  • In today's video we go over what the BEST Pokémon of every type in Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl are. Sinnoh has a pretty diverse cast of Pokémon so it was interesting to narrow it done to just one Pokémon for each typing but, by golly, I did it!

It's unfortunate that BDSP decided to stay so close to Diamond/Pearl as Platinum's the best version. BDSP should've been better with: earlier access to many Pokemon, going based off Platinum, actual realized 3D game, reusable TMs, more content, and having post Gen 4 Pokemon. The UnderGround is a great addition though

See I want to say Magnezone is the best but I remembered Staraptor with Close Combat exists, but it also has a really high special attack stat so I'm sure it can revenge kill it but it's also so slow that I feel the next mon will be able to hit and take it out that's why I'm kinda leaning to Raichu since it has 110 speed it will be able to outspeed everything but Crobat

@@jonnybones6952 Empoleon has 3 weaknesses (electric, ground, fighting) compared to gastrodon who only has one. That makes Gastrodon better in that aspect compared to Empoleon. Plus, Immunity to Electric, which makes it a good switch in. It Also has Storm Drain, which gives it immunity to Water as well, so that means Gastrodon completely walls two entire gyms and gym leaders. Gastrodon is also bulkier stat-wise than Empoleon. Even if you find a grass type, you could just choose not to send out Gastrodon. That's what your other pokemon are for. Plus, chances are, it can live through a stab grass knot due to its massive bulk. Water is one of the best types in the game, Ground is also one of the best types in the game. Combining two of the best types that has amazing synergy with each other, plus good ability and stats makes this awesome pokemon.

    - for water type: I still love that you can sweep the entire elite 4 and cynthia (except for her milotic, but you have 5 other pokemon for that) with a milotic, and yes, if you are afraid of garchomp, just put dragon pulse in milotic and ohko it. Too bad you get it VERY late, and it's complicated to evolve it.
    - for fighting type: so sad gallade wasn't even mentioned. I don't know the location of dawn stone in bdsp, but gallade is still a strong pokemon that can actually learn drain punch.
    - 6:33 Can't you go to pastoria city without fighting veilstone Gym? I mean, this games aren't THAT linnear.
    - 10:38 Sucker Punch.
    - 11:30 Tired of hearing about clefable? What about luxray, staraptor, infernape, lucario, garchomp, snorlax, alakazam, gengar...? Everybody talks a lot of them.
    - 13:35 Well, you ALWAYS talk about gengar when about ghost types, and every ghost gym leader have a Gengar (or in platinum fantina's case, a haunter due to how soon the battle is)

I think considering the big battles would change the rankings as now the big opponents have Good IVs and EVs, particularly the league. When it comes to Cynthia, odds are you wont out-speed unless its Gastrodon, or Unless youre over-levelled. So Picks like Alakazam which depend on hitting first before theyre killed... suffer, so for the psychic type i would have considered if gardevoir's chance to live over alakazam is significant enough. Or if alakazam has enough of an ability to hit those difficult opponents before being hit itself.
This is a rather counter intuitive aspect of BDSP, as glass cannons just dont work, so gameplay styles need to shift to accommodate

My Team in BDSP (Though I'm not done yet, I'm taking a break from progression to shiny hunt Dialga, I figure I might try Shiny hunting Legendaries in this game) is as follows:
Starter: Torterra aka the bulldozer that stomps Sinnoh flatter than a pancake
Requisite Water type: Manaphy (I love it), first Mythical I've ever been able to use on a playthrough and I'm not going to deny a Mythical what I've been saying they need for years.
Flyer: Crobat, I always used Staraptor in previous Sinnoh playthroughs (I wonder why) but I've recently grown very fond of Crobat and It's become the second strongest member of my team (also it evolved into a Crobat right after the Second Gym!)
Heavy Hitter: Rampardos. I know I said Torterra and Crobat were the Strongest, but this stony girl (mine happens to be female) is the second fastest member of my team (after Crobat) and is the one who hits the absolute hardest with that oh so beefy attack stat.
Requisite Fire Type: Houndoom. Screw the fact that Infernape is statistically the best fire type, I burned my way through team Galactic with the help of this Loyal Hellhound.
Final Member: The Lucario from Iron Island... funny thing is I told myself I wouldn't be using the Riolu this time, I'd hatch it and put it in the box. But I ended up using him because of how quickly he caught up to the rest of my team... It literally just took going through Byron's gym and the Riolu had evolved and was only a few levels below the team average.

Togekiss, while it’s a great Pokémon and all, is just such a pain to get in these games that you’re honestly better off using Staraptor as your Flying type instead. It’s such a pain to have to deal with the stupid Friendship evolution and finding a Shiny Stone to evolve Togetic is also very time consuming. There are also better Fairy type options in this game, such as Gardevoir and Azumarill that are much easier to obtain than Togekiss and in my opinion, more worth it in the end. Heck, I even planned to have Togekiss on my playthrough team for my first playthrough of Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, but ended up using Staraptor and Gardevoir instead because of how painful it is to obtain a Togekiss in these games. You’re better off using that Shiny Stone on a Roselia and getting Roserade instead and having a powerful Grass type on your team. Plus, even though Budew and Roselia evolve through the same methods as Togepi and Togetic respectively, you can at least find wild Roselia in the Underground so you won’t have to deal with trying to raise friendship with Budew.

I'd argue that Clefable isn't that good compared to Gardevoir and Togekiss. STAB and raw stats are more important than coverage in a playthrough situation every time, and Clefable just falls short on both fronts by having lower stats and only a single typing. If I need to use a move that isn't my current Pokémon's stab, I'll usually just switch to a Pokemon who does have that stab, with coverage really just being there as a last resort in most cases.

Luxray would have been a contestant for best Electric type if it had access to Play Rough and Psychic Fang like in SwSh and if it would learn Wild Charge A LITTLE earlier than level 92.
Also Drapion could also have been a shout for best Poison type, Togekiss for best Fairy type and Gallade for both psychic and fighting (since you can theoretically have one for the 2nd gym if you grind for a pick up dawn stone)

I personally think Electivire is the better electric type given it is only 2x weak to ground and has access to ice punch. pokemon in the underground can have egg moves so it is possible to get one( I got one). furthermore, it is most likely outspeeding most ground types which makes it nearly invincible in a playthrough while magnezone is very slow

Curious- do you consider traditional competitive/the current (and very new) meta when crafting these “best of” lists? I ask because some of the chosen Pokémon moves (and lack of synergy) makes me think these lists are strictly for the average player who just wants to have fun throughout the game(s), or grind them at max efficiency. There definitely seems to be a large overlap with the “strongest” Pokémon themselves, though. I am just missing some of my fave Ground and Water type heavy hitters here.

Drapion is actually the better Dark Type Pokemon when comparing it and Houndoom for a playthrough simply because of Knock Off. STAB Knock Off is one of the best moves to have in BDSP for the late game. Drapion's bulk and lack of weaknesses often lets it take a hit and Knock Off a Gym Leader's or E4 Member's item which usually reduces that Pokemon's threat level significantly.

@@chrisjohnsen8448 lol Not even. With Exp Share you can have Drapion by right around the 5th Gym (which it completely anihilates). Drapion is also available on its own as a daily binocular Pokemon in the Great Marsh. It's such a good Pokemon from mid to late game. The fact that Drapion trivializes Lucian with Knock Off cannot be overstated. As a Dark Type, making the most of its Dark Type, it's the best for a BDSP playthrough. Houndoom is great for its Fire utility, but Drapion is better at utilizing the Dark type.

Okay, here’s my opinion on what the best Pokémon to use for each typing is in Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl:
    Normal- Staraptor
    Flying- Staraptor
    Fairy- Gardevoir
    Honorable Mention: Azumarill
    Psychic- Gardevoir
Dark- If the player picks Chimchar, Drapion is the best Dark type option in these games. However, if the player picked one of the other two starters in the Sinnoh region, then Houndoom is the best Dark type.
Fighting- Infernape(only for those who picked Chimchar)/ Machamp(if the player is able to trade and didn’t pick Chimchar)
Steel- If the player picks either Turtwig or Chimchar, Magnezone is the best Steel type available in these games. If the player picked Piplup however, then Empoleon is the best Steel type.
Electric- Magnezone(only if the player didn’t pick Piplup. Otherwise, don’t use an Electric type in these games)
Ground- Torterra(only for those who picked Turtwig / Gastrodon(for players who started with Chimchar) / Hippowdon(for those who picked Piplup) / Garchomp(for those who picked either Chimchar or Piplup and want a more powerful and faster Ground type and are willing to wait until after the seventh gym to obtain it)
Water- Empoleon(for those who started with Piplup only) / Gyarados(for those who didn’t pick Piplup)
Grass- Torterra(only for players who picked Turtwig) / Roserade(only for players who didn’t start with Turtwig)
Fire- Infernape(only for those who picked Chimchar) / Houndoom(only for players who started out with Piplup or Turtwig)
Poison- Roserade(only for the players who didn’t pick Turtwig) / Drapion
    Ghost- Gengar
Bug- Scizor(only for players who didn’t pick Piplup and have access to trading) / Heracross
Rock- Golem(only for those who didn’t pick Turtwig and have access to trading) / Sudowoodo
Dragon- Garchomp(only for those who didn’t pick Turtwig and are willing to wait until they have seven gym badges before obtaining it) / Altaria(because it’s the only other option, lol)
Ice- Mamoswine(only for those who didn’t pick Turtwig and are willing to grind for Heart Scales to evolve their Piloswine into Mamoswine) / Weavile
EDIT: And in case you couldn’t tell, I would not recommend using Torterra in these games, unless it’s like your favorite Starter or something because it’s super slow and get outclassed by other Ground types such as Gastrodon, Hippowdon, and Garchomp(even though you can’t get it until late game) and when it comes to the Grass typing, Roserade is just the best Grass type to use period. I’m not trying to discourage anyone who wants to pick Turtwig. I’m just saying that there are better Grass(for example, Roserade) and Ground options.

other grounds that also outclass torterra would be steelix, quagsire and mamoswine, and as for your stand on electric....yeah....your not wrong....electric is pretty underwhelming in Sinnoh cause i think a lot of trainers use pokemon that either resist electric or are a ground type (in my experience....ground types are used quite often with how much you see stuff like the geodude line, onix, steelix, the hippos, quagsire, whiscash and gastrodon)
