Not every night. Some dreams she might not remember and I imagine they weren't all as bad as the last one, they likely got progressively worse as the nightmare monsters accumulated in her pillow and reached this breaking point
There's actually an explanation of what she was dreaming about in the bonus sections of the manga. I suggest checking it out! The Nightmares feed off of the emotions a person experiences while dreaming. She slowly had less and less emotional response to the good dreams and more to the nightmares.
Cat girl is here! The shots and sound design of her eating are perfect. Her tongue click sound after each bite is my favorite. They did a stellar job with her.
I think the two halves fit fine together. Look, the scene where Izutsumi dropped those mushrooms and it cut to everyone's reaction before settling on Senshi was so tense. Felt more horror there than I did in the second half ;)

8:55 I interpreted this scene to indicate that Marcille sees the grimoire as a perfect solution to end her fear, and that she doesn’t fully understand how the grimoire works yet. She doesn’t have the knowledge to visualize a realistic spell from the book, so her imagination filled in the blanks by having her wield it as a weapon that made the problem go away
I like the fact that even in monochrome dream, sorcerer's book is solid gold as it is in life. Helps to show that this isn't just any book, it's a thing unto itself.

When people point out animation errors it usually makes me insecure, as a clumsy beginner. But the animation errors in DM are reassuring because I absolutely never noticed and it doesn’t have any effect on the quality of this amazing show, haha
Is it possible the dream was in B&W because Laios was a dog w/o color vision? Obviously it was first and foremost a stylistic choice but it would be funny if that inspired it

7:38 So I am only watching the anime and plan to go into the manga when I can finally get the money to do so. When I saw this scene and I must have missed that it was suppose to be acid, I thought it was meant to be aging, because right around this scene also depicts an older man in the paintings. As if to show a rapid aging as a sign of death, simce the monster is an embodiment of Marcille's fear of death. It wasn't until it got ahold of him that it altered his full appearance to be much older.
Laios seeing the dream in black and white because he was a dog was a good touch. Laios being a dog in the episode that introduces a catgirl was a great touch.
I don’t know if this counts as a spoiler but izutsumi isn’t a human mixed with a cat soul but a cat mixed with a human soul. It isn’t mentioned in the manga and is only slightly mentioned in some of the extras that ryoku kui has made
its not the hugest spoiler, but i think it would be good to put this under a readmore for anime-only fans. kui doesn't mention it at all till the post-canon comics, and i feel like that was on purpose

The episode was great, meeting Izutsumi and all, really interested on the group dynamic she will bring, the dream was great and has me theorizing a bunch. I just feel like both parts don't communicate much, like when you meet a new character you want to see and learn more about them but instead she is napping in the background while the nightmare is happening.
I love your YT series so much. I dont know many peope who watch the show weekly. But this format is just like talking to homies about each new episode. Also. I frickin live your perfectly researched input. So much going on behind the scenes, I would never know about. Keep it up. It is awesone that Netflix is releasing the show like that. Great episode and great video covering it. That said, this episode really made me wish they were more flexible with this adaptation. It have been quite a few times where it is quite obvious they are adapting distinct chapter into a single episode but nowhere else it is as clashing and dissonant as here, I think. Izutsumi's introduction being shared with one of the heaviest chapters of the story (specially so far) is a huge shame, it kinda overshadow her debut. I kinda hoped they would rearrange some events, or maybe use some of the extra material to fill gaps so the combined chapters of an episode could flow into each other better. And, in particular, I wish that they would separate Big Moments so one doesn't overshadow the other in a single week.
Spoilers for the manga: I think it's interesting that the arm which is used to introduce the dream monster seems to be very similar to the Demon's pig-god form.
I saw someone point this out on tumblr, the ethereal song that plays when Marcille uses the mad mage's grimoire to bonk the Wurm is the same one thst plays when Laios is about to attack Chimera Falin. What an interesting coincidence, I wonder what connection those two scenes could possibly have...

I would say that they are on pair with each other (haven't read the manga so I don't know if Izutsumi can run on all fours like Catra does, nor cut metal with her claws). Pretty sure Catra isn't as detailed as Izutsumi is because of the animation budget (cuz ND stevenson DOES draw her more fluffly in his drawings) . And also isn't as feral because, despite the Horde's abuse, Catra was still treated like a person there
ALSO, one of the ways Catra's dealt with her trauma was supressing her more cat like behaviour. Even so, Catra was definetely one of THE best animated characters in She-ra specially her fight scenes and cat like behaviour
After seeing Studio Trigger move the sea serpant chapter ahead of dryads, I had hoped that the same would be done for this episode as well. Despite being a brand new party member, Izutsumi's introduction was mostly overshadowed by Marcillie's nightmare. I haven't seen many anime only viewers interested in the character outside of benign interest.
i feel like the transition between episodes was rough i almost wish it was moved around. i found myself a bit disappointed as the lack of laois face melting off and found the creature felt smaller when animated. i found myself missing an animated background in a chase scene when running away from the monster. but i love how all of itsuzumis details and design is animated and how much detail was put into the nightmares backgrounds. i need to comb through it all!
The monster In marcel's dream might also have a couple of berzerk influences as there's a couple of shots where it kind of looks like the whale monsters from later in the berserk manga
this is late but my only complaint is that they didnt take enough time to mention the nightmares steam they emit upon cooking that produces an illusion of the dream inside it. it gets called back too later on in the story in a pretty major way so i hope they revisit it in some way

You often gesture at important foreshadowing with a "hmm I wonder if this mystery tool will help us later" energy but never something as outright and direct. Either way true or false I would appreciate avoiding any potential spoilers in the episode breakdowns especially since they're presented alongside each episode release.
I felt the abrupt difference between the first and second half of the episode and for me they could at least made a better transition. But i loved the choice of black and white for the dream and the dream in general, but felt the need to see a more desperate Laios. Anyway, really like your review videos and they make me want to read the manga more and more. Ecxided for the next episode.

I chock it up as, Maizuru made the Yamanba in a controlled environment, and made the Ushi-Oni in the Dungeon.
