much happiness and success! Red Carpet!!
Hey Makayla. I love hearing about your story and the advice you give. Over the first 2 years of Covid I randomly found a love for acting but after starting High School and depression and identity crisis kicked in, I stopped doing skits which I loved doing ALL the time. I know I have a gift for acting as people tell me but I really don't know and to be honest this video is making me want to try acting again. So thank you Makayla and I hope to see you on more films💖💖
Getting your education at school is your primary concern as it is a one time deal and you will never get the chance again. Most movie stars are not real actors they are movie stars. Real acting is about theater so if you want to learn how to be an actor that is where you focus. Start reading books especially the classics and look up some plays and study them as well. You can be an accountant, nurse, carpenter or anything else and still be an actor.
this is so raw and emotional. I love it. as an actor all the classes and money, it really adds up. But It seems to me that hollywood is moving to tik tok to cast talent. since it’s such a huge platform people are using it to an advantage which I think is smart. But every now and then you get those people who are one in a million and get cast with zero prior experience (I’m thinking of Rachel Zegler) in a huge blockbuster film and that sets their whole life up. it’s not a bad thing, but it proves that anything can happen and sometimes people just get really lucky.
Red carpet! ♡ Thank you so much for helping us all out on our acting journeys and being so vulnerable and open about your own. I get so excited every time you post a new video and I am never disappointed. I can't describe how much you've helped me and I am so so grateful for you and your channel. Thank you Makayla! We love you ♡♡♡
This was such an inspiring video and so important! Being in the industry is very tough. I'm a filmmaker and one day I'd like to get back into acting but I'm still super shy in front of other people. I have many actor friends though and I will definitely send them this video. Thank you so much Makayla you are amazing!
I would love to have you make more videos like this! I'm 13 and I'm just about to start acting in the fall I'm doing classes and plays so after that it is getting a manager and start booking auditions! You have helped me so much and I love how you give God the credit I know I wouldn't be this far! Thank you, Makayla, for all the help! 🥰❤
Never seen someone be so authentic and real. And really breaking down how it is like to be an actor. Using her time and effort to give us great content, can really relate to this. Thank you so much Makayla...
I know how hard it is going to be, I know I will face a lot of rejections, I know I will have no advantage, I know I am dreaming is for something over my capacity, I know I have to sacrifice so much things, I know I will face hate.. BUT I WILL DO IT NO MATTER WHAT all the love and the fun behind acting is going to make me forget of all the hardships i had in my life : )
Red Carpet!!!!!! Acting is literally my passion! I do understand the rejection part, though. I recently auditioned for a play, and I didn't get cast. I was heart broken, but I know there are more opportunities out there!
Glad to see a new video from you. I'm not an actor nor do I wanna become one, but I really like your content.👍🏼Thanks for doing this. I'm sure you're helping a lot of people with your experiences, understanding and knowledge. ''Red Carpet''👀🤫
thank you SO SO much for touching on this. Yes it isn’t “all bad” but this is ourselves getting rejected, this is our vulnerability getting shut down, and more. We have to have thick skin because have to have it. The emotion repercussions do come around though! Right now, I just graduated with my BA in Theater and now I’m turning to film. It’s expanding my horizons in terms of performance and it makes me so excited.
It’s very early in my acting journey… always wanted to do it but was too shy… Fast forward to my last year of high school, I was thrown into a small production of The Little Mermaid and feel in love with the adrenaline and the whole experience… currently studying my second year of Acting as well as started my first year of Filmmaking… I auditioned for a role in a big student film but unfortunately the project was put on hold until further notice due to unforeseen circumstances… I currently don’t have an agent but really want one. Part of me is dreading getting an agent and starting to work because of fear of rejection, or accidentally just signing to a sketchy agency, or worst, “signing my sole away” I’m also hesitant due to being a white english speaking male living in South Africa where most acting jobs seem to be for the black Zulu or white Afrikaans speaking community.. which I fine don’t get me wrong but can get frustrating. I just really need to get myself out there but struggle to take the leap. But I pray to God I’ll get there soon… and who knows… we could one day be co-stars 😉 😂
Thank you Makayla for making this video! It is so frustrating when you’ve been training & know your potential, but can’t seem to get past a certain level. Just know everyone that the people who “make it” do so because they never gave up! If you give up now then you’ll never reach your highest goals that I KNOW you’re capable of!❤️
I am so grateful that you made a video on this I think it will relate to so many people including myself who watch your videos and have been trying to get into acting. for me I have an agent and I have gotten no auditions for the 6 months that I have had this agent but I start to understand that that is just the nature of it.
After wanting to become an actor, it really made me pay attention to and appreciate the side characters, knowing how hard it is to even get that small of a role. I now find myself memorizing those characters and actors to cheer them on as they continue :)
This channel has helped me so much with putting my dream into perspective and asking myself if this is what I really want, if I want it bad enough. I’m very grateful that Makayla shows us what goes on behind the scenes.
Hello Makayla!! I'm from Argentina and I wanted to thank you for all your videos, they help me a lot❤️ Sometimes it's difficult to be in Argentina, so far from Hollywood and opportunities, but I know that it can happen and I am not gonna to give up. Thanks for the motivation!
I am so glad that you addressed this to us🥺🥰 I have been really struggling with my mental heath lately first of all. And acting is such a hard industry. There’s so much uncertainty and pressure. And I have always wanted to be an actor. I am so glad you shared with us the struggles. I just can’t even express how thankful I am for you and all of the videos that you make. You make such an impact on people and I believe we can get through all of the messes that we are in
Most people should be trying to get into theater acting and performance as they will have a better opportunity of success in that field and can find out if they are good enough to compete with the best. Learning to project the voice to a room or how to focus on presenting to the audience is something that is hard to achieve in acting workshops. Also incorporating the study of plays and literature would also help to enrich aspiring actors and actresses. .
Thank you so much for this video, it really meant a lot to me. I wish the media went over this more since some people sometimes don't see how hard being an actor truly can be. Thank you Makayla!!💕 oh also RED CARPET!
This is so true! I remember working at a talent agency in LA back in 2016-17ish and I remember seeing kids and teens come in for auditions and they would submit their self-tapes and it would be crushing for them if they didn't get the role. Acting is definitely one of those art forms that test your mental toughness. Thank you for sharing your experiences.
thank you so much, ive been wanting to be a actor since I was around 5 and this has helped me I remember when I was 8 I did my first audition for Disney worked so hard and didn’t get anything. I was proud of myself, your videos have helped me so much with studying acting, etc. Congratulations on going to college the future has a lot of good in store for your acting career and i can’t wait to follow along with this college journey 💖
I relate so much to this I have been acting for a while and it has been very stressfull Something that makes it even more stressful is making sure my BFF gets a role too because we started acting together and if she does not get a role in the movie and I do I just don't do it.
the fact that you help people like us trying to become actors when you are too is so kind so thankyou literally your videos have helped me so much to understand more and I'm excited to pursue acting in the future
red carpet🤫… thank you so much makayla for helping us actors achieve our goals and dreams while still living our life and being in the moment! I love you and your work! Thank you❣️
Thank you for this video makayla I am an actor too it’s really hard to keep going but I still do it because I love acting ever since I was 6 or 7 years old. So this video really means a lot to me I actually booked an extra job on Chicago PD for season 7 I was so happy to be on an actual set and get that experience. I enjoy watching the actor round table talks as well and the actor on actors interviews because I learn so much from them
In person auditions are a thing of the past even before the pandemic. All the films and TV shows I ever booked were from in person auditions. Self taping sucks. I decided to just create my own projects and switched to working full time as part of the shooting crew. I'm on film and TV sets every day and act when I want too. 90% of all SAG actors only book three gigs a year. Mostly day player parts. I've auditioned hundreds of times for really amazing projects and it can burn you out. Great video. Thanks for sharing. I might have to do one like this myself on my channel. Cheers and break a leg!
You are not only helping people in this industry, but others as well. I am an aspiring singer, along with my twin sister, and we struggle with the mentality of "I just need to keep trying". I've been watching you for years, and you have shown me that rejection is a part of acting, dancing, singing and SO much more. You're one of the very few people who post the raw side to the industry and also, you actually want to HELP people reach their dreams. Whenever I am in a slump, I come to your videos. Acting is a big dream of mine, too, but singing is something that nags at me day and night. I hope to make a start on my career this year, as I am entering high school. God knows what He's doing, and I wish nothing but the best for you. 💜
I’m really glad you make these videos! As someone who’s dream was to become an actress, you really helped me learn what it’s like and get a little look into the life of one. Thank you so much for these videos!
Hi Makayla. My dream has always been to become an actor and you videos really help on learning how! So I would just like to thank you for making these videos and helping people pursue their dreams. Also red carpet :)
hey makayla, i wanna become a professional film/tv actor and this has really helped me because i was one of those people who thought it was glamorous and never had bad days. you really helped because i had auditions but never got a call back which hurt me but i tried again! i thank you so much 😊!
I just want to say that I know how strong all of you guys and girls who are going out everyday to try to make it. It truly is amazing that you can get back up and keep going with such passion. Keep trying and follow your heart.
Sometimes watch your videos to help my mental health! I was having a complete breakdown before watching this video and I thought to come to your page. It really helped hearing your experience, knowing that you want to hear from us, and the words of wisdom you had to share. (Also the organization of this video is satisfying, i could even say soothing lol) . Thanks so much
I mean acting for me has been a good journey and I am lucky to have been called for a few productions even though I couldn't attend to them because of my exams but that really pushed me into believing in myself and knowing that I can do it , all I can say is that I hope you just keeping passion and commitment to the thing you love but your video did a really good narration on the life of an actor 💯
As somebody who does theater this is very true. I mainly do juniors theater that isn’t popular and never book a role that it’s big that people that aren’t family really come see. With everything I’ve been through I booked my dream role as gaston in a beauty and the beast musical!
Hi Makayla! I also want to be an actor , I am from Greece , I am 17 years old and its really hard to book roles for projects in the USA . I also don't have an agent so that makes it even more harder . My only acting opportunities were some theatre plays I did in primary and elementary school , and some Fandubs (voice acting) , both things were amateur works with none profit obviously , I do it because its the closest thing to acting that I can do now . I'm really looking forward to go to university (in a bigger city cause I live in a small town right now) and hopefully start my professional acting career , and who knows , I might one day end up in Hollywood 🤣 it's my dream since I was very young , and I believe that someday I will make it , I don't know how or when , but I will! And I hope that every young actor , director , screenwriter etc. will make it one day too! We are all in this together!!!!! Also , red carpet!!!!!
Same! I will hopefully start acting IEK in September as a first "big" step towards that dream. I think the best move is to get some what big here so we can then move to the big projects in Hollywood. Hope to see you in the big screen!
I'm someone who has just finished studying acting and really just starting my career. And I'm so glad I got taught how to make my own material as well as to learn how this business as well so we don't always get trapped in the audition cycle. Don't get me wrong I'll have to do some auditions and I sent off my first self tape recently but I'm glad I was taught how to be more than an actor.
The first part of this video is exactly why you need to love acting above anything. You need to enjoy the process of learning lines, auditioning putting everything into it. And as soon as you get that part you don’t let it slide. Go to the extremes to maximise your performance. Turn yourself into something you barely recognise anymore, method acting is without a doubt the most controversial technique an actor can use. But when used correctly, it can blow any other technique out of the water. I personally love Jack Nicholsons way of method acting. Red Carpet by the way 😊
Even though I'm not pursuing acting, I really enjoyed this video! I'm currently an aspiring author and the auditioning process reminds me a lot of the querying process (which is also very demoralizing and challenging)
I definitely got vulnerable in this video... Should I make more content like this?🤔 Let me know!💖
(ALSO I'm thinking about making another video like this highlighting why it's so hard to break into the film & television industry. Would you be interested?)
Yes! Sounds like a great vid idea
Go for it makayla!
Yes!
Ofc Anything u post is awesome and that is a great idea to talk about the life of an actor/actress
Could you do a video on how to stay safe and keeping a good moral compass ?
One of the worst feelings as an actor is when you KNOW you killed the audition but don’t get that call back… you really have to be strong and keep pushing
At that point get into writing and wrote your way into hollywoo
Happened to me once and never again, I told myself that day that” as soon as I complete my audition , I just leave it in the room “ if I dwell or dig out why I didn’t get a callback I’d just be torturing myself.
🤬
It helps with the motivation to keep going to remember that❤
Your comment reminded me this scene in Lalaland when she really did her best but never got a call back...
It's really who you know and why it's really hard to got into this industry.
literally. one role i went in for said they wanted a fresh face and then they casted mckenna grace…
I’m so glad she touched on this, because being a Actor isn’t just sunshines & rainbows. This really hit home!🤦🏿♂️🤍

Thank you for watching and supporting me 💖🙏🏽
I totally relate to this!
@@brodygalletti this is not true. Many schools have industry training and business courses, teaching you about how to do that stuff
So just enjoy it and know your time will come…

as a filmmaker with a lot of actor friends, i see this all the time. these are the people i see crying the most and it breaks my heart how hard it is for some of them. what i keep telling them and what i think ultimately can keep people going is having a true passion for the art. if you've gotten into acting because it seems like an easy job or because you wanna make money quick you're in for a rude awakening, especially nowadays with the general diminishment of the art because of streaming services. as someone who knows the flip side i can confirm that it really isn't about you most of the time. it's about catering to a very specific vision that you either fit into or don't. feeling fulfilled in a job like this really ultimately boils down to how much fire you have within you for the craft. and most importantly, this is true of any job. especially in the beginning. there is constant rejection and hard work, bad days, ungratefulness, diminishing of value, but as long as you want it bad enough it never feels like wasted effort. you just have to keep your eyes fixed on why you're doing it.
It is easy to start as a filmmaker beforw beeing an actress?
Being an actor is so difficult especially when you live in a small country that doesn't have as many opportunities. I go to the theater and I'm currently looking for a good agency, but it's so hard. But still... I loved the video, you're an inspiring person and you've already taught me so much! love u

@bighand69 actually love this comment and your perspective on it
I’m an actor in New York and this PERFECTLY sums up so much of what I’ve been through.

You hit the nail on the head. It gets really emotionally challenging because you put your all in auditions and submit it and you never hear back.
I have a side job and give acting classes to youth in school, but my heart wants to be acting full time and I am missing LA everyday❤

Thats nice!
Im super exited for the journey ahead and your videos are really helping me with motivation, thank you so much 🫶
I’ve always had a dream of being an actress and these videos always help me so much
I have been acting since I was eight but started taking it seriously this summer and got my first two jobs thanks to your tips but I also got rejected more than 50 times
I'm so sorry that you have been going through that:( I feel you girl
Hi Makayla! i'm a musician and i'm going through the same struggles actors have to deal with but just in music industry (rejections from record labels, from bigger artists etc) but i have a faith in me and enjoying the journey because it is very important to see the slightest progress which means one doesn't get stuck but gets better at craft and improves the approach to handling handicaps and hampers.
Thank you so much Lily. I definitely think this can apply to other industries and professions as well 💖🙏🏽
I’m really grateful for the fact that makayla has been through so much and she still persists to help US. Sometimes, it just seems like she’s doing it all for us which is so selfless and caring. Love u makayla, Keep on aspiring for your goals!!! 💖💖💖
Thanks Makayla for giving us an insight to what it takes to be an actor. Its player vs player in this industry and quite hard when living in Africa as I face a lot of hardships...I mean I can't be a Hollywood actor if I'm not in Hollywood, but you one of those people who save lives without knowing it.... continue pressing hard with passion and with purpose...Thank you🧘♂️✌️
Don’t say that. If u want anything in this world WORK HARD for it, u can achieve anything u put ur mind too!!!
Much love ❤️
Thank you for being so open and sharing your experience. I appreciate this insight and will continue to pursue my dream of becoming an actor. It’s scary because I’ve never really put myself out there like that yet. Keep going, Makayla. I’m cheering you on!
And you are right: “Comparison is the thief of joy.” - Theodore Roosevelt
Red carpet ❤❤❤
Thank you Mia for this comment. So happy I could inspire you and thank you for the positivity. 💖
Rachel Ziegler has Broadway experiences.
Red carpet! ♡ Thank you so much for helping us all out on our acting journeys and being so vulnerable and open about your own. I get so excited every time you post a new video and I am never disappointed. I can't describe how much you've helped me and I am so so grateful for you and your channel. Thank you Makayla! We love you ♡♡♡
Ahhhhh thank you so much for this comment and taking the time to write this. I appreciate the love!💖
@@MakaylaLysiak Anytime! Thank you for all you do for us ♡
This was such an inspiring video and so important!
So happy that you enjoy my videos! I wish you luck on your journey. And yes glory to God 💖
I am the same age and you and would love to be an actor you wanna be friends?
Never seen someone be so authentic and real. And really breaking down how it is like to be an actor. Using her time and effort to give us great content, can really relate to this. Thank you so much Makayla...
Thank you for this kind content and for supporting me!
I know how hard it is going to be,
I know I will face a lot of rejections,
I know I will have no advantage,
I know I am dreaming is for something over my capacity,
I know I have to sacrifice so much things,
I know I will face hate..
BUT I WILL DO IT NO MATTER WHAT
all the love and the fun behind acting is going to make me forget of all the hardships i had in my life : )
Thank you for sharing your experience. I wish you luck!💖🙌🏽
@@MakaylaLysiak thankyou💖 i wish good luck for u to makayla
Red Carpet!!!!!! Acting is literally my passion! I do understand the rejection part, though. I recently auditioned for a play, and I didn't get cast. I was heart broken, but I know there are more opportunities out there!
Glad to see a new video from you.
I'm not an actor nor do I wanna become one, but I really like your content.👍🏼Thanks for doing this. I'm sure you're helping a lot of people with your experiences, understanding and knowledge.
''Red Carpet''👀🤫
Thank you so much for this kind comment. Even though you aren’t an actor I’m glad you are supporting my content 💖🙏🏽
thank you SO SO much for touching on this.
I’m just glad to see someone that understands what we go through
I love that you aren’t afraid to be bold in sharing your faith! You’re helping so many people Makayla. Keep going and God bless you! ❤️
It’s very early in my acting journey… always wanted to do it but was too shy…
Fast forward to my last year of high school, I was thrown into a small production of The Little Mermaid and feel in love with the adrenaline and the whole experience… currently studying my second year of Acting as well as started my first year of Filmmaking…
I auditioned for a role in a big student film but unfortunately the project was put on hold until further notice due to unforeseen circumstances…
I currently don’t have an agent but really want one.
Part of me is dreading getting an agent and starting to work because of fear of rejection, or accidentally just signing to a sketchy agency, or worst, “signing my sole away”
I’m also hesitant due to being a white english speaking male living in South Africa where most acting jobs seem to be for the black Zulu or white Afrikaans speaking community.. which I fine don’t get me wrong but can get frustrating.
If you give up now then you’ll never reach your highest goals that I KNOW you’re capable of!❤️
Thank you for sharing this Hannah! It can definitely be frustrating, but it’s all part of the journey. We are in this together 💖🙏🏽
I'm from Argentina and I wanted to thank you for all your videos, they help me a lot❤️
Sometimes it's difficult to be in Argentina, so far from Hollywood and opportunities, but I know that it can happen and I am not gonna to give up.
You make such an impact on people and I believe we can get through all of the messes that we are in
Thank you so much for sharing this with me. I really appreciate your kindness and support. 💖🙏🏽
I am glad she talked about it am i will hopefully trying to get my first roll after a few acting classes and extreme cardio and workouts
Thanks for this video. This really sheds some light on the industry specifically the entertainment industry.
red carpet🤫… thank you so much makayla for helping us actors achieve our goals and dreams while still living our life and being in the moment!
I enjoy watching the actor round table talks as well and the actor on actors interviews because I learn so much from them
Congratulations on booking the extra role! I wish you luck on your journey and thank you for supporting me 💖🙏🏽
@@MakaylaLysiak thank you makayla and you’re welcome
Thank you so much for watching and sharing this! Much love💖🥹
@@MakaylaLysiak your welcome 🤗
People really don’t know how hard this industry is. Thanks for making me feel less alone. I had a callback for a commercial yesterday but who knows 😕
I just want to say that I know how strong all of you guys and girls who are going out everyday to try to make it. It truly is amazing that you can get back up and keep going with such passion. Keep trying and follow your heart.
🙏🏽💖🙌🏽🥹
