- In this Video, I mod and upgrade a nerf spectre rev-5. This video shows in depth, step by step how to make the spring more powerful, remove the tip for size reduction (makes a holster much more feasible), and how to remove the air restrictors. I also show internals and what tools you need.

What does regret taste like?
I did this mod without even looking at any mod tutorials as it looked just like the Maverick style setup, I took the entire Air re-stricter out since it didn't seem to change performance but allowed the darts to sit further in.
On a side note, for those doing the spring stretching, if your having trouble putting your Blaster back together cause of the spring jumping out of its slot, simply just stick a screw driver in through the back of the blaster in between the plunger and the spring.

wow i'm really glad you showed how to pull off that gray piece really well, other guides i've read weren't exactly specific and i ended up destroying my turret on my maverick =[
Hey, I believe that mine is more modded than yours. I put tape around the plunger to compress the spring more, and eliminated the deadspace in the barrel where the air restrictors were. I also stretched the spring and made an increase in air speed (not air flow). Also, the video was very clear and concise, thank you for that.
Spectre is by far my favorite blaster

@psyk You are correct, It should be a frown, and I did forget the rail attachment piece, mostly because I sand off the whole rail attachment anyway. Thanks for the input.
@skillzskatehot pliers, or use the nail pulling side of the hammer. If you are talking about actually pulling the barrels into two pieces, then you should try teasing it open with a slim blade. Thanks for the comment
@pyr0buny wrong. it is still clearly a toy and the front is painted orange. And it is a fantastic fit in my holster. Without a doubt worth it.
@R4zr93 any empty space between thedart and plunger will limit your power. Air is compressable and loses pressure. The plastic disk is not compressable and good to have. Leave it in
@BananaPortal Yes, but I wouldn't ever suggest dry fireing a nerf blaster. It simply isn't a good idea to unleash force on the internals with nothing to dissipate it.

@babymonkey1245 dry fireing is cocking and shooting without a dart. Without the resistance the dart applys to the internals, there is more force internally.
I bought a Nerf Spectre rev-5 at Goodwill for $0.99 and it has some kind of problem where the cocking slider on top doesn't catch properly for some reason, and I was watching to see if somehow I could find out which piece was broken inside.. mine doesn't even have the large black spring on the back end that you removed and stretched; it has a thinner/weaker one inside the orange barrel that yours rested on.. is that spring supposed to be inside it? I'm also curious about how exactly the "catch" works, in case a piece maybe had broken off that I'm not seeing.
@BlurredFace just get a good toolkit with a diverse screwdriver assortment. they arent expensive and properly cared for, theyll serve for a lifetime
@R4zr93 superglue or epoxy to hold rod in place. be careful not to gloe anything else though

Since this vid is so old, I think you now know that you should NOT stretch the spring. It does give it more power at 1st, but then it becomes weaker and actually softer over time. You actually want to give it more compresssion force, like the penny mod for the marvick ;D

@adan95 I assure you I am not buff, I bench my body weight plus little more. Just keep at it with a hammer and I assure you it'll give before anything breaks.
Great mod. Only problem I've got now is that the barrel 50-60% of the time doesn't line of completely correct, so the dart either fires off, doesn't fire and jams the gun, or fires weak. Although I was having trouble getting the barrel open, so there were scratches to the plastic in the front. Any ideas on how to remedy the problem?
@hothead741 Pull back the pentagonal orange orange thing, then pull the barrel out. Now, pry the front of the barrel off using an either hammer or flat head screwdriver. Remove the rest of the screws on the back of the barrel and pull it apart. The air restrictors can easily be pulled off while the spring and three spike thing just falls out.

@TheBadBuffalo Had the same problem, the plunger was a little off, just make sure you seat it back in correctly. After you reseat it move your plunger back an forth to make sure its not catching on anything before you put it back together. hope this helps.
Tip: works as if modded when spring is stretched & u use streamline darts, if u don't want to get complicated

The only trouble I'm having is getting the center out of the air restricter plate but other than that I'm done so thanks for the step by step I'll put it together in a little bit
@SnakeAssault117 because it is an uneven extra inch or so. See my holster video and itll make sense why I take them off. Plus the acessories lose range and generally annoy me

Hey, did you notice that the metal rod within the revolving chamber has threads on one end? A good alternate solution for those who can't pry off the end would probably be to push the rod towards the front, then unscrew it somehow (possibly with needle-nosed plyers). Personally, I used the hammer to pry the thing off, definitely couldn't use my hands on this one.
@jackrunez then it may not be seated all the way. make sure everything is screwed back together tightly
My spectre is the epitome of weak. The impact of the dart makes more sound than the blaster itself.

Hello, I found my nerf guns after 10+ years. So wanted to upgrade this one. But unfortunately my arrows don’t come out when I shoot them. Can you help me out?

if u accidentally put the orange til on the metal rod before the front bit of the rotating barrel then how do u take it off again
Try watching with the subtitles on. You will soon be rolling on the floor laughing at the expense of whoever made the transcribing software.
the barrel extension looks boss and it makes it shoot way harder
Thanks Drac, before my Spectre shot about 20- 35ft and now it shoots about 40-50ft.

wonder if a brass barrel install wouldve helped the range plug the orange mod works maverick spring

Thanks for making my break my spectre. I rounded out the tip of one of the screws for the cocking part and that snapped. So now i have no nerf guns. Thanks man. Spent $50 for nothing

so older video doubt you'll see my comment, cause no nerf modders are responding to my questions about several mods I attempting atm. Trying to see if there is a way to put a 6-round cylinder in the Spetre Rev-5 planning on placing a 5k spring in mine
1. I think you put the back gray piece on back wards and 2. I just modded mine without the computer and the barrel doesn't come out so now I'm on attempt 2. hope this helped! :)
Ugh I tried unscrewing it but one of the screws on the cocking mechanism is stripped I tried fixing it but now its bent could I get sum help pz
Why remove the barrel attachment?
You can use that to attach more accessories, and its only about 2 centimeters long anyways.
UPDATE: Fixed my gun's problems. I would recommend only doing this if you know exactly what you are doing. I've noticed it shoots a little further and more powerful because of the mod.

I think you put the back plunger guard on upside down (the gray piece).
the spring thing i will probably do when i get one. air restrictor seems too fancy for some one who has never done a mode before
And to other points..
1. You didn't put the rail thingy back in
2. The thingy that goes on the back should look like a frown when you put it on correctly..
I did the mod exactly the way that you did, but the metal rod in the cylinder attached to the orange thingies is loose and moves back and forth when the gun is whole. Is there any way to fix that?
would it help to drill out the holes at the back side of the revolver so it is easier for the air to get in to the back of the dart??
Hi, thanks for the tutorial, your vids are the best. I just finished doing this to my spectre and I love the new range on it, however the mod's had one minor drawback I'm hoping maybe you can help me with. When I try to eject the barrel now it tends to catch on the front of the gun, and I have to rattle it around to get it out. It seems to happen if I have the gun tilted forward and not if it's tilted backwards.. Hope you can help, thanks!
Hey quick question . On the air restrict removal, why only cut off the peg from its base and put it back in? Why not just throw it away?

Do you have to keep that little orange ring in for the air restrictors? Or can I just take out the whole thing and leave it at that?
Is it possible for me to paint the gun while the parts are still inside the shell. Or doni have to take everything out first?
@codbandito I don't think so dude... I just stretched my spring and it fires waaaaay better now.
@noitcurtsnocnacnuD Nevermind, I actually managed to figure this out my self (and now I feel like a genius lol)
At the opposite end of the revolver drum is another orange peg with a spring under it. The pressure of removing the other peg crushed it, so the drum wasn't held together tightly enough. I removed the other peg and strethed the spring back out. Now it works like new again! :D
ok this is messed up. i looked up the internals and everything is in place and i did everything you said correctly. but when i screw everything back in, it won't cock and the trigger won't move! PLEASE HELP!!!!

my side arm is now more powerful than my main weapon, so I attached all of the things on my Spectre, and it is now my best gun
Yeah, this screwed my gun up and I won't have time to fix it for a week. Plus, one of my screws was stripped and I had tons of trouble with everything involving the revolving chamber
u should tape the orange stuff that holds the spring instead of stretching the spring cuz over time it will lose its power and instead of going back to original strength it will become a little lousier.
Hey Drac I have been thinking about getting the maverick or the spectre which one is better in your opinion ?
why do you cut out the center cause when i did it it just made it a lot worst because the air is just going into the dart's hollow center

@LordDraconical But the holes in the cylinder itself near the back are small enough to direct the air flow.
How do you take the hinges out of the barrel so you can paint them?
I couldnt get my open, because the long screw at the time that holds the cocking mechanism in place got stripped and i couldnt even get it out.
Question. Why don't we want to stretch the spring too much?
you can save the AR"s and cut the tips of your stream lines and put them on it gets about the same ranges but have more power and get some better flat shots atleast mein do...... thumbs up so he can se ps. it hurts allot more when shot. they are best shot with a nitefinder
