  • Here are some elements to some of Bob Beamon's non-world record jumps. These jumps are quite a bit different than his 29'2 that surpassed all other jumps in history by 21" (Imagine someone jumping well over 30 feet today!)
A big lesson with this is: The athlete is an individual with immense power and problem solving abilities. You as a coach are a facilitator. Don't ruin athletes by over-coaching, or trying to coach away their nuances that you don't understand. This video is designed to promote understanding.

You analysts always miss what was different in Beamon’s world record jump. It was his arms. In Beamon’s world record, it was the ONLY time he swung his arms all the way through his sides. All previous jumps, including his qualifying and his jump after the world record, Beamon would throw his hands in front. With that in mind, look at the videos you analyzed. Pass it on. Especially to Tianna Bartoletta, who does what Beamon previously did before he broke the WR BY 21 inches!
