One of the best Omnies released this year!
I cannot believe it took this long to see Marvel put out a Black Panther origin omni
What a triumph
I just said the same thing...they pushed this back so many times
And we got 3 within a single month!
@@dogmd7 SERIOUSLY
You got me more excited for this. My copy can’t get here soon enough! I do hope we’ll get Jack Kirby’s run in omni format sometime in the near future.
I swear everytime I say NO to an omnibus here comes Omar's review and dammit I give in and buy it lol 😂
This is the Black Panther Omni for me!! So many Black Panther omnis coming out, it was hard to decide budget wise. Thanks Omar for the review. Sold it for me.
Same
Eagerly expecting this, and here’s to hoping Marvel follows this up in 2023-24 with a Bronze come early Modern Black Panther Vol. 1 featuring Kirby’s run.
One of my most anticipated for the year
I have some of the original Don McGregor issues of Black Panther in Jungle Action (including # 21 and the Sons of the Serpents Avengers story in #'s 73 and 74. I love those early stories of Black Panther.
Panther! Sure wanted V 1&2 but hey, it's finally here!
Cannot wait to relive these great stories again! Thanks Omar!
Waited monthsss for this omnibus!!! Just in time for the new Wakanda movie! I hope we get Iron Fist 70s omni.
Buying two copies of the DM, one to send to my dad. I hope there's another volume collecting all the pre Priest stuff. (Including guest appearances that weren't in the epics) Thanks for the overview, Omar!
I can't wait to get my copy. I am so grateful that I pre-ordered early and will do it again next year. My copy is coming when it comes out
Awesome review.
Sooooo....I am of course getting this masterpiece but when are we getting Black Panther by Jack Kirby Omnibus?
I am constantly floored by the amount of comic knowledge Omar has and shares. Thank you for all you do!
I've been thinking a lot about this since video first came out, and also getting the Mighty Marvel Masterworks' The Claws of The Panther. I love what they did with this volume of MMMW, and as such, I guess my ideal 'Early Years' Black Panther Omnibus would consist of all that content, every appearance prior to Don McGregor taking over the title, but then skip, leave out McGregor's first run, and go straight to the Kirby Returns issues, ending them as they did with the two volume TPBs that came out some years ago. No idea what it could be titled as, The Kirby Years ?, but I'd buy it at least.
great video, 26 mins that just flew by.
I remember reading Panther’s Rage when it came out as singles. My friends thought that was crazy for Marvel to go after the klan. Especially here in the south.
3 Black Panther omnibus collections down; 1 to go (Christopher Priest).
Black Panther got no love in the 70s...but now the tables have turned on Marvel. Its a money making franchise to tap into!
Looking forward to getting this!
This is a great overview, Omar! I watched it all the way through even though I've already got my copy just to see what you had to say.
Also got a Candace Owens ad lmao
Looks great. I have most of the contents already, but I may pick this one up.
I need to see if I can sell my Epics… the art/color just pop off the page in this!!
I’m so ready to read this got the standard but I’m suprised they took this long to even make black panther omnis
its so cool to see these stories all put in a continuous read together! Truly!
However, To say that the Black Panther party was founded months after his appearance is kind of not correct, though. The "Lowndes County Freedom Organization" was founded a year or more earlier, and they became more famous and beyond the small regional voting rregistration concern, officially renaming themselves as the black panther party in october 1966. In 1965, they used this black panther symbol and were even known as "the black panther political party" when the votings rights change in 1965 actually allowed more African American suffrage.
Here is the Lowndes County Freedom Organization's symbol as used in an early pre-fictional kirby BP symbol:
"Due to high rates of illiteracy among the black residents, an image of a black panther was adopted to identify party members of LCFO in contrast to members of the all-white Democratic party represented by a white rooster. The idea for the logo came from SNCC field secretary Ruth Howard." -1966 June political pamphlet "How the Black Panther Party was organized"
(as a comment, I am including a good scan of the June 1966 Black Panther document)
this is going to be a double dip for me but getting anyway
@4:35
Looks increíble as always, I just don’t known if I want to have all does other titles like the avengers that I will double dip later on. Don’t know if I should keep my epics.
Fantastic array of BP stories and creators in this volume, sounds promising that the paper stock is better quality. I’d opt for the DM cover if my budget can afford it.
I wonder what sort of price increase would be involved if Marvel printed in say Canada?
🤭 Nice pun Omar , 😂😂 DC is "Distinguished Competition" 😆😆 so funny
Can't take credit for that. That was all Stan Lee and Bullpen. :)
Month of the panther!
Thank God Marvel has been so committed to reprinting these classic-era books in omnibus format. Because (nearly) everything they're doing nowadays is unreadable garbage. If it weren't for stuff like this, my comic reading days would be (almost) over, at least when it comes to Marvel & DC. That being said, they're doing a wonderful job with their omnibus and epic collections. I sincerely hope they continue with them, because that's just about all they're doing right these days.
Just got this one for 29 USD on CGN's Black Friday sale.
Great deal!
Any chance we get a volume 2 of this collecting the Kirby run, Panther's Quest and the Gillis run?
I really hope so!
I noticed the eye wasn't nearly as big on this one compared to the other BP omnis. This one from Imak and the others from Donnely. Does Marvel plan on using the Imak printer for all the silver and bronze age stuff and the Donnely for the copper and modern ages going forward? It would make sense if they did because spreads weren't very common until the 80s.
Will there be Vol. 2?
As great as this omni looks, I think I'll stick with the Black Panther Epics I have due to them having most of the stories I want from this era anyway.
Likely going to buy the main Ta-Nehisi Coates omni though.
I have this pre-ordered with a discounted price but i'm still on the fence... i don't think i have read any solo black panther issues but i'm picky when it comes to silver age material
Nice standard cover. The DM cover is a little old school silly.
Omar, I'm getting a lot of confusing reports about whether the DM variant is coming out tomorrow or next week. Any idea about that? Even your description conflicts with the audio in the video, haha. I don't wanna miss that cover!
My DM shipped last Weds, hasn’t arrived yet.
@@RobRVA Wow, that's still pretty early!
This material is in the Epic Collections, right?
I think if I had to only get one then it would be the Priest stuff
I'm so conflicted. 22 issues of this book are doubled dipped for me in other omnis and 20 issues I don't have. What would you do? Buy, no buy?
Savage Sword of Conan vol. 8 omnibus review??????
Tough call, but I am skipping this one. I have both Panther's Rage and Prey epics, covering McGregors work, as well as the FF omnis and having tried to read Kirby's efforts ... it was not a great creator/character pairing in my book. Accounting for that, the missing parts of McGregors work and all the double dipping with FF, it's acutally one I can live without.
While this book looks beautiful, and you certainly sell it brother, I think I'll get the Epics instead. The first one collects his first appearance and the "Panther's Rage" story, which is my preference to read.
They are all great ways of collecting them. And of course three epics so far have more than this omnibus
You've been misinformed, Omar. Ron Wilson was another African American at Marvel pencilling Marvel Two-in-One and Power Man at the same time Billy Graham was there.
Thank you so much for clarifying that. Now I'll have to do more research.
@@NearMintCondition But think of all the fun you'll have researching two such classic artists! I'm kinda jealous. 👍
Keith Pollard was around during this time too, right? Or was he a little later?
@@nivekleveb8872 Yes, he was. And now that I come to think of it, so was Arvell Jones.
@@ancientonezero Good call!
The Bukler cover comes out this week. You really need to check some sites that has the following week's solicits.
