Politics was a really important thing and I think this will set it apart from GOT, even though politics was also important, we saw other things around the characters like adventure and magic. In this story we will see the dramas around this family, how politics influences their relationships and the bond that the family members form. I love them❤️

Brazilian fan here🇧🇷. As a reader of Fire and Blood by George RR Martin and quite picky regarding film and show adaptations, I'm considerably happy towards HBO gracing the fans with selecting the perfect cast for House of the Dragon. Let me emphasise that I'm utterly in love with Matt Smith as Daemon Targaryen because it seems that Matt Smith literally popped up from one of the pages of Fire and Blood, especially because I'm up to imagine bodies, faces and hairstyles based upon the point of view of the author, but not in austere way. Matt Smith captured the essence of the character beautifully as he shows the 'rogue' facial expression that I imagined for Daemon Targaryen. Steve Toussaint looks entirely fancy and beautiful as Corlys Velaryon! Emma D'Arcy is just pure perfection as Rhaenyra Targaryen because she delivers an expression that suits her character perfectly. I just cannot stress enough how perfect the entire cast is! Hopefully all the massive House of the Dragon fanbase here in Brasil will not break the HBO app and everybody here will be able to watch the first episode peacefully.
I agree! I also cant wait for Emma's acting down in the later seasons, when shit hits the fan. She has a magnum opus cut out for her. Like if this series succeeds, and she does a good job, she will become a superstar easily. The later scenes of Rhaenyra, especially after the Dance starts are gonna be insanely emotional
Thinking about it from playing the Doctor whose rage is at times so alien and scary to playing Prince Philip and his position as the Queens husband who never really has that sort of power...Matt Smith really does have the perfect cv to play a character as complex as Daemon.
@@kauanfranca2922 tbh I'm less interested in Emma and more in the character of Rhaenyra, who is a woman and is referred to as she/her. If you don't believe me, heres a quote from A Storm of Swords, Chapter 36, "...even Rhaenyra Targaryen. She was daughter to one king and mother to two more, yet she died a traitor's death for trying to usurp her brother's crown."
I almost want to say that I like House of the Dragons even more than the original GOT. But they are both so different, so that might not be a fair thing to say. But I absolutely loved this first episode, right out of the gate! The characters have a lot of complexity. Ever since Season 8 of GOT, I've become interested in the Targaryens and their history. It does seem to be a closer focus. Corlys Velaryon's robes and sigil are just beautiful and dignified. The show is just incredible.
@@shercyf6306 It's a prequel from the point of view of House Targaryen (you can see in the first episode some of the ancestors of the other Houses swearing fealty to the King on the Iron Throne), but also a sequel to the original GOT, I think? @@Ida-iu3uj thank you, I don't have HBO and can't see it. I only saw the short clips and was confused because Daenarys is the mad king daughter, and he's in the throne now. I thought it was a sequel, and they change the name of her character because of that.

i loveee this cast so much already the chemistry between them all is so strong already-- my favorite part of game of thrones is the politics and scheming so i think i'm going to love this show
I just don’t understand how actors don’t take advantage of source material. Corlys Velayron is so detailed in the Princess & the Queen and the Rogue Prince. Hopefully there are more legends like Christopher Lee who will care to read the books.
As an active reader myself, I can definitely understand where you're coming from, but there are also pitfalls to reading source material beforehand. As an actor, you might not always want to know what your character's arc is going to be from the jump. If your character faces surprises and revelations later in their story, you might not be able to pull off the emotions resulting from that in a genuine fashion if you already had that knowledge in the back of your mind from the get-go. I'd say source material really only has to be read by showrunners, producers, but most importantly, the directors and writers. If directors and writers haven't read the source material through-and-through, then it's an absolute failure of doing one's due diligence on the adaptation.
I think it depends on the actor and on the piece of media. Tv is different to books, it requires different work to get character across, and an actor might feel that if they read too much into the source material they're gonna get bogged down with how millions of people have already interpreted those book words into their own minds rather than just focussing on the character as written in the script.
I have actually read that book, way back in the day for fun...TWICE now and going for a third time. I am a HUGE Game of Thrones nerd and would have loved to have even been an extra in something like this! So well done and such a beautiful world he has created!

@@ianvera4299 Actually i prefer the earlier seasons because the main element is GRRM's way of telling the story the depth of its characters you know... I don't care about effects if it is empty inside. Seasons 1-4 was something else.
the cast speaking of the show’s main focus being mainly interhouse politics and dysfunctional family dynamics is definitely making me a lot more optimistic.
@@bjornerluffy Emma D'Arcy pronouns are they/them
@@mustafa-cx2fg Yhea true, sorry I forgot. When speaking about her female roles its kinda easy to mess up, as I would call Rhaenyra a her.
Everything Emma D'Arcy spoke about got me wayyyy more interested in the show.
They really sold it.
Thinking about it from playing the Doctor whose rage is at times so alien and scary to playing Prince Philip and his position as the Queens husband who never really has that sort of power...Matt Smith really does have the perfect cv to play a character as complex as Daemon.
Great to see Matt as lead role. really enjoyed his Doctor who ,it will be good to see how his new character evolves.
Wasn't too sure about them casting Emma when I first saw her, but after seeing this SHE IS RHAENYRA!!
My thoughts too!!
I think Emma uses they/them pronouns but yeah they are going to kill it as Rhaenyra
Facts. She has that Targ beauty and the face of someone you just don't want to mess with.
@@kauanfranca2922 tbh I'm less interested in Emma and more in the character of Rhaenyra, who is a woman and is referred to as she/her. If you don't believe me, heres a quote from A Storm of Swords, Chapter 36,
"...even Rhaenyra Targaryen. She was daughter to one king and mother to two more, yet she died a traitor's death for trying to usurp her brother's crown."
Same!! Their pronouns r they/them tho
Im a little confused this suppose to be a prequel or a sequel of the GOT? Also, the dragon queen is Rhaenyra on this show?
@@shercyf6306 It's a prequel from the point of view of House Targaryen (you can see in the first episode some of the ancestors of the other Houses swearing fealty to the King on the Iron Throne), but also a sequel to the original GOT, I think? Rhaenyra is a dragon princess right now, but she has been named heir by her father the king. He's got a son now though too.
@@Ida-iu3uj thank you, I don't have HBO and can't see it. I only saw the short clips and was confused because Daenarys is the mad king daughter, and he's in the throne now. I thought it was a sequel, and they change the name of her character because of that.
You're very welcome! It's really good - it was especially good last night, if a bit controversial. The costumes and sets are outrageously beautiful. I hope you do sign up for it, because it's not to be missed IMO.
@@Ida-iu3uj thanks
Emma D'arcy looks sooooo good in costume.
I hope that a lot more of the smaller houses are in the spotlight like the Blackwoods, the Corbrays, and the Manderlys for example
All those actually have pretty sizable roles in the story, especially the Blackwoods are gonna be sick. Tullys too.
@@bjornerluffy in what way? i haven’t read F&B, but I’ve been catching myself up on the lore as much as I can. What parts do they play?
A different house but the first northern host that fights is led by Roderick Dustin, who’s a total chad

The Blackwoods are a leading house of the Riverlands- they were pretty much hand-in-glove with the Tullys, in terms of their leadership- & they also (or, one character in particular...) have an impact right at the end of the war, as does House Stark...
@@myong2206 The Blackwoods boy who is orphaned after his father dies and his aunt became war heroes and the main commanders for the Riverlords who sided with Rhaenyra.
Benjicot Blackwood and the Tully twins were reffered to as "The Lads" because of their young age and became a pride of their men and lords.
The Corbrays end up marrying one of the surviving Targaryens, and he becomes the commander of the city guard.
Manderly serves as the final hand of the king during the post-war regency.
So its actually really funny that you mentioned all three of them, as they all got a part to play in the story.
Watch out for "Bold" Jon Roxton as well, who wields the valyrian steel sword "Orphan Maker"
At 4:46 That smile is genuine... she actually loves the whole Rhaenys and Meleys duet!
I really enjoy all of their observations. They seem very immersed into their character and know them well. It passes me at least very positive vibes about what the show will be
Emma looks stunning!
Emma plays with rings on fingers the whole time...just like Rhaenyra.
That's the first thing I noticed too!
Exactlyyyyyyy
OMGGGGG I DIDNT NOTICE THAT
I love the jewelry already
I reckon she picked up the habit having to do it so often for Rhaenyra.
Listening to the interview, I am getting a strong feeling, that this show is going to be very very good.
39 days left until the House of the Dragon premieres on Sunday August 21st on HBO. I can't wait.
I can’t wait
I can’t wait to see how the writers totally screw up the final season.
@@ohroonoko I have faith in this because the writers of the show actually have the whole story in it’s entirety to base it off of. Whereas the 2 writers of GoT showed that when they ran out of GRRM’s source material that they weren’t worth their salt on coming up with their own material that had substance. Just have to wait and see though but I’m optimistic towards this one

I absolutely love the Demon Targaryn and the actor playing him couldn't of picked a better actor. Iam stoked to see House of Rhe Dragon.
As a black man, I love the way make up has made certain tweaks to make these characters feel part of the world. Normally they just throw a dude in a period/fantasy costume as if they've just dragged him/her of the street.
This guy looks and feels part of the world.
As a fan of the GoT series I honestly can't see the comparison. I love both GoT and now Hotd. Everyone was chosen perfectly. Kudos to the casting team for finding all these amazing actors/actresses♥
This hairstyle fits Emma. Damn she's gorgeous. 😍

Matt seems to like Emma a lot he blushes every time they would laugh together. If only Emma is single and prefers Matt over Olivia then we'd have our dream targaryen parents.
Olivia casually speaking about wigs being ruined by blood 🤣
Eve's voice and expressions are so sweet when she talks about Meleys

i loveee this cast so much already the chemistry between them all is so strong already-- my favorite part of game of thrones is the politics and scheming so i think i'm going to love this show
I just don’t understand how actors don’t take advantage of source material. Corlys Velayron is so detailed in the Princess & the Queen and the Rogue Prince. Hopefully there are more legends like Christopher Lee who will care to read the books.
Well, he met Tolkien. So that is another point to why he read it.
I agree. I think it pays off in the performance.
Reading the books doesn't matter show runners are the ones calling the shots.
Matt Smith is the only reason I am willing to give this a try after the heartbreak of the last two seasons of GOT.
This cast is perfect.
I am so grateful to the person in charge of the cast. What a cast. And Emma is a gem
