At 5:20-5:30 you are looking towards Refuge Rock (it extends further past the trees). It was actually used in WW2 for mortar practice as an aiming point from locations in the valley around. You can still see the shell marks in the rock.
Really! I saw that on the map after I came back from there and was annoyed that I forgot to go and see what it was. Sounds like it would have been interesting, though even more so now that you've explained the history. Thanks!
I live up on a hill; and some kilometres down the hill from me is a sewerage treatment plant near one of the beaches. Been living here for years and haven't really smelt anything untoward - however there is a dune walk that runs a long the beach near the treatment plant where occasionally you can get a waft of the smell that you're talking about. The run off goes into the sea and causes foam like those I can see in the video drifting down the pond/stream. However being the ocean we also get a natural byproduct of an algae bloom, as well, where it produces a lot of foam and a rather different pungent smell. Ahh the joys the being out there 🙂 Thanks for the video. That natural arch was quite a find, indeed! Good to see you getting out there amongst it.
Thanks Tony. The weird smell is an interesting one. I guess with the ocean outfalls, there is better dilution of the effluent but very interesting that you can smell it too.
Another good one Jason. I really like the mountain bike POV videos. Those bloody leeches just seem to be everywhere. Anyway stay safe and have fun as you do. Cheers, Sean.
My pleasure! I guess it's inevitable with the size of our population, but yeah, it's an unpleasant reminder of the impact we all have. I try to buy scent free products where I can, but after learning this.....🙄
Wow, you find some really beautiful places! I love how much you appreciate nature. You seem to have become a bit of a magnet for sticks it seems lol. The natural arch is so cool. Very fascinating! So was the big overhanging rock with all the holes in it & the ‘spa’, but it’s a shame about the sewerage pollution in there. I was wondering what was in the water making it smell. So cool how trees have grown around rocks too! I love that you show us all these amazing places! Thank you for sharing.
Definitely got a stick thing going on 😂 It paid off heading into that area. Beautiful walks around there. Kind of funny too how the water up at the spa was way clearer that the other branch of the creek....at least the sewage treatment plant outputs clear looking water 🤔
Thank you so much for all the beautiful closeups of the rocks, the water, the moss, and the grass trees LOL 😂 I would really love to be there, but I’m a bit mobility challenged atm 😂 I’ve just photographed all the tree trunks in my local park 😂😂
😊 I'm more than happy to do all the hard walking for you! My next video has a close up of a tree that looks like a Casuarina, but with really interesting bark I've never seen before. You'll have to let me know if you've seen it before 😁
I have all trails, but only the free version at the moment. Great for finding places, but I need to pay up so I can download maps. At the moment, it resets when I lock my phone and if I have no reception....well, I'm lost 😂
😂 certainly seems to be the case! Kind of made worse by living in a small space and not wanting to buy more stuff until the previous thing has vacated its space in the cupboard 😂
Common question that I should do a video on. My budget is $300 per week, not including rego and insurance. I'm usually a fair bit under that and can still afford to buy things for the van too.
@@MakingStuffGoingPlaces how do you make an income ? or have you hit 60 and sponsored by Centrelink now with the aged pension 😀 or maybe a good superannuation payout ?
Hey Jason. When you walk or MTB into those semi-bush areas, do you often check for mobile cell signal in case of emergencies? Eg: God forbid, lose your footing and fall off a boulder or have a serious head-over-handlebars event on the bike. Cheers.
Unfortunately as the risk increases, the phone coverage reduces. It is a calculated risk, but I do need to get better at notifying someone at least...🙄

Very interesting video. Thank you.
Appreciate the feedback! 😊
As a lifelong Sydneysider, thank you for showing me amazing trails and areas I never knew existed! Loving your videos, you've got a new subscriber!
Thankyou very much and thanks for coming along! 😊

Welcome to my neck of the woods. Thank you for showing me new tracks to go explore.
Thanks. First time I've explored around there. Lots of nice spots 😊

Thanks Sean. Yeah, I'm definitely having a bit or a run on leeches at the moment 😂
Just beautiful thankyou for sharing 🌸
Always a pleasure 😊
Another beautiful area, it’s really awful all those chemicals go into the stream water, really frustrating, thanks for showing us around 😊
My pleasure!

interesting to learn about the fragrant smell coming from the water. Good researching. 👍
More of a lucky find. There was very little information on it, but found an old news article explaining it. Very interesting.

Really enjoying your videos..
Thank you for the support 😊
Beautiful area
Beautiful bushland 🙂
Always noticed the smell at same spot, reminded me washing machine as well.
Yeah, it's pretty strong smelling. Synthetic musk, they call it.
The Hills District has a lot of hiking trails, creeks, reserves for you to explore. Would be great if you could explore much more and tag us along 😄
I need to try some other places....kind of done this area now 😂
Lovely stuff, take a look at the app all trails shows a lot of hiking spots.

As you get older you seem to have to shop more often, enjoy your channel

Sounds like that microphone muffler for the GoPro is working well in the wind at Hornsby!
Yeah, I think it helps a lot! The winds noise before was really annoying.
Full time living in a van is exhausting .
😂 sometimes it is! I still manage to have plenty of time to do nothing.
You wouldn't want to get stuck in that natural arch of rock no-one would fing you till you were a skeleton scary 😮
The gap looks a lot smaller on the video. It would be a squeeze but I could fit through the gap 😂

I was living off the rent from my house, but have just sold it and put the cash into term deposits. It took 10 years of hard saving.
@@MakingStuffGoingPlaces Thanks - looking at retirement - I'm thinking this might be a way to afford living.
