This song is so perfectly in line with the valyrian lemurs theory that it's as close to a confirmation as I think we're going to get. It makes sense with the rest of the information we have about dragons and the dragonbond. It comes to mind the fact that Jaehaerys I allowed the sealord (?) who got the eggs stolen by Elissa Freeman in return for forgiving a debt owed by the iron throne to actually keep the eggs (that are likely Dany's eggs) when Essos is full of descendants of Valyrians. The only explanation is that Jaehaerys knew only Targaryens could bond with Targaryen dragons, not just anyone with valyrian blood. This theory is also in line with Dany's ritual: her son was "sacrificed" for her eggs to hatch so it's still someone with both dragonrider blood and a close blood relation to Dany even if it's not an ancestor. At that point, the Targaryens had already intermarried with outsiders too much, which may be a reason their eggs' stopped hatching after the dance despite their best efforts - the connection with the original (and therefore that dragon line) ancestor weakened, until Dany reawakened it. I also wonder if perhaps Aegon, the Unlikely's plan had been to sacrifice himself in a ritual in order to hatch those eggs at Summerhall, but things got out of control due to wildfire and sabotage by the maesters. Also, t wouldn't make sense for Daemon to randomly go off to sing to Vermithor for no reason, especially at that point in the story. It makes much more sense for him to be preparing Vermithor for bonding with a new rider (I believe he had Rhaena in mind at this point rather then any plan involving the dragonseeds since she's the only Targaryen currently without a dragon and she's his daughter - and she looked interested when he mentioned Vermithor and Silverwing. I do wonder why she for Morning to hatch instead of claiming one of the riderless dragons earlier).
i love that about Egg - that makes more sense to me than the idea he was planning to kill family members. He was going to become a dragon! Just like Aerys thought he could. Nice catch about Jaehaerys, that occurred to me as well
Daemon: So after I tried to sleep with my niece, my ex ratted me out to Otto. _Otto!_ Vermithor: raaaarggg Daemon: I know! I didn't even kill her to end the relationship! _So_ ungrateful
One of the reasons I love your videos is that you are one of the few commentators of HOTD who is excited about the prophecy rather than finding it an annoyance. Like bro we are getting back on track with having the prophecy in HOTD, getting back on track after the atrocity that D&D did to Game of Thrones. I don't know how other people don't see this.
@@DavidLightbringer can we talk of viserys rebelica of vaylaria I feel the dragon lords were more scientifc with magic then others or fma alchemy principle to it
I think some people might find it annoying that the prophecy ends in such an unsatisfactory way. I love hearing about the prophecy, though I do feel sad knowing how little it meant in the end. Of course, I'm expecting a more satisfying conclusion to all of the prophecies in ASOIAF in the books.
This adds legitimacy to the theory that cannibal is a dragon that did not come from the clutch of any dragon linked to the targaryens but may have been an egg left behind by ferrel dragons that may have used dragon stone before the Targaryens arrived. So though he might not be as old as Bailor, he is similar in age and size to Vagar. Cannibal cannot be domesticated because he was never linked to them
That is very possible! The Valyrians came to Dragonstone a hundred years before the Targaryens made it their home, so there could have been dragons there before the Targs
He did the same with Elden Ring, people are still theorizing all over the place even after months it came out and a lot of the lore fragments in ASOFAI is in it too
Maester Aemon’s “old and frail” comments take on a new meaning in this light too. Too late in his life he has solved the riddle of the dragon with three heads, and realised, bitterly, that he could have had children and sacrificed himself to restore the fortunes of his line. He’s too old and frail to travel with this knowledge, but also too old and frail to father children and perpetuate it.
Making direct eye contact with the Dragon seems to be very important part in this whole bonding ritual. In fact when Dany bonded with Drogon she was looking straight into his eyes and saw her reflection staring back at her. Which makes sense, the eyes are the mirror of the soul and reflect everything that seems to be hidden; and like a mirror, they also reflect the person looking into them.
This theory perfectly explains the Canibal. Assuming the idea that the Canibal was already on Dragonstone as a young dragon when the Targarreons arrived it was possibly hatched from an egg which was from a different family would explain why no one can ride the Canibal and why it hunts Targareon dragons because they are from a rival family. Which makes you wonder how violent family rivalries were in Valyria.
@@DavidLightbringer This could also mean their might be out there somewhere some dragon seeds in Essos from the Canibals family who could mount him. I don’t know the sex of the Canibal but if he’s male he’s the last of his line. If female it could mean clutches of eggs for truly wild dragons in the future
@@jamesbarron7512 i dont think after the doom other than Targaryens any dragonlord families left in the world even in last book Dany literally last dragonlord alive ofc we dont know if Faegon can bond or not but only dragonlord alive we are know is Dany
I’ve been a ASOIAF fan for a long time and follow most of The theory channels out there. And you stand up there with the best of them because you don’t just recap or discuss events… you find ways to enhance my understanding of the deeper universe GRRM has built even after all these years. I heard your explanation and I was like… omg why did I never consider HOW the OG valyrians bonded to dragons or why they practiced incest? Brilliant!
*The Valyrians didn't practice incest, The Targaryens did AFTER the Doom of Valyria to keep their bloodline "Pure"... if I'm not mistaken Incest was considered Taboo in Old Valyria as well. Meaning had the doom not happened Aegon likely would've been able to pair with another High Valyrian Woman instead of his 2 sister-wives (:/)*
@@AlexLopez-vm7uq the valyrians most certainly practiced incestual bonds .. they were obsessed with keeping bloodlines pure way before the targaryens came to westeros.
But (@Alex Lopez) wrote it all in *BOLD* , so they must be right! (or *wrong and need to make their writing bold to compensate* = Style over Content). From A Wiki of Ice and Fire: Incest in Essos: "In the Valyrian Freehold, it was custom among the dragonlords to marry brother to sister, or, if that was not possible, an uncle to a niece, or an aunt to a nephew. However, this was not often practiced by those who were not from dragonrider families." So, not ALL Valyrian families practiced incest. But those families that rode dragons did. = Just like David Lightbringer said in this video.
@@AlexLopez-vm7uq This is incorrect. The Valyrians that had dragons practiced incest. (Dragonstone was colonized BEFORE the Doom of Old Valyria. Dragonstone had been colonized and fortified as the westernmost outpost of the Valyrian Freehold. Incest in the 40 dragonrider families was already a thing BEFORE the Doom.) If Aegon just wanted ANY noble Valyrian to marry, there were still other Valyrian families around after the Doom (for example, the previously non-dragonriding Valyrian family of House Velaryon of Driftmark --- and House Celtigar of Claw Isle are of Valyrian decent). The Velaryons of Driftmark and House Celtigar occupied their islands BEFORE Dragonstone, and before Aegon's Conquest. They are both recognized as noble houses, but they did not originally have dragons.
The Valyrian lemur picture was super adorable and did not give me the impression they would bathe me in fire and blood. I wasn’t intimidated but I did wike their wittle faces
F*cking amazing on Matt Smiths part, because he sang that song like he was genuinely speaking a language he's spent his whole life speaking. There's parts where it sounds like he's just absent mindedly singing, it sounds completely naturally and casually, the same way I sing Livin On A Prayer while I'm cooking or whatever. Does that make sense? I just smoked a _bunch_ of joints so I can't tell
This theory can also work for Dany birthing the dragons. When she burned Rhaego on the pier she may have accidentally “soul-stuffed” her son into the dragons, making the dragons the spirit of her child. She did say that the dragons were her children.
The ‘Three heads of the Dragon’ theory is probably my favorite mysteries/theories in asoiaf, ever since the episode and the translations for Daemon’s songs have come out I have been waiting for your take on it! Not gonna lie, I really feel like this is probably the best interpretation and theory of what the ‘Three heads of Dragon’ is supposed to mean, it makes way too much sense!
I think Daemon being able to sing to Silverwing and Vermithor may have been what prepared them for new riders, as opposed to having been ridden before as the Maesters say.
It's very interesting to me that Daemon has drunk so deeply of the Targaryen Kool-Aid when it comes to dragon magic, yet he's immediately (violently!) dismissive of the dreaming. I imagine it's because dragons are a tangible power whose benefit to him is obvious - what has a dream done for him lately? And yet without the dreaming, Aegon's conquest wouldn't have happened at all. He's "incomplete" as a Targaryen because he rejects that side of their magical nature. Almost as if he's missing a head.
@@zelbernil3790 I agree. Jealous that Viserys didn't trust him with the prophecy (or with the responsibility of being Hand, or with his daughter's hand in marriage, or as his heir), and also jealous that it's a form of Targaryen magic he does not possess. An unworthiness complex he overcompensates with dragons and other demonstrations of power while telling himself the dreams never mattered in the first place.
I think he was in denial, and mad at the situation he was put with the betrayal of the greens, death of his brother and unborn child, than to learn his brother never meant him to be king, it was a bad day for him and his a very emotional person
@@The-Doctor6969 Funny you should say that, because this whole line of thinking started when I asked myself what could drive Daemon from Rhaenyra's arms to Nettles'.
Great video. The Valyrian lemurs theory also somewhat matches the story with Azor Ahai's sacrifice of Nissa Nissa, with Azor Ahai representing the dragonfamily, Nissa Nissa being the sacrificed family ancestor, and of course Lightbringer being the dragon.
Oh nice, that essence transfer bit makes sense. Kinda makes the “wake dragons from stone” bit makes a bit more sense too if they’re essentially bio-golems powered by skinchanging ancestors. A song being an allegory for magic and spells also fits with the theme established in the series name (and its Tolkien allusion.) Big Dune vibes with ancestral possession and other-memory too. Curious how this implicates Rhaego as actually being the stallion who mounts the world (at least his consciousness.)
I've always loved this theory! I think you're absolutely spot on, and it makes much more sense for what's coming up. Vermithor and Silverwing haven't been ridden since the old king died half a century ago. They're old, sleepy, grumpy, not too keen on accepting new riders. I've always been curious about the wild dragons and how the seeds were able to mount them, I REALLY hope we get more lore on that in season 2!!
That was a really cool analysis of Daemon's song. I love that idea of it being a spell because it's such a subtle but important show of how magic shows up through the series. Sometimes it's not huge displays, but in really small gestures. In a way it kind of reminds me of how some folk magic is practiced where it's much more of an everyday thing and not a big ritual. Though there can definitely be ritual to it. I could also see it fitting with the way Dragon Dreams appear in the story. Where the dreams themselves are magical, but they aren't always huge events, but they still carry an impact. The same way that the song is magical, and while it's not a huge event in of itself, its use for dragon bonding is massively important! Really enjoy the breakdowns of the smaller details that I missed before. Thank you! : D
When Damon came in singing a lullaby, which of course is lyrics and poetry, I was so hoping you would do a literary analysis of that scene, that poem, that beautiful crafted mythology of GRRM… well done, as always
This is genius. I love the theory. Makes a lot of sense to me and I've been watching all of your videos for months now. A Song of Ice and Fire is probably the greatest unfinished story ever written.
Reading a bit further into the Lemuria festival (because Ancient Rome), it seems some suggest that this evolved into All Saints Day when the Pantheon in Rome was consecrated to Saint Mary and the martyrs. And I can't get over the visual resemblance, at least on the show, of the Dragonpit to the Pantheon, including its distinctive domed ceiling. Maybe a connection by coincidence, but you never know with George.
Long time lurker, first time commenting; I love the theory! I couldn't wrap my head around how they're supposed to be Blood of the Dragon without there being literal dragon [redacted] with Valyrians. This is much, much better. Thanks for another excellent video!
I have little different interpretation of the song, I think this is the description of the original blood ritual performed. The two that sings to the third is the two human, to the one dragon they were about to bind So when the price is paid than one of the two humans was sacreficed and as the song continues the binding takes hold The last lines I really like because it suggest that being sacreficed as a dragon binder isn't a sad occasion for a Valyrian They will fly with their children and the children of their children... beautifully, freely Thanks for the nice vid
If his theory on how valyrians tamed dragons is true it would makes sense that there were only forty families in Valyria that could ride dragons. Members of those 40 families were sacrificed and by doing so have their descendants immense power.
Damn. I was skeptical at the beginning of this and now I’m fully on board. I love the way you explain theories from start to finish in such an easy to grasp way
I've never read any of the books so I decided to come here to learn more after starting HOTD. And WOW, I love learning about all this deeper meaning that the average viewer would miss.. Thank you so much for all your hard work!!
Absolutely love having you back on the mystic arts of Westeros/Essos!! Great essay, I feel like it would make sense to think Jahaerys himself taught this spellsong to Daemon when he was a kid (in love with the idea of being a dragonrider, in opposition to Viserys's rejection to the idea) kinda like the bond Daemon has with his dragonrider daughter.
I absolutely love your channel. I normally put videos to fall asleep because I suffer from tinnitus and so I need noise to help me sleep. I randomly woke up to your voice talking about the “netherlips” of Aerea and I thought “this sick bastard” because I didn’t understand the context. I listened to it more and I realised you were talking about the history of the Targaryens. I now watch your videos on my way to work. You’re an amazing human!
After the most recent episode this theory seems even more justified. The dragon keepers are singing to prepare seasmoke for the binding ritual to ser darklyn
This theory also makes the Targaryen motto way cooler. The “Fire and Blood” not just being like “we bring fire and blood wherever we go” but also “our reign comes from bounding fire with our own blood” or maybe “fire and black magic”
I always thought that Dany's dragons are literally the reincarnated people she names them after (Drogon being Drogo etc). You put it all together so nicely!! I would honestly be surprised if this theory wasn't the case, this just makes too much sense.
Now that you explained it, it's everywhere! It fits the sphinx riddle (which always facinated me) so well. And the Targaryen sigil is literally ONE dragon with THREE heads!!
This was excellently done, this might be the most compact theory yet, a neat little package in the form of 20 minutes on youtube. Deftly done good sir.
Whenever someone brings up the mythological lemures, I am always reminded of a Magic The Gathering card called Hyalopterous Lemure, which was supposed to be a scary ghost but the artist drew a picture of a lemur because he did not realize Lemure and Lemur were two different things. 😄😄
Oh my, it all makes sense now! 😍 I felt there was magic behind it but couldn't pin from where and why. So beautiful! 🐉 💚 "Oh yes, I remember when that song was in" Aww!! We need a comic all about the Dragons and their thoughts ❤
My friends and I have been talking for a while and developing a whole thing about the importance of Eyes in this story. All the little references and lines in the book. Your videos obviously helped with that lol. But, I also see the third head as related to the three eyed Raven. The third eye is the eye of truth and of seeing “more”. I feel like the three heads combining , some truth is revealed. Also, I think about how Bloodraven told Bran that there were Children in all of the ravens , so I see that the same way as spirits or a spirit being in the dragons. I hope that makes sense
Ohhhh the whole sacrifice thing makes so much sense to me!!! I've never heard of this theory before!! So when Egg presumably starts the fire at summerhall? So would this also theoretically be why Drogon is like Drogo etc?
George always said it was a magical event that enabled Dany to hatch her dragons but if the eggs were the 3 Allysa Farman stole they would be from Dragonstone and within Danys line of dragons. Maybe the prophecy Rhagar, Egg and others were chasing to bring back dragons was all confused with this. Like they knew it would take blood magic but the knowledge was lost along the way.
Love the theory, although personally I think that the third "head" is the soul of one of the unborn Targaryen children, that would be transported into one of the dragon eggs. I think that explains Rhaenyra's visions when she was birthing the stillborn baby.
I absolutely loved this video. I'm a big fan of lemurs. I loved your ideas about three heads of the dragon and the sphinx is the riddle. I always felt there was more to those saying than the obvious. BTW, I joined your discord as a squisher.
Ink spilled!? Your funny! I was rewatching an ep of GOT last night and noticed in the scene when Drogon flew back to Dragonstone with Dany and Jon put his hand on Drogon’s nose, the camera zoomed in on Drogon’s eye. It reminded me of Daemon and Vermithor.
It makes sense that Daemon checks on the riderless dragons to prepare them for new ones! By interacting with them now and then is great, and it truly was a beautiful moment! I didn't care much what he was singing about, but finally seeing the translation and the possible meaning of them was very interesting, and I think you're right! It has a dark origin, but I like it dark! Speaking of theories, I have had thoughts recently which I would like to share with you or anyone else who reads this comment! It will have some spoilers for upcoming seasons of HOTD, assuming some here have not read Fire and Blood. So... I think Aegon the Conqueror's dagger actually was passed down to his oldest grandchild, Rhaena, which later would marry her brother anyhow. There must be a deeper meaning behind why Aegon cried when he first held her in his arms. I think Rhaena was a dreamer as well, just like him, for she was the first rider of Dreamfyre. She also was meant to be Queen, wed to the one that was meant to have been Aegon II, but he died, and Rhaena didn’t have other children than her twin daughters and her bloodline ends there. I see a similar pattern here with Helaena in the way that she married Aegon II, had children, but the bloodline ended there, but her sister’s children made theirs continue, just like Rhaena’s younger brother and sister’s did. When Jaehaerys became king, she gifted him that dagger. That would sort of explain one of the reasons visiting The North. Jaehaerys eventually gave the dagger to Viserys who wished to give it to his son one day. Why not giving it to his daughter to begin with was because that in the year of 101 it was decided that no heir would be a woman, but he ended up naming her heir anyways. Now, Dreamfyre’s riders were both dreamers. But since the Conqueror was a dreamer himself, maybe Balerion choose other dreamers as his riders as well! Maybe his first rider was Daenys the Dreamer herself! Maybe Aerea was a dreamer! He took her to Valyria maybe because she reminded him about his first rider? So he wanted to show her what happened to Valyria after the Doom? Balerion later chose Viserys, that too was a dreamer. But I don’t think Maegor was much of a dreamer… But maybe the dragon himself was sort of a dreamer? That he chose Maegor because he sort of knew what needed to happen? Also, could he be the father of Dreamfyre, making him Drogon, Viserion and Rhaegal’s possible grandfather? Dragons for yet another dreamer! And then we have Rhaegar, which too could be a dreamer, having seemingly a similar pattern like Rhaena and Helaena in the sense that his children with Elia were killed. His brother’s line too was ended, leaving Daenerys. Rhaegar’s line too survived, but only because he followed prophecy. Dany gave birth to dragons! She’s Drogon’s rider! The dragon which is called ”The Black Dread Come Again” and Daenerys is like Daenys come again! She’s in the east but she should venture west! I really hope my thoughts are proven correct! That would be cool! But I would not be mad if I’m proven wrong either. What do you think?
To add on what I earlier wrote (spoilers!), The Pact of Ice and Fire between Jacaerys and Cregan Stark would not be fulfilled in their lifetime, but it was somewhat fullfilled with Rhaegar and Lyanna! Maybe it’s meant that a ”dragon” is needed in The North!
If Valyrians intermarry to keep control over specific lines of dragons, then why was Jaehaerys so worried about the stolen eggs. If someone were to even hatch them they wouldn't have been able to control them without the Targaryen ancestor.
I think the Targaryens are literally part dragon. There’s so much talk of the blood of the dragon. Plus there are several mentions of Targaryen miscarriages with scales, tails and wings. Also their resistance to heat.
One thing this also help to explain: why no one was able to bond with the Cannibal. If he is from another line of dragons, as the people of Dragonstone claim, then he would never be able to have a bond with any Targaryen nor dragonseed. I wonder if you have to sacrifice a mother. I get the feeling Daenerys was in some sense reborn by the sacrifice. In the end, she wanted to awake three dragons. And she burnt Mirri Maz Duur, and Khal Drogo, and herself. Or perhaps: it is Rhaego she gave as an offering to along with both Drogo and the witch. And then she is reborn, mother of dragons, a bit of her inside of everyone of them. Perhaps the sacrifice only gives life. And the waking of dragons requires a bit of her souls ro impregnate into the awakened dragons.
If Demon knew about this ceremony / song , how he didn't know about the prophecy of the prince/ princess who was promised ?! I don't think it's make sense
@davidlightbringer , This is a wonderful video! I have not read the books for this part of the series but I have an art historical and mystical background. When I watched this the first time and I saw Dameon go into the cave singing I knew right away it was a dragon rider binding spell that Dameon was singing. I just did not know the translation, but when I saw the dragons eyes looking in to Dameon's I was like OMGS this confirms what I suspected all along that the dragons are the Valyrian's deceased ancestors in some way. I did not understand how exactly they did this magic but then I remember Khal Drogo's funeral. Yet this makes me think on your YI-Ti and Asahi videos where this magic would not have been common knowledge to the at the time of the great empire of the dawn. Only a select few would have known and most likely this was first taught at that empire of the dawn. In the first place because in the first book of the "A Game of Thrones" I keep thinking about one of the dragon dreams Danny has. The one where "she wakes the dragon" again but she see's her ancestors with different colored eyes telling her to wake the dragon and she spurts out wings on her back. Which I caught that they were the rulers of Yi-Ti before its downfall from the world of Ice and fire book. I wonder if the first emperor of Yi-Ti was the first dragon ancestor because of this video has me thinking and also how his passing is written in that book in such a way where it says he goes into the sky or heavens upon his passing. Looking at the last stanza of this song made me think of this and I suspect that is what happened to him and the empress of the dawn. I am not sure how she fits in to this part of the dragon has three heads and ancestral dragon binding part. I can only wonder or maybe something will be revealed about her in a similar form in season two.
Getting some holy trinity vibes from this. The valyrian ancestor spirit as the intermediary between the two beings. Perhaps more of an "Unholy Trinity".
I absolutely love this channel. Endlessly entertaining. I don't think GRRM follows that mystic layered thinking at all, but LML's view on the material is amazing, and goes to show collaborative creation is a thing of beauty.
I had to come back and watch this again. Brilliant. I always feel like I’m seeing something more or have an understanding that there is something deeper to what I’m reading/seeing/hearing. I get pieces of the puzzle but once I come to see what you found you fill in the missing pieces. The sphinx thing drove me crazy every time I read the books. I read Aemon’s death bed words over and over and over knowing there was something really important there. Like the 2 kings first the father and then the son so they both die kings thing. It’s good to know I’m not alone is going a little nutty thinking about little clues leading to big ideas. Ugh.. this whole video is great. /nerding out
I think your theory about the ancestor's soul it's an elegant solution to how Valyrians became able to control dragons in the first place. I like it. To me, in Daemon's song the third head is Caraxes. Remember, he says "through my voice the fires have spoken", meaning I have already bonded one dragon. The "words of flame" to me refers to the required bonding ritual (some kind of spell), and the "clear eyes" mean he is somehow temporarily "masking" his bond to Caraxes in order to bond Vermithor too. I say this because going back to the show when Jon bonds Rhaegal it happens through intense eye contact as well.
This theory has blown my mind. The lemurs. It makes sense. It's perfect. So, is this part of the "song" in a song of ice and fire? Does Rhaegar's harp fit in somehow?
This theory seems weirdly reminiscent of the Asshai Azhor Ahai myth. A Dawn Empire dweller sacrifices a family member into the dragon, Lightbringer, binding her dragon lineage to the Valyrians descended from this Bad Guy Azhor Ahai. The Bloodstone Emperor mayhaps, shoving the Amethyst Empress' spirit, into dragon Lightbringer, maybe having her eat Amethyst, the way Rhaenyra gets eaten by her brother Aegon's dragon Sunfyre (or Bloodstone used their father's spirit). Before this blood rite, dragons were bonded with many more of the Dawn Empire's people, those who alchemically bioengineered them using meterors, until the First Valyrian bound most dragons to his lineage, monopolizing dragon power.
As much as I LOVE the new show and all of your videos I’m super excited to get back to all the symbolism we have had to put to the side for the show analysis (I love all your videos but the symbolism stuff is what brought me here) ❤
Great video, David! This is exactly the content I subscribed for! Like you, I heavily agreed with the decision to show the dragons as being unable to be completely controlled in the season finale of HOTD. This does, however, cause a lot of questions about the ancestor theory that you talk about here. What type of war is going on inside a dragon that also possesses an ancient spirit of Valyrian descent to follow its instincts instead of the commands of its rider? Very interesting theory that keeps the discussion going! Thank you!
Seven hells David…you never fail to spit absolute fire. The kind of fire that binds every microcosm of the books to the mysterious but sturdy foundations of GRRM’s imagination. The absolute SENSE you’ve proposed here melts my brain🙂
Fantastic and imaginative analysis, as always! I suspected the song had a much deeper history than the Conquerors, but your insight was truly eye opening. Now, I need to know this: where does King Julian fit in all this?!?! 😄
Bro, I just wanted to say this was a great video, really brought me back to the 'Blood of the other' series from back in the day... just like the kind of theory that gives me chills,, really great stuff. I don't know if these things will end up as cannon, but the fact that some of your ideas might eventually pay off in the books is just so thrilling because of how it would make many of the threads planted so transcendent and such effective symbolism... great great video lightbringer!
I think they assume the magical aspects are shallow for some reason.
What an amazing mind for Martin to weave a world with so much room to theorize like this.
He did the same with Elden Ring, people are still theorizing all over the place even after months it came out and a lot of the lore fragments in ASOFAI is in it too
Daemon has to be the best dragon rider we've seen so far, dude knows his shit.
Idk if you know what happens in the books. But you are correct, he is the quinnessential dragon rider for the whole series
One is never too old to bust a nut , that is a proven fact
100% great comment
@@DavidLightbringer This could also mean their might be out there somewhere some dragon seeds in Essos from the Canibals family who could mount him. I don’t know the sex of the Canibal but if he’s male he’s the last of his line. If female it could mean clutches of eggs for truly wild dragons in the future
@@jamesbarron7512 i dont think after the doom other than Targaryens any dragonlord families left in the world even in last book Dany literally last dragonlord alive ofc we dont know if Faegon can bond or not but only dragonlord alive we are know is Dany
@@jamesbarron7512Dragons are hermaphrodites, according to GRRM. Meaning any of them can in theory lay clutches.
@@AlexLopez-vm7uq I don't think this is correct
But (@Alex Lopez) wrote it all in *BOLD* , so they must be right! (or *wrong and need to make their writing bold to compensate* = Style over Content).
From A Wiki of Ice and Fire: Incest in Essos:
"In the Valyrian Freehold, it was custom among the dragonlords to marry brother to sister, or, if that was not possible, an uncle to a niece, or an aunt to a nephew. However, this was not often practiced by those who were not from dragonrider families."
So, not ALL Valyrian families practiced incest.
Incest in the 40 dragonrider families was already a thing BEFORE the Doom.)
If Aegon just wanted ANY noble Valyrian to marry, there were still other Valyrian families around after the Doom (for example, the previously non-dragonriding Valyrian family of House Velaryon of Driftmark --- and House Celtigar of Claw Isle are of Valyrian decent).
The fact that the show even gets near theories like this honestly shows how invested the writers are as well. Can't wait for season 2!
George is heavily involved as well. I wouldn’t watch if he wasn’t, not after what happened to GOT
And here is the season 2... A huge disappointment :(
F*cking amazing on Matt Smiths part, because he sang that song like he was genuinely speaking a language he's spent his whole life speaking. There's parts where it sounds like he's just absent mindedly singing, it sounds completely naturally and casually, the same way I sing Livin On A Prayer while I'm cooking or whatever. Does that make sense? I just smoked a _bunch_ of joints so I can't tell
Edibles, here lol I love Daemon!!! 😍😍😍
There is something about THC huh
@@gandalfdengra5580 sure is...just can't remember what
He seemed to absorbed a lot of the language. He even spoke it perfectly on a late night talk show.
Hold on - you’re singing ‘living on a prayer’ casually? You’re not screaming it like you’re headlining Glastonbury? 😂
This theory can also work for Dany birthing the dragons. When she burned Rhaego on the pier she may have accidentally “soul-stuffed” her son into the dragons, making the dragons the spirit of her child. She did say that the dragons were her children.
I like that theory.
Oh you've got a point there, or maybe he's just jealous he wasn't informed.
Nettles: let me introduce myself
Curious how this implicates Rhaego as actually being the stallion who mounts the world (at least his consciousness.)
bio-golem is such a cool term thank you
Maybe if Vhagar gets a song she'll realize she's no longer in Dorne!
Lol
FOR MERAXEEEEEEEEEEEEEES
I've always loved this theory! I think you're absolutely spot on, and it makes much more sense for what's coming up. Vermithor and Silverwing haven't been ridden since the old king died half a century ago. They're old, sleepy, grumpy, not too keen on accepting new riders. I've always been curious about the wild dragons and how the seeds were able to mount them, I REALLY hope we get more lore on that in season 2!!
They never killed people who tried either right? If I remember correctly. This explains it better than just ohhh they’re sweethearts
The two that sings to the third is the two human, to the one dragon they were about to bind
So when the price is paid than one of the two humans was sacreficed and as the song continues the binding takes hold
The last lines I really like because it suggest that being sacreficed as a dragon binder isn't a sad occasion for a Valyrian
They will fly with their children and the children of their children... beautifully, freely
Thanks for the nice vid
So much seems to have been lost when Daemon died. You wonder how much he taught Baela
Daaang this was good!! I really felt like the three head meaning Aegon & wives was just too simple
I love ur analysis, it makes more sense to what the Rouge Prince was singing all about.
I always thought that Dany's dragons are literally the reincarnated people she names them after (Drogon being Drogo etc). You put it all together so nicely!! I would honestly be surprised if this theory wasn't the case, this just makes too much sense.
Yes, I think so too!
That would explain why Rhaegal is always going off to burnt out ruins with his harp
@@made-line7627 😆
Rhaegal could be Rhaego instead of Rhaegar, too
Which makes it reasonable that Drogon blamed the Iron Throne for destroying Daenerys.
When I heard this I immediately felt like it was some sort of Magic spell... TY so much for the great content 👏🏼
The genius it takes to make a coherent language from virtually nothing is mind blowing

Your channel rocks! You, Quinn, Preston, History of Westeros are why the internet rules
Now that you explained it, it's everywhere! It fits the sphinx riddle (which always facinated me) so well. And the Targaryen sigil is literally ONE dragon with THREE heads!!
You have blown my mind yet again David. I have been a subscriber for years now and I have always wondered how you figure these things out?? Genius 😲👏
Oooh it didn't disappoint! I knew you could put it all together. It makes so much sense with what we know about the prophesy and and blood magic!
Great video. I can’t consume enough of your content. Keep up the good work.
You're so intelligent. All the research, links and extra information you have on symbolism etc. It's amazing! Thank you so much 😊
This was excellently done, this might be the most compact theory yet, a neat little package in the form of 20 minutes on youtube.
🤣🤣🤣
Oh my, it all makes sense now! 😍 I felt there was magic behind it but couldn't pin from where and why. So beautiful! 🐉 💚
"Oh yes, I remember when that song was in" Aww!! We need a comic all about the Dragons and their thoughts ❤
yeah if I'm right about this it's a pretty fantastic job of the show using ASOIAF deep lore to give the show more... well, depth.
Although Drogo's not Valyrian, he's bound to Dany tho. I dunno...
@@zelbernil3790 but his ancestors are
@@zelbernil3790 Drogon
How do you mean Drogon is like Drogo ? It was a blood sacrifice by 3 for 3 dragon's
Love the theory, although personally I think that the third "head" is the soul of one of the unborn Targaryen children, that would be transported into one of the dragon eggs. I think that explains Rhaenyra's visions when she was birthing the stillborn baby.
It would also make dying/stillborn Targeryan children to actually be a feature, not a bug. They need those miscarriages to bind dragons.
Very happy to see Lemur Theory get a dedicated video! Great work as always 🤘
I absolutely loved this video. I'm a big fan of lemurs. I loved your ideas about three heads of the dragon and the sphinx is the riddle. I always felt there was more to those saying than the obvious. BTW, I joined your discord as a squisher.
I’ll look for you!
It would be great if George explained this bond through Euron trying to replicate this with krakens. An ironborn version of this song would be badass
The ironborn have the Blood of the Squishers!
Been waiting for this one. 80k baby!! Been a bit lazy but going to go back and comment on all your past vids dude. Amazing content thank you David 🤜🏻🥳
This is my favourite YT Channel. Keep doing good work
Going deep into the mystery, this was great analysis.
This is what keeps me tuning in each week , Thanks David.
I love the beginning of the song - "Fire breather / winged leader". It's pretty epic
It is indeed and very much so metal af
Lemur theory? You, Sir, have my undivided attention.
If Valyrians intermarry to keep control over specific lines of dragons, then why was Jaehaerys so worried about the stolen eggs. If someone were to even hatch them they wouldn't have been able to control them without the Targaryen ancestor.
I love this damn channel so much I swear 😭

I don't think it's make sense
Only LML would have even MORE excellent content when a show ends and everyone else calls it quits. You’re the best!!
I have been explaining it as blood magic but I didn’t have the whole picture figured out. Brilliant.
I'm so mad your season 1 review is starting at the exact time I need to sit a 3 hour long exam
It will be there for you when you are Dune, and good luck!
Getting some holy trinity vibes from this. The valyrian ancestor spirit as the intermediary between the two beings. Perhaps more of an "Unholy Trinity".
You’re knowledge of this stuff is pretty impressive. Enjoyed the video. Thanks for explaining it all so well.
I absolutely love this channel. Endlessly entertaining.
I don't think GRRM follows that mystic layered thinking at all, but LML's view on the material is amazing, and goes to show collaborative creation is a thing of beauty.
That was brilliantly worked out David . Your theory makes so much sense , your knowledge of this worlds is unsurpassed 😊
I wonder if Mirri Maz Dur had kids. It'd be rad to see some Lamb folk riding descendents of Dany's dragons in like 300 years.
This is amazing theory. It makes so much sense! Going to read books once more considering all of this information!
This theory hits even better with the addition of the tapestry in season two showing the sacrifice to the dragon at the beginning
One of your classic, add to the Valyrian list. Your dragon voice of Vaghar and Vermithor was hilarious.
/nerding out
I needed this right now. Thank you 🙏
I think your theory about the ancestor's soul it's an elegant solution to how Valyrians became able to control dragons in the first place.
IDK about the harp but yeah this is the song of Fire alright
@@DavidLightbringer rhaegar singing was effective as sauron song battle against finrod
Before this blood rite, dragons were bonded with many more of the Dawn Empire's people, those who alchemically bioengineered them using meterors, until the First Valyrian bound most dragons to his lineage, monopolizing dragon power.
this sounds like a slightly-scrambled version of all my theories
As much as I LOVE the new show and all of your videos I’m super excited to get back to all the symbolism we have had to put to the side for the show analysis (I love all your videos but the symbolism stuff is what brought me here) ❤

Thanks to this video I went on a 3 hour binge of slender loris and lemur videos. Did you know the slender loris is the only venomous primate?
Great video, David! This is exactly the content I subscribed for!
Like you, I heavily agreed with the decision to show the dragons as being unable to be completely controlled in the season finale of HOTD. This does, however, cause a lot of questions about the ancestor theory that you talk about here. What type of war is going on inside a dragon that also possesses an ancient spirit of Valyrian descent to follow its instincts instead of the commands of its rider? Very interesting theory that keeps the discussion going! Thank you!
think about how a skinchanger becomes lost in the animal. I'd have to think the dragon is the boss - the winged leader

Seven hells David…you never fail to spit absolute fire. The kind of fire that binds every microcosm of the books to the mysterious but sturdy foundations of GRRM’s imagination. The absolute SENSE you’ve proposed here melts my brain🙂
George is a genius! And your commentary is brilliant!
Fantastic and imaginative analysis, as always! I suspected the song had a much deeper history than the Conquerors, but your insight was truly eye opening. Now, I need to know this: where does King Julian fit in all this?!?! 😄
