@@rahmatmanurung8133 I don't remember him being described as handsomein the book, but he might gave been. The attraction is treating people who traditionally are seen as "weaker" (that are aware of their place in the world) as your equal or even superior, no matter their gender. Although, he does seem to love to pick on men more. It doesn't mean that he's a good guy, it just means he's smart. Matt Smith was a perfect choice for this role. After Doctor Who, I saw him in The Crown and was stunned at his range between the 2 shows. Amazing actor.

I feel like Nettles will probably remind Daemon of Laena, and serve as someone as a "She reminds me of my lost love" kinda romance. Especially, if Nettle happen to look similar to Laena in some way in the show. She's already from Driftmark.
Laena was blonde with silver hair and violet eyes. Nettles was brown-eyed and had brown hair.

@@GFarrsight That is what makes the book good. It’s up for interpretation. There are different accounts on what happened and anyone can essentially decide on what the “truth” is in their eyes.

Nettles likely doesn’t have any Targ blood, she’s literally just taming dragons the same way the ancient Valeriyans did. I think she serves to show that Targs aren’t actually all that special
@@emilybarclay8831 why not? Not all people with Valyrian ancestry appear as such. And Targs are sort of special when it comes to bonding with their dragons also it is implied that ancient Valyrians did use blood magic to tame/bond with wild dragons
There's also the question of how a dockside whore's bastard daughter had enough money to buy a sheep every day for weeks on end to tame a dragon. It's not like Dragonstone is prime sheep country, it's mostly fishermen. She must have had some help and/or advice and/or money from someone. Someone who didn't provide those things to any of the other seeds who tried to tame Sheepstealer.

She is not Daemon's child. She was a daughter of some whore, and no one knows who is her father. Some Valerian probably.
i’m kind of hoping they’ll cast someone with darker skin for nettles since she’s canonically black. the other characters have really light skin. it would also be nice if she were daemon’s daughter or they’re platonic. but the writing & acting of her character is what’s most important.

I think he was semi-grooming her, but they also had synergy with their personalities. If you take out the romantic parts, then they are a close uncle niece pair.

I don't really buy the Daemon-Alicent rumor. Alicent is the very opposite of the type of women Daemon likes. She's a rulefollower, she's a hightower - a house that has close ties with the maesters and the faith of the seven (and we know the maesters al least don't like Daemon, and it might very well be a mutual feeling). I just can't see Daemon taking a fancy to Alicent, unless he wanted to spite Otto, but even then it's unlikely rulefollower Alicent would've risked it.
The main reason would be to duck with Otto and just generally put his dick everywhere

In terms of Nettles, I'm less inclined to believe that the "blood-stained leathers" line is in relation to sorcery. As someone who works with sheep, I can say that not only are they hard to control unless you "cast" them, but slitting one's throat would definitely cause a mess. However, Rhaenyra's line does give some sort of clue that Nettles may use magic. I guess we'll just have to see it in the show.
That was the impression I got too. Slaughtering is a messy business, especially when it's apparently the biggest sheep in the city. She definitely could still be using sorcery, but I'd hazard a guess at it being a little less Satanic Panic.

I like the idea of Nettles being his daughter.
One comment I have on Mysaria and the dragon egg is that I have always seen it less as Daemon seeing beyond class and race--since he hated Rhea for her First Men blood--and more of him wanting to have another dragon-rider wholly loyal to him. If he has a dragon-riding child that makes him far more of a threat, especially since Viserys has no dragon and I don't think Rhaenyra had yet claimed Syrax. Similarly, I saw Viserys refusing to give Mysaria the egg as him trying to get ahead of Daemon's plan. The Targs have always had problems with dragon-riding women marrying out of the house and possibly bringing dragons to other houses.

I haven't read Fire & Blood and have only learned a bit of the backstory, but after watching the first episode I would've assumed it was his selfishness and pride over all else. He resents being told what to do, and as someone who has to fight to earn his power & influence, he doesn't look down on others who are ambitious, even if they are lowborn. His child with Mysaria may be a bastard, but it's his child too, and he's a Targaryen prince-- of course the baby deserves its own dragon! Daemon is on a very Machiavellian path, from what I see, and he took the egg because he felt he deserved it and he knew it wouldn't be given to him freely. Meanwhile, Viserys and the small council would take the care and keeping of dragons very seriously, for all the reasons you've stated, and they would be shocked and outraged at Daemon's bold entitlement. A totally natural collision course of ideas about who has access to dragons and why, and there are many parallel tales in real-world history (the Tudors & the Duke of Monmouth come to mind).

So far - Aegon I, The Conqueror, holds a Targ sigil shield; Maegor the Cruel has Blackfyre; can't tell what Aenys I has and Jaeharys I, The Conciliator, holds a book? I know it's just kooky fan stuff, but I can't wait to see it better when the show starts!!

As a Brown girl and because I forever and always accept the Velaryons as Black as canon (or its ASOIAF-equivalent terminology), I have to say Laena is for sure my favorite of Daemon’s ladies. I’m loving the actress they cast for her and I can’t wait to see her in action. Nettles is, of course, a close second. I wonder if they’ll cast an actress similar in appearance to Laena’s actress for Nettles. Maybe, in show canon at least, part of Daemon’s initial attraction to her would be that she reminds him of Laena. Almost a second chance for that kind of love they had. Just a thought. Either way, I’m so excited!
Right on! And depending on how many black people live on Driftmark - like is it just Corlys’s family? Or is there an enclave of Summer Islanders or black Essosi there? Because the fact Nettles is a dragonseed and has brown skin means that non white people are running around Driftmark, even in George’s canon. Curious how Driftmark will be developed in general; they said we are going to see it a lot. Anyway yeah I like the change, I mean how many pale people in pale wigs can we even keep track anyway
You mean the velaryons are black? Or I mean they are supposed to be black? Or Middle East? I don’t think they are supposed to be anything. Just people. I also want to point out that the reason that the velaryons in the book have pale skin and white eyes with pale purple eyes is to distinguish them from others they are supposed to have a more “ other worldly” look. That’s it. But I love the house of the dragon regardless.
@crassgop they were not black. It's just for inclusiveness for the sake of diversity. Corlys were just the same as Targaryens. They were pale with silver hair and violet eyes.

We know for a fact Summer islanders frequently appeared at court for various reasons but we can safely assume that them being a prominnet feature in westeros would have incited LOTS of gossip and intrigue and were deemed exotic for sure. One passage speaks on a targaryen girl who was known for being freaky and she mentions that she would even like to shag with a summer islander remarking on his dark skin. The fact it was talked about in context with taboo behavior heavily suggests that it was not common to see dark skinned people around westeros

Velaryons and Targaryens share that same features, they were white, pale, had silver hair and violet eyes. Nettles was mixed since her mom was a whore and no one knows who was her father. She could look Indian/Arabic/brown asian, but we all know hbo will make her black.
Velaryons had marriages with Targaryens all the time, but Corlys is black, and his children look mixed. Why they couldn't cast mixed black for Corlys? Because HBO wanted to please black audience "look, we have all sorts of races! ". But asians will only play servants. Interesting logic.
Same logic as in the Witcher only Herrald is white. Everyone else is black for no reason. In medieval Poland. " It's a fantasy world, characters could be any race! ". Oh yeah, then why everyone is black. Literally no asians. The only Asian I remember was a servant. Who died in few seconds. I'm not against characters being black for no reason. I just don't understand this diversity for the sake of diversity. If you make characters black, then why their children are not asians and white? It's a fantasy world, no logic in anything! Then children of Corlys could be asians or white. Why they casted black children with white wigs. I hope actors are good, that's it. Mermaid is black too. Everyone is black. Anna Boleyn the queen is black too. It's just imagination and interpretation. Yeah, I understand.

I think Nettles is actually supposed to be one of Corlys' "bastard" children. Which makes the whole Daemon+Nettles=sexy time A LOT more palatable. And I truly think it just makes sense!! Of all his ladies, Laena seems like his one TRUE LOVE!! So, if Nettles is another daughter of Coryls....maybe he sees similar physical traits that first attracted him to Laena, and perhaps she has a similar attitude as Laena. Would make a lot of sense as to why Daemon seems to fall so hard for Nettles so quickly.

He even had the same maturation as Daemon in his older years. If you compare their character development from their youth to their old age there are striking similarities. 😂

Oh!! I wanted to ask you what you think about the book mentioning two things- that corlys visited the shadowlands of asshai, and how laena and daemon visited old Valyria ? Because GRRM (I’m quite sure) would not have mentioned those mystical places unless they were important to the behind the scenes things that were not in the books but that will be shown in the series (and I’m SURE since the long night was already mentioned and since we saw the dagger that killed the night king-that something involved in the magic of the HOTD show will show us implications for the later GOT series.) I’m worried about their efforts to connect the two stories and I hope they won’t overdo it. So far, so good, because the Targaryen history as laid out in the books is enough to stand on its own even though it’s technically a prequel. I just don’t want them to throw it together in its last season, but I’m sure they’re very aware that the fans have high standards. True GOT fans know that a lot of the fun is discussing theories and connections and we know that the pay off of storylines take a long time and we are OK with that as long as the narrative makes sense and isn’t rushed. Take your time, guys! Do it right!

I’m hoping that Nettles turns out to be a bastard of Daemon or someone else of import…... The thing is: we know that Daemon is GRRM’s fav character in the Targaryen family and in the show we are seeing how Otto Hightower talks so much shit about daemon and how daemon’s penchant for trying to get attention from his family in a way that the others of the realm disapproved of (they were right of course to be wary of him). However I think that Daemon is kind of like Jamie Lannister in that he doesn’t really care what all these other people say about him. He is bold and impetuous but he wasn’t a monster- he wasn’t like Joffrey and he’s not, at this point anyway, like Dany or Cersei at the end of GOT.
But I think the constant criticism eventually will get to him and I think he’s constantly underestimated and looked over and just wants to be involved in the realm bc he loves his family….. he’s a wonderful anti-hero.
