Most of the time I prefer a male narrator because I think they can do better female and obviously male voices better that a women doing male voices.. he is fantastic lol
I came here to listen to HF's Ariadne yet again. It's perfection - I second other posters on this. I would love to know what Zoë Wannamaker thinks of it. There aren't many men - or women - who can make a hair flounce audible, but Hugh does; he just does. Sublime.
Excellent job. Of all the Poirot (or Maigret), this is the best narration. Getting Poirot's accent right; not too heavy and not slipping into pure English, either, is tantamount to capturing an authentic and authoritative recreation of Poirot, otherwise, the whole story comes apart. Here, it's just right. Hugh Fraser plays the other characters well, too, with perfect timing and pacing against a cozy background of a crackling fire. 😊 After listening to other offerings, I realized how hard it is to bring these stories to life. This goes to show what a skilled thespian Hugh Fraser truly is and we very much appreciate him and his work. Thanks to all for bringing this to us to enjoy. 🎉🎉🎉
Agree with everything you say, apart from the noise of the fire! I find that distracting, and if you happen to be listening in the summer, just plain daft! 😂
Spring, summer, autumn or winter Hugh Fraser’s readings of Agatha Christie’s writings are wonderful to listen to, never failing to give great pleasure!
I really can't help but join the omniscient praise for Mr. Fraser! Just with his voice alone he creates spaces with groups of people, and I swear, the moment that elder porter spoke up I absolutely saw him step up to Poirot and the younger Porter, taking his cap off, to the dead woman. Agatha Christie has been with me on and off through 50 years now and the older I get, the more I appreciate her wit. What a treat this here upload is! Thank you so very much!
A big cozy chair, a favorite beverage, the crackle and glow of a fire, and a wonderful book. For a little while, the rest of the world with it's chaos and turmoil falls away.
I have listened to books on tape for many years and without a doubt Hugh Fraser is the best reader I have ever heard! I wonder if he reads anything other than AC works...
I’m only a few minutes in, but I find Poirot judging the young girl by her outer appearance- clothes, disheveled hair, even her possible poor hygiene- hysterical juxtaposed with her judging him for being … “old”. It’s ironic, amusing and subtle. This is good writing! Fantastic narration too!
The way of the world back then…..plus he was trying for awhile to get information from the boyfriend….when Poirot is trying to obtain information he acts differently and treats people differently
And as he was Hastings in the TV series, I can visualise him easily. Probably why he has Poirot down pat. Just need Miss Lemon God I love her characters name.❤
NO....!! For those of us with sensitive hearing IT'S DEEPLY IRRITATING, UNPLEASANT, DISTRACTING, AND SOOOO FUQING FAKE....!! How is one meant to enter a story if one is constantly reminded that its just a story narrated in front of a fuqing cackling fire....????
THANKYOU !!!!! FINALLY A LIKE MIND....!! Those of is with sensitive hearing, who listen with earphones.... IT'S TERRIBLE, LIKE A BADLY TUNED RADIO STATION....!!!!!
I am glad that there are diverse tastes and something for everybody and that people are enjoying the fire. For me, I am off to find a version without the crackling sounds. Every crackle distracts me and makes me forget what he was talking about! (I should probably look into an ADD evaluation...). Enjoy!
All series/ episodes with Hugh Frazer and David Suchet available on ITVX ..... just brilliant!!!!! But these readings are perfection and even better as pure unadapted and original as Agatha intended made exquisite by Hugh's superb reading and the crackling fire🔥 Just soooo relaxing ... best nightcap ever❤❤❤❤
The crackle sound is irritating, restarted my computer to see if it was my speakers or the video before I realized you left the sound on the background.
If it wasn’t for the fact that lovely Hugh Fraser was narrating I would’ve given up on this long winded story about a third of the way through. It is just way over blown and could’ve been a nice story in about an hour NOT 7 hours!!! Bah‼️🤨
The noise from the fire is terribly intrusive and distracting! Why is it there? I was listening to the 3 parts and now it's here as a whole with this dreadful sound. Such a shame. Thank goodness it's still present in 3 parts without any background noise.
❤❤❤I just LOVE 😊❤🎉The 🔥 visual fireplace crackling please keep it up ❤ it lends the coziest atmosphere while listening 🎉😊😊 I'm so over the rain I don't find anything cozy about rain !! The fireside experience with a top Agatha Christie reading is TRUE ❤BLISS 😊
Please, could you tell me who narrated Ariadne ? ? She was absolutely miraculous. I would love to hear more of that voice. She has an energy that brings the whole play to life. I want more of her.
Usually a fan of Miss Christie’s but I was a bit disappointed with this one glad I slept through half of it so at least I feel like I didn’t waste all my time God bless everybody
I'm listening to sleep, got it on the lowest volume. I'm hoping it won't be too distracting. It's OK if you are looking at the fire, but I prefer rain, or silence
I just wish that the sound of that fire wasn't there for it is so putting of don't understand why they have started putting that fire noise on just can't get into the story because of it 😡😠
I'm sure the Poster thinks he has been so clever in including the crackling fire. In fact it is an annoyance, like the scratch on a vinyl record except that it lacks the predictability and is thus even more annoying.
Sooo much repetition of the same information over and over. The Resteric family history, David Baker, Rhys Holland, Norma’s mental state etc. Repeated more than 4 times already and there’s still 2 hrs left in the book 😮💨
I love Hugh Fraser's narration of AC, his female characters are absolutely amazing, Ariadne especially.
Mrs Oliver's voice is just 👌👌

Hugh Fraser is an outstanding narrator. Great voice changes and emotion.
Yes, he has one of the best that I have ever listened to! Have you heard Sir Christopher Lee read her stories yet?
Best narrator ever!
Hugh Fraser is so talented. He brings every character to life, but Mrs Oliver is my absolute favourite.
I sometimes listen to the ones with Mrs Oliver in them just to hear Hugh Fraser do the voice!
Excellent job. Of all the Poirot (or Maigret), this is the best narration. @@richardichard4237for my part I find the fire soothing and that's the reason RUclips doesn't interrupt with promotions every two minutes

Spring, summer, autumn or winter Hugh Fraser’s readings of Agatha Christie’s writings are wonderful to listen to, never failing to give great pleasure!
😊 I see and appreciate the humor of having this read by Hugh Fraser aka Captain Hastings
Hugh Fraser narrative was spectacular. Thank you.
Mr. Fraser has quite the chance to show off his acting skills. Truly, audiobooks bring out the best (or sometimes worst) in actors.
I really can't help but join the omniscient praise for Mr. Fraser! Just with his voice alone he creates spaces with groups of people, and I swear, the moment that elder porter spoke up I absolutely saw him step up to Poirot and the younger Porter, taking his cap off, to the dead woman.

The fireplace sounds make me keep thinking my phone is having issues. Lmbo. Love, love, love these books! Thank you so much!!
I hate the damn fire, so unnecessary, so fuqing annoying....!!!
Can’t listen unfortunately.
A big cozy chair, a favorite beverage, the crackle and glow of a fire, and a wonderful book. For a little while, the rest of the world with it's chaos and turmoil falls away.
It also helps me a lot while doing some nightshift working in my workshop with a big pot of coffee and cream to rely on ☕
cosy not cozy.
@@stewartlancaster6155 Wrong. Look it up.
Mr.Fraser is the best reader.
I love this narrator. As much as I love the fella who did the Alchemist.
It's a wonderful listen. Soothes me more than anything. Thank you

Have you listened to Simon on Bitesized Audio channel? He's a really good narrator.

Yes! And then how he keeps bringing up that he is "old", it's comical.
@@angiechaney6240 Indeed! 😂
Oh! I Hadn't noticed that 😊
What I noticed is how strongly he judges her vs. how open minded he is about her boyfriend. What's up w/that?

I love the crackling fire! It's perfect with Hugh Fraser's narration. ❤

What a Great narrator ,lovely voice ,and specially ladies intonations Too
Hugh Fraser is a paid actor..not a magician
This is a masterpiece, and not only because of A. C but because of the reading! Hugh Fraser is amazing doing all those voices, Bravo!
That is his job. Hugh Fraser is an actor.
What a great story and the acting is superb! I have a difficult time listening to anyone else.Thank you!!!
Thoroughly enjoyed this audiobook, as I haven't read the actual novel.

Wonderful exciting such a enjoyable time with another Agatha Christie! Narrator is so good makes the whole book come alive.Thank you.
Another absolute masterpiece of play by Hugh Fraser. Thank you so much.
Hearing this read by "Captain Hastings " is marvelous! I read this decades ago ...you give great life to the story! Loved the Acorn series!
So cosy on a winter afternoon watching the fire and having a great Agatha Christie read to me by the incomparable Hugh Fraser 😊
Exactly my thoughts
Also pleasant on a rainy late spring night
But in the summer the fire seems a bit off.
loved the story, narrator and the fire effect.... kudos
Hugh frasier is amazing .I could go on and on about him, but it's not necessary because everyone knows his talent.

It is a shame for the crackling of the fire. It gets in the way for me. So, no , thank you!
I use the audio book to help with sleepless nights.. This fire crackling in the back ground makes me think the room has caught fire...
Maybe make the crackling fire sound an optional add-on for listeners.
I love the muted sound of the crackling fire … so MUCH! 🎉
A more realistic crackling fire background soundtrack, on a longer repeat loop, would be great.
This sounds nothing like a fire to me.
It keeps popping and making me jump!
Brilliant narration. Love the fireside crackles. Thank you ❤
