I have a 91 Cherokee base that I bought 5 years ago, and today brought home a 96 Grand Cherokee, I have watched a lot of your vids over the last couple years. You have helped me out on so many problems and projects that have came up with the Cherokee. I wanted to take a moment and thank you personally for your channel. You continue to to an outstanding job.
Thank you Matt for making these videos. my first vehicle was a pos 92 jeep cherokee that needed a whole lot of work(re wired all electrical systems, painted, lifted 5 inches, transmission rebuild, 4wd and driveshafts, u joints, gas tank, and many other fixes that I learned to do by watching your videos) if I hadn't of found your RUclips channel I wouldn't know half as much about fixing up cars/trucks and JEEPS as i do now. Your videos introduced me into the wonderful world of off roading and I love it! I have been following your channel since mid zombie jeep project and have watched every video. Please keep up the great work and God bless you.

You are becoming an awesome fabricator. Congratulations!
+BleepinJeep great videographer also. i've tried recording when working on my vehicles and it's just way too much work. i don't have the patience for it. thanks!
I used to love to go to my mechanic's garage on Saturdays just to see him work. Unfortunately he passed away some years ago. This channel is a great alternative. Great detail. Thanks.
I would build that fieard edge with full 1 1/2" DM.snd cut the plate to lay it in top at the tubing's cl. A frame member across the fronts with c channel support boxed that the bumper would key on with the winch mount bolts would mount the bumper and reinforce the bumper and winch as well as brackets from the OEM frame. The whole bumper assembly would bolt to the 3 frame projections for strength and easy removal. This inline 6 has a tendency to run hot and U wouldn't want to mess with it.
I have seen probably way too many of your videos, actually, 535 to be exact. Been a huge fan for over a year right now. Hopefully your channel never stops growing. good luck with the build matt. You should definitely start doing ZJ videos though.
Nice job Matt. I know how much additional work it is to make videos in addition to doing the work. I just wanted to say thanks. Always informative inspirational as well as entertaining. I like the expansion to the channel, but your dry wit is still my favorite.
I know this is one of your older video's but I must complement you on a couple of things. Like Slacker Jon says it's good to see the mistakes followed up by your pretty awesome fabrication skills. Great vid and a beautiful bumper.
well it was obvious that this one was pretty stressful for you Matt but I think you did an awesome job keep the videos coming. this is by far my favorite channel on RUclips
I just found your videos and enjoy them. When transferring hole to a template, try laying your material over the hole and tap it with the round end of a ball peen hammer. That takes the guess work out. Bumper looks good.
looks great. Also for the 2 pieces of inch bracing inside the bumper, you could have cut slots in the bottom plate to access the edge of the braces to weld it fully or mostly to the plate
I really like this design idea. Going to use this pattern for the center piece on my 51 Willeys pickup which sits on a 80s K5 blazer chassie and running gear names Jeezer.
thanks for making vids as often as possible. i know you must be busy and making videos is never quick but ive gained a lot of very helpful stuff from your videos! i used a few tricks in my adv. metals class to make some running board/steps for my jeep and they turned out awesome due to some tricks you taught me!
Are you going to seal off the bottom plate on the back side...just worry about dirt and stuff that could get in there and then rust it out. Probably best to seal off? I know you'd lose your access to the winch bolts, maybe you could just weld threaded studs in the top plate for the winch? Just a thought, looks awesome regardless. Love your channel. You taught me how to change unit hubs on a D30 long ago!
Very informative video, with lots of tips and tricks. Like the use of tubing on the leading edge, It looks a lot better than flat plate. I'll probably use some of your ideas, on my old Powerwagon. I don't own a Jeep but every video I watch, is useful information for the old Dodge.
Very sleek Matt, looks strong and fit for purpose. Many off road bumpers could lose some weight, visual and mass, Chucke2009s F250 comes to mind haha. Having less dead weight over the front whilst supporting a large winch is a good idea for all bumpers, not just for a crawler.
Looks sweet. I worry about blocking the radiator air flow and overheating. I’m in California. I’m thinking stubby with winch tucked under. I need other project - SYE, rear CV driveshaft and 6 degree shims first.
Nice job on the bar, the front bottom plate would serve you better sitting under like you said. The half cut bars could help with a hi lift jack from slipping out.
Great project and work! Love the channel. Not sure if DOM tubing is necessary here. People usually use DOM tubing in cage and other structural fabrication because it does not have a seam, so in an impact the pipe wont split along a seam. In this case the pipe is cut in half so you could use a cheaper pipe with the same wall thickens as long as you avoid using the seam in your pieces.
Shakle points should be a straight continuation of the mounting plates from the frame mount. Load directed straight off the frame. Not welded to the sheet metal. Shipyard structural welder. Dandahermit
this is a amaizing vid, I have ZJ and it's hard to find aftermarket bumpers. This vid solves all my issues, now once I can buy the steel I'm building this bumper. What about making a vid on fabing our own skid plates and maybe diff cover protectors? please, I use all ur vids to do all my work on jeeps. Thank u for all the killer vids
i have to agree with others about leaving the mistakes in. i enjoyed them even though it ate up time. i usually learn more from mistakes (mine especially lol). thanks for a great video!
I like the half tubes, no questions. However, I must say that the hidden winch designs of BadDadFab and BWE seem to lose only 2" of ground clearance, which is made up for by having a bumper that doesn't stick out more than an inch further than the frame.
Just a thought. You could cut into the grille just enough to sink the bumper back another 2 or 3 inches. Then the winch would still be accessible and you would not need to have the angle brackets on the frame. Otherwise it rocks. I am looking forward to the videos. You just passed Dirt Every Day as my favorite show on you tube.
Nice job on the bumper, not really my style, but it looks great. My favorite part are the tabs you made to attach it to the frame. A few things though, 1/4" plate is overkill, 3/16" would be plenty and get yo a 25% weight savings. I know you're shooting for a high approach angle, but the crank pulley looks kinda vulnerable, I'd rather hit a crossmember or bumper than my crank. Keep up the good work.
+Sean Ross Ya, at the time I thought my axle would be in front of the pulley but later realized that would put my wheelbase out too far so I may need to rethink that.
you could add on anything to that bumper. I already have ideas for my jeep thanks to your videos. thanks for teaching us how to o it ourselves. keep jeep bleepin on lol !!!!!!!!! ;d
Another impressive fab video! Love the bumper build and how you go into detail with your mistakes. I learned when i grow up I want to build cool shit too! Where's your Mr Rogers intro?
+BleepinJeep I actually have started fabricating myself after watching the videos. I'm planning a tire carrier bumper build for my 06 LJ. just have to upgrade to a better welder than my harbor freight one.
+BleepinJeep cool. I was wondering. I really do like that bumper. I used a roll bar out of a 80s era cj to make a rear bumper for a ranger I had. not as elaborate but similaf.
Next time to make life easier skip this 1" strips that you added to brace up you top plate and just use your winch bolting locations to be the brace by finding out what size tube it take for your winch bolts to fit threw and weld up your bumper and then drilling your holes threw both up and lower plate and placing the tubing in the whole and welding around the top of the tube Which connects your upper and lower plate and prevents the bolt from distorting and crushing the 2 plates and making it easier to install and remove your winch for repairs or up keep
I think you might have been able to save more space if you were to recess the winch into the grill. That way the bumper wouldn't need to stick out as far. But that would require you to cut the grill up..
+Robert Smith no matter what bumper you get or buy the winch will always be in front of the bumper unless its one of those huge ARB bumpers where the winch goes underneath like I did on the zombie jeep.
Great job! I do like your style with the front and rear bumpers you fabricated!😎👍I was wondering if you do any pipe bending? And if so could you make up a tubular bumper, roll-cage, or roof rack?
can you please answer a question for my buddy? Here we go so my buddy has a 91 jeep Cherokee manual 2 door. Makes a knock sound in 1st gear once and a while. Middle console is where sound comes from. Any advice? We now follow you...
I have a 91 Cherokee base that I bought 5 years ago, and today brought home a 96 Grand Cherokee, I have watched a lot of your vids over the last couple years. I'm glad you didn't edit out the mistakes. Seeing you screw up somehow makes me feel better.
ROFL!!

I used to love to go to my mechanic's garage on Saturdays just to see him work. Unfortunately he passed away some years ago. This channel is a great alternative. Great detail. Thanks.
Your fabrication skills keep getting better and better every video, they're awesome to watch! Keep up the great work you look like a pro
+MrChevyrunner not sure about that but thanks!
oh also wanted to say I love that you do not edit out your mistakes. not only do you learn we learn as well. keep up the good work.
This is the eighth time watching the video, I learn something new each time!!! thanks Matt
I would build that fieard edge with full 1 1/2" DM.snd cut the plate to lay it in top at the tubing's cl. Best Cherokee bumper build I've seen. I know Jeeps are built and not bought, but, Matt if you ever decide to sell these, I want one!
Matt, I love your videos so so much. Thank you for taking the time to film all of your great work. You never cease to inspire me
You have the best videos! Don't change the color of the jeep! That color is the best!
I have seen probably way too many of your videos, actually, 535 to be exact. Been a huge fan for over a year right now. Hopefully your channel never stops growing. good luck with the build matt. You should definitely start doing ZJ videos though.
+Mike Bullis thanks man!
Nice job Matt. I know how much additional work it is to make videos in addition to doing the work. I just wanted to say thanks. Always informative inspirational as well as entertaining. I like the expansion to the channel, but your dry wit is still my favorite.
+Michael Phillips thanks man! thanks for watching!
Good job Matt, your fabrication skills are really getting top notch
That was a great design! Can't wait to see that video about the warping I've never had it happen but I would like to see some of the fixes for that.
Nice job customizing this Jeep - love the way this bumper build worked out.
I know this is one of your older video's but I must complement you on a couple of things. Like Slacker Jon says it's good to see the mistakes followed up by your pretty awesome fabrication skills.
Great vid and a beautiful bumper.
Ah, the notorious random compressor turn on. Always scares me!
Great vid, Matt!
because of you I am starting to like jeeps. so much potential.
Amazing brainwork. I would have never thought to cut the tubing in half like that. Good job.
+Scott Berkey thanks
well it was obvious that this one was pretty stressful for you Matt but I think you did an awesome job keep the videos coming. this is by far my favorite channel on RUclips
Nice unique winch bumper design. You are so talented.
Thank you
I just found your videos and enjoy them. When transferring hole to a template, try laying your material over the hole and tap it with the round end of a ball peen hammer. That takes the guess work out. Bumper looks good.
I like your videos, simple, entertaining, and educational. Jeeps coming along nicely, really makes me want to start on mine.
Even though I don't have a jeep (I'm drivin' and workin' on Suzuki Vitara) I love your videos! :D Greetings from Poland
looks great. Also for the 2 pieces of inch bracing inside the bumper, you could have cut slots in the bottom plate to access the edge of the braces to weld it fully or mostly to the plate
+Alex Ottomano I did holes instead
Interesting to watch, i like watching mistakes and how you get by them. Would love to see a snow plow being made.
Loving this build! i'm gonna be very jelly when your finished....but keep up the great work!
I really like this design idea. Going to use this pattern for the center piece on my 51 Willeys pickup which sits on a 80s K5 blazer chassie and running gear names Jeezer.
well done matt congratulations we need man like you
thanks for making vids as often as possible. i know you must be busy and making videos is never quick but ive gained a lot of very helpful stuff from your videos! i used a few tricks in my adv. metals class to make some running board/steps for my jeep and they turned out awesome due to some tricks you taught me!
+Logan Lovell sweet, thanks for watching!
Why didn't you just cut your grill slots and push it in? Like the JP did with the Shrink Ray TJ project.
Can't wait to see the finished build!!
Ya so do i
Are you going to seal off the bottom plate on the back side...just worry about dirt and stuff that could get in there and then rust it out. Probably best to seal off? Love the bumper! Would love to see the rest of the tube work in detail you mentioned attaching to the top side for side pulls.
keep watching, I have a lot more videos of it!

Your videos help. I'm planning out a Step Van project. Though not directly related. The basics are applicable. 👍
That bumper is sweet. It is giving me some ideas for my subaru
Looks sweet. I worry about blocking the radiator air flow and overheating. I’m in California. I’m thinking stubby with winch tucked under. I need other project - SYE, rear CV driveshaft and 6 degree shims first.
Why not cut an insert in the grille so the winch is recessed in it, don't go moving the grill, the hood will be off
gonna be at sema one day representing bleepin jeep.
+Anthony Deluise I hope so!
+BleepinJeep you represent the part of actual extreme offroading, the diy, the shit that you cant buy, and its amazing watching you work.
Nice job on the bar, the front bottom plate would serve you better sitting under like you said. The half cut bars could help with a hi lift jack from slipping out.
Great Bumper! You gave me some great ideas for my 87 Suburban!
Great project and work! Love the channel.

ha ha I love watching you make mistakes. Makes me feel like you're a regular guy like me.
Yeah, not some tv show shit that just gets everything perfect first try😐 it’s real life mistakes happen and it’s great he shows them.
Shakle points should be a straight continuation of the mounting plates from the frame mount. Load directed straight off the frame. Not welded to the sheet metal. Shipyard structural welder. Dandahermit
Very clean and simple design, look's great!!
Matt you should sell your bumper templates on your web site, I like the way you made the bumper look.
this is a amaizing vid, I have ZJ and it's hard to find aftermarket bumpers. This vid solves all my issues, now once I can buy the steel I'm building this bumper.
What about making a vid on fabing our own skid plates and maybe diff cover protectors? please, I use all ur vids to do all my work on jeeps. Thank u for all the killer vids
makes me want to learn this and become a fabricator. definitely need to find me something to make some side money
Love the look of that bumper!
Love this guys creativity
i enjoy watching you do the things i love, thanks.
the hi lift is awesome for straightening bumpers and skids
i have to agree with others about leaving the mistakes in. i enjoyed them even though it ate up time. i usually learn more from mistakes (mine especially lol). thanks for a great video!
+Joseph Barker ya me too, thanks for watching!
everyone is probably just commenting bout the jeep its self, which is pretty cool....but! that outro is pretty snazzy!
Great looking bumper!!! Love the videos and ideas. Keep them coming!
I like the half tubes, no questions. However, I must say that the hidden winch designs of BadDadFab and BWE seem to lose only 2" of ground clearance, which is made up for by having a bumper that doesn't stick out more than an inch further than the frame.

+syzfilms sweet, wish I had their budget but glad to be tops above them anyhow;)

That's a bleepin sweet bumper! You give great tips and ideas thanks
you could add on anything to that bumper. I already have ideas for my jeep thanks to your videos. thanks for teaching us how to o it ourselves. keep jeep bleepin on lol !!!!!!!!! ;d
Well done MATT I really did like this vid!!!
Looking good Matt! Thank goodness you caught the braces before you welded them in all the way. ;)
you should make one of those hollow bumpers that serve as a reserve air compressor tank
Another impressive fab video! Love the bumper build and how you go into detail with your mistakes. I learned when i grow up I want to build cool shit too! Where's your Mr Rogers intro?
that bumper looks amazing! great job :)
One damn fine bumper my man.
Work of Art Matt! Your videos help me with my yj. Thanks :)
Thanks for watching
I love watching your videos keep it up buddy
This is a prime example of cut, weld then design
videos like this makes me wish I switched from engineering to welding/fabricating
+Tim Davis You don't need any kind of schooling to do this, I certainly don't have any
+BleepinJeep I actually have started fabricating myself after watching the videos. I'm planning a tire carrier bumper build for my 06 LJ. just have to upgrade to a better welder than my harbor freight one.
very nice work again, cant wait for more updates. godbless
I like that bumper. looks clean. Did you atleast plug weld the bottom plate to the spacer brackets you cut?
Yes
+BleepinJeep cool. I was wondering. I really do like that bumper. I used a roll bar out of a 80s era cj to make a rear bumper for a ranger I had. not as elaborate but similaf.
Thanks for making that mistake on the 1 inch steel. Makes me feel better!
Well as long as you feel good;)
+BleepinJeep I do that stuff ALL THE TIME!
Nice job. Should have made the mounting brackets thicker and longer back on jeep frame.
Good work mate, it looks awesome.
I think you might have been able to save more space if you were to recess the winch into the grill. That way the bumper wouldn't need to stick out as far. But that would require you to cut the grill up..
+XxMrMintyxX ya I dont want to bootyfab the grill
Suggestions on turning a WJ into a crawler?
sell WJ, buy crawler
nice work mister rogers
I love your work. Keep up the vids.
Looks good, but do you think that the winch will block some of the air to the radiator? You know that the XJ runs pretty warm with the puny radiator.
+Robert Smith no matter what bumper you get or buy the winch will always be in front of the bumper unless its one of those huge ARB bumpers where the winch goes underneath like I did on the zombie jeep.
Matt! You have to check out what JCR offroad is petitioning for on their you tube channel! it would be freaking awesome!
Excellent work, excellent videos.
awesome bumper keep up the good work
Great build. looks awesome. what did you your plasma cutter setup cost you and what size air compressor did it require to run your plasma cutter.
Bumper is awesome man. Definitely gave me some ideas. What was the song at the end?
Any advice? We now follow you...
awesome bumper! what brand winch is that your going with. i see 12,000lbs but don't see a brand. is it a harbor freight one?
My friend used an I beam and it was awesome
It's held together with magnets and wood!
Great Job Matt. Very Cool
It looks good and strong I like it
Very nice, I liked what you did.
Any project for YJ Wrangler
