This is important everyone not only in nursing school but in a medical profession. Its important to be able to apply what you learn rather then just memorize the material. Even if you fail, it's better to fail in school then once you're in the real world and people's lives are at stack. Inspirational and motivational! Thanks!
Exactly, I am currently in nursing school in my 4th quarter and mentoring new first years and I tell them no more memorizing it’s applying it because nursing is all about critical thinking. I tell them my motto is “what’s going to kill them first”
I'm in my first semester of my schools nursing program. It was so difficult to get in, and now that I'm in, I am so overwhelmed with everything so far. It's only the first week and I'm dyinggggg. It's just so much so fast and I feel like everything is in a different language
The first week of nursing school is overwhelming! At my school we call it “first semester boot camp”. 😂 I graduate in April and still remember hating those first few weeks of first semester. YOU GOT THIS GIRL!❤️
My mom is a retired nurse. A couple of years back, I was considering for quite some time to do a mid-career switch into nursing but in the end realised that it's not for me. The reasons are because 1) I can deal with or handle corpses but i find it very hard to deal with things like seeing a patient who is suffering and in pain - with all the tubes in them, taking their blood samples or clearing bodily fluids from them, cleaning their wounds while they cringe in pain, dealing with emergencies etc etc and yet have to be calm. 2) dealing with the emotional part of caring for patients especially when death occurs We need lots of healthcare professionals but unfortunately not many are able to take on the job which can be both mentally and emotionally exhausting. I want to take this opportunity to salute and thank all the healthcare professionals around the world! You may not be aware of this but you're like little angels sent by God to help and take care of his sick people. Keep up the good work gal !
Nursing isn't for everyone. However, remember there are many different types of nursing and they are all valid. If you don't like dealing with people in physical pain, blood etc, that is ok. I am a mental health nurse and don't have to deal with drips, infusions etc. Nurses work in the community, not only hospitals. I have friends that work in schools, and specialist centres for children with learning difficulties. Nursing is such a wide field. Working in a hospital at the bedside is only a small part of the opportunities that nursing holds .
Absolutely true! So long as your program is accredited and you successfully pass your courses and your NCLEX, the rest doesn't matter much. More important is if you pursue a BSN vs. an ADN for your RN because a lot of hospitals will rank BSNs over ADNs if it comes down to close competition for a job.
I just graduated from an accelerated Bachelor's Nursing program in 16 months and let me tell you this: make friends to gain resources. I shared my notes with half the class and in return, I gained awesome notes from people who knew some upperclassmen. Your classmates are your critical resources for lectures and clinical. When I did my rotations, I would always ask my peers for help first because they might know something I don't or vice versa.
the biggest thing I have realized is the ability to multitask and stay calm when everything is going haywire. I also saw that this applied to people who were in my nursing degree program. All the people that were constantly hyper stressed all the time over everything never made it. I always got made fun of for seeming like I did not care that much. Truth was, I care a ton and that is why I chose nursing. You just really have to be able to manage yourself and your stress levels, accepting that some things are not within your control to worry about or spend energy on. The people that are high stress and frazzled are the ones I, and most other nurses dread working with on the unit. This is why most nursing degree programs spend a good chunk of time ie a relational theory/practice course on managing yourself and taking care of yourself so you can take care of others!
I’m 21 with two children under 2 and I’m in the process of starting to apply for nursing school. Can you do a video on the steps you took in order to get to where you are now? It would be very helpful. I’ve been looking up to you for encouragements as well as motivation so it would mean a lot to me. Thank you for all you do
Faduma Hassan , Congrats! Keep up the good work. After I graduated I took time off to be there at the quintessential stages of my kids life and now that I’m ready to hop back into it I’m lost 😭 I don’t get the process to get from point A to B with absolute certainty of success.
Same here. I feel you. I am 21 and have 2 year old and a one year old. I am thinking of taking LVN and then RN. Hopefully everything works out for me. I need to work on with my husbands schedule. It’s really hard especially when you don’t have a strong family support.
Terry Dagohoy Goodluck with that, you got this! I also have to work with my hubbys schedule while also watching my children. I don’t have support either because of the toxicity, but we can do this with the love and support of our hubby and children 💪🏼 unstoppable & unconditional 💕
thanks for being honest with your struggles in nursing school. So many of my students lose confidence when they fail a validation or exam. It's helpful when people are honest and show that even if you fail, you can still be successful as long as you work hard.
I'm not a nurse but there are definitely applicable to any healthcare career. It's definitely worth it all. I remember going to night classes & coming home to do my homework while nursing my infant son. In one module, I did ALL the homework in one weekend just so it would free up time to study & do projects. My teacher almost fainted when I dropped the stack on her desk that Monday! XD
By the way. I’m senior now and my specialized subject is Nursing, they thought so many scientific stuff...WHICH IS GREAT! . Hoping that I will be a nurse soon after that I will proceed to be a Doctor..🥳
I just got accepted from nursing school, it’s DDPN. And I feel so scare but excited, stronger too. I know it’s expensive, but I believe I’m young, I can make money one day to pay back. Money isn’t everything, and it can’t stop my dream. I have taken every step to make my dream comes true when I was 12 years old. I know it’s hard, it’s about responsibilities, saving people lives,...but I won’t give up. I still have like many years to study, so like you said, I won’t fear of fail, I like to fail, I like to make mistakes, but not repeat one mistake twice. Thanks for your sharing. 🥰
I love this video! I'm trying to get into nursing school and I appreciate the importance of nursing school. Your videos encourage and motivate me to never give up Thank You ILY
These are so true!! I just graduated from my LVN program and I could absolutely relate to every single one of these. I will hopefully be going back to school to get my RN soon as well!
I tried getting into college to study nursing. My dad denied giving me the needed information to pay for my education becuase I need to be 24 to be a dependent of my own financial aid. Did I waste my time filling information about myself and talking to the staff members, touring the school, and even taking my school photo? "Yes." Did I cry about it when I found out my dad is what postponed my further education? "Yes. -Yes I did." Months later, do I still want to be a nurse? "Yes. I do."
This was so helpful tysm, I would love to hear more about the process of how you moved from high school to university and how you learned everything you need to know because I'm feeling a bit stuck myself.
Thanks for the video. I'm two weeks into the program and I didn't do well on my first quiz 😣 thanks for the pep talk "you will fail." I'll make sure to stay strong and moving forward. Super helpful!
Wow, everything you said applied to me and I was really contemplating if I should work this year because people would tell me “I shouldn’t work during nursing school,” also thanks for telling me that grades aren’t everything and that it’s ok to fail because that what I have always thought that in the real world grades are everything and once I first got my first B+ this sem I was honestly devastated
I always heard that the best bedside nurse made B's and C's in school. A 4.0 might help you if you only want to go into management but nobody hires managers right out of nursing school that I'm aware of.
I found your channel last week and I’m obsessed! I’m 16 and probably not going into medicine, but I love hearing about all of this! If possible, can you vlog more? Those are my favorites to watch
the clinical being like a job interview is true!! i had a classmate who got a job on the same floor he did clinical on. esp if your school is well known in the area or frequents the hospital, the managers can get involved with the student nurses and their preceptors. so they can definitely see how you are as a student and handle your patient assignments.
I don't like the idea of becoming a nurse myself but I loved the way you described your experience with nursing. I love how you talked about the people you get to witness becoming better and healthier, that gives me so much joy. it's nice knowing that there are nurses who actually care about their patients and not think of them as work objects. I have had very bad experiences with nurses when I was younger and I want every nurse to be the complete opposites of those nurses. Thank you :)
Thank you so much! I know I'm a bit late, but I just got into nursing school so this was very helpful! I'm so excited!!! Your videos are always so inspiring!!! Thank you for all that you do, particularly during this pandemic, and all that you share with us!
Omg!! I go to CSP! Traditional BSN though, but I absolutely LOVE the professors! They really take into consideration the way students feel and learn and they want to make a positive impact on students.
I may be only 13 but I have a 4.0 GPA and want to go to UC Davis and become a Register Nurse 😊 I also except the challenge because it’s a passion of mine!
It's 1000% worth it! In one of my first clinical rotations in peds, one of my patient's was a little girl with really bad 3rd degree burns and whenever we came in to change her dressings she would scream and cry it was so heart breaking. My preceptor had told us to do our best to keep her distracted and keep her mind off the pain. So I'm in there with two other people from my clinical group and they weren't doing anything (to be fair they were guys so you can't really fault them in not knowing what a little would like). So I walked over to her and asked who her favorite Disney princess was, no surprise she said it was Elsa, so I asked if she wanted to sing some of Elsa's songs with me while the others changed her dressings. She lit up! She still cried but it wasn't as bad as before. Any other time I'd go in to check on her she'd sing for me. the next week when she was discharged, her family was just leaving when I was getting there for my rotation and she gave me a little Elsa sticker to remember her by. It's still in my pocket notebook.
Hello from Singapore!! I’m not a nurse, but I’m an EMT and honestly your videos are motivating and helps me through my shift!! Can’t wait to watch more of your videos!! 😍
The school where my granddaughter (12 month ABSN) goes has a 100% NCLEX pass rate for last four years. She will graduate in 30 days on 18 December 2020. She was just accepted for nurse residency at Houston Methodist. She failed that math test, but got 100% on retest.
I’m currently in my 1st year, and I could say that my daily tasks rn are my weekly tasks back in senior high🥲… but hoping to become a good nurse someday😌

hello miki,i m a nurse in Asia, and are preparing for being a register nurse in U.S.,cuz in my country, nurses are not being respected in the mostly medical environments, but its a bit hard and the process to be a nurse in U.S. is quite complicated, I'm still working on it, I just want to let you know that your video always encourage me to keep doing this, thank you!
I am currently in 10th grade and thinking I want to be an L&D nurse, I'm freaking out because my grades are slipping in math, but I'm not sure what all kinds of math are super important in nursing. Of course there are things like figuring out how much meds to give, but are things like geometry and simplifying radicals super necessary? And what all extra classes should I take in highschool to help me do well in nursing school?
Hi Miki! Thank you for the advice! Especially about being able to work in nursing school. I got my bachelors in biology and am applying to ABSN programs (crossing fingers and toes) so I would love a video about that if you know anyone doing it. I started thinking about nursing about 2 years ago so honestly I'm still not sure, but watching your videos gives me hope. Also, I would love a video about the different routes possible after getting your BSN.
i know i am still very young and I'm barely going into high school but I think this might be the thing that I really want to do because I've always loved being with little kids and I don't want to do ll that surgery stuff and I'm hopefully going to be the first-generation in collage
i graduate in may and is starting my BSN in the fall... i am very excitred on my journey to becoming an RN......but pleaseee tell me im not the only one that gets anxiety because they think their not smart enough or might really mess up in the medical field :(
Let’s make this a continuing series where you just sit down and talk about things. These kinds of video make you even more relatable than you already are! Maybe call it “Sit Down Saturday” :)
Hi Miki , I know you since yesterday, and your information do help. I found out there is a RUclips take your idea to her video, with the exact same title and key points. You can go check it Hey l It’s Ely
I want to be a nurse but I feel like I’m not intelligent enough to be one I see everyone saying oh it’s a lot of study you need 95% and because of that I’m scared I’m not sure if I’m able being a nurse is everything for me but am I enough Intelligent and I hope I can be one so my family can be proud I’m still in high school but I’m done in like 2 years and I’m scared of being a nurse can people give me advice?ahah
Our professors were tough. They acted like they wanted nothing more than to fail us. Now I see why. Nursing is a tough profession. Weaklings will not make it, so better to fail you now in school than later as a nurse.
I worked at a nursing home while I was in school and it really helped me get comfortable taking care of patients before getting my first RN job in the ER.
I'm beginning nursing school this semester. Thanks for sharing. I'm looking forward to a career helping people. Is it difficult to decide on a specialty after graduation?
Can you do a video explaining why you didn’t decide to become a doctor? Bc these days I’m thinking if I wanna really become a doctor or a nurse. Love you videos thank you sm❣️
I wish I know your channel before applying to UCLA nursing😂. Thanks for your videos!! Can you tell us why you chose nursing as early as in your high school?
Stupid question here I'm so sorry. But can I become a nurse even if I'm really bad at math right now? (9th grade) I want to work in the medical field but I don't know if I'm good enough. I can deffinitely improve on my math skills trhough work,I know basic math but when it comes to ecuations, algebra, calculus etc I'm the worst. (Sorry for my english I hope you understand haha 😅😅)
hello - great video. im also a student nurse (start in september) i have transferred from paramedic science to nursing and might have to start from year one. im also documenting my journey so would love and appreciate the support. amazing video as usual and super helpful...

Yeah. Every test we took we were always told “what nurse do you want? You want the nurse who got a C or a A in fundamentals?!!!!” 😂😂😂

Yes!!! Its fast and you have to learn a lot in a little amount of time. Its very difficult but will be worth it. Good luck. I graduate next may. ❤

Nursing isn't for everyone. However, remember there are many different types of nursing and they are all valid. If you don't like dealing with people in physical pain, blood etc, that is ok. I wish that was the worst. The worse is not that but the burnout and the bullying in the nursing profession
I’m a nursing major & I just wanna say thank you for the relief about rankings & schools :•)

Em doing Generic BSN from Pakistan.

Great video for a future nursing student like me
I love your videos! You’re so sweet! 💖
I can't wait to be a nurse!
It's so important to be prepared for nursing school!! Love your vids
Our professors were tough. They acted like they wanted nothing more than to fail us. Now I see why. Nursing is a tough profession. Weaklings will not make it, so better to fail you now in school than later as a nurse.
I'm trying to get accepted into Respiratory care school 😭
Omg I'm a second-year nursing student next sem 💓
I just got accepted into the Nursing program at CSP (:
What activities will be helpful as a nursing student to help better land a job after graduating?
I worked at a nursing home while I was in school and it really helped me get comfortable taking care of patients before getting my first RN job in the ER.
I'm so happy I found you
I'm beginning nursing school this semester. Thanks for sharing. I'm looking forward to a career helping people. Is it difficult to decide on a specialty after graduation?
Fundamentals of nursing hehe watching from the Philippines
Can you do a video explaining why you didn’t decide to become a doctor? Bc these days I’m thinking if I wanna really become a doctor or a nurse. Love you videos thank you sm❣️
Bcz to be a doc you need the grades... for me at least. I'm a nicu nurse btw and i love it
I wish I know your channel before applying to UCLA nursing😂. Thanks for your videos!! Can you tell us why you chose nursing as early as in your high school?
I think that one of my friends is graduating from Nursing School this year.
Stupid question here I'm so sorry.
But can I become a nurse even if I'm really bad at math right now? (9th grade)
I want to work in the medical field but I don't know if I'm good enough.
I can deffinitely improve on my math skills trhough work,I know basic math but when it comes to ecuations, algebra, calculus etc I'm the worst. (Sorry for my english I hope you understand haha 😅😅)
Hope to finish it as early as possible
