Genius of Attack On Titan's Basement Reveal

  • AOT is genuinely one of the best-written shows, yet there aren't many analysis videos based around its amazing writing. So, I wanted to change that and talk about the basement reveal at the end of season 3 part 2 and how it changed the series forever.
    Attack on Titan is my favorite anime so don't mind me, I'm just way too enthusiastic about it.
    This video was made in kind of a rush, thus automatically excusing the poor editing and script not talking about the bad audio quality.

    Attack on Titan didn't only change how I viewed anime but it also changed my view on humanity, it draws so many parallels to our real world that makes me feel sick yet so amazed at how really complex we are as humans not just "evil or good"
    (An example of my point is the one shown in the video about Grisha, and there'll be many great examples of this in S4)

    • @scottbaylo
      @scottbaylo 3 года назад +21

      I found the same thing, and not only are there a lot of parallels when it comes to the struggles of humanity, the diversity and complexity of people, conspiring governments, etc. But I believe there are also hidden truths about humanities past, how so much is kept from the public, and that we're lied to about the past. I'm sure there is an insane amount of symbolism in it, but I'm not very good with that stuff

    I think isayama wanted to tell a moody, grey war story from the start, and then his creative instincts kicked in and he built the world until it ended up where it all began.

    • @lauzarahk2584
      @lauzarahk2584 3 года назад +109

      I dont think so. Based on the oneshot that he made with the same title i'm sure that he only thought about the simple premise, which is titan vs humanity. But then the editor of his asked him alot of question regarding the history of the titan and every other detail about how the manga lore would be. And i read that if he can't come up with an answer for every editor's question the manga wouldnt be published. I bet that's the starting point of the masterfully craft world of attack on titan.
      Isayama himself cant craft such a masterpiece and believeable story without the critics and question that his editor put forward. Isayama is genius but he need someone to make his genius shine. Thanks to his editor and the publishing company that believe in him eventhough his drawing not that good.

      Unfortunately, he kinda still did a black and white world for AoT, after knowing that every nation outside are comically evil and aiming to destroy them without allowing Paradis to talk i.e. if he even gave more thought and the worldbuilding was more built solidly, I think the Rumbling wouldn't make sense.
      Like is there no nation/country/government/factions not aligned to Marley that would rather ally with Paradis/see that Marley might be using them on Liberio to wage war on Paradis/go with the "enemy of my enemy is my friend" idea/might want to help them on their Titanization problem and so forth?
      But I guess for the Rumbling to happen Isayama needed the world to be hostile to Paradis, the main cast's home.

    I'm an extremely picky person, and I've been known to hate an entire movie because of one corny line. I can only think of one corny thing in AOT so far (where Eren, Mikasa, and Armin are eating their rations angrily. It just looked silly), and it wasn't even close to ruining it for me. AOT is probably the greatest thing I've seen in over 15 years, and is by far my favorite anime. Eren's line at the end of season 3 is what really explains his actions in season 4 "If we kill all our enemies, will we be free?" Eren has reached a point where instead of pursuing an ideal of freedom in a general sense he begins to pursue the end of Marley, which I'd argue is a moral goal.

    honestly attack on titan is like that line from ready player one
    In the form of my avatar Anorak the All-Knowing, I created three keys, three hidden challenges test the worthy traits, revealing three hidden keys to three magic gates. And those with the skill to survive these traits will reach the end, where the prize awaits. The keys aren't just laying around under a rock somewhere. I suppose you could say they're invisible, hidden in a dark room that's at the center of a maze that's located somewhere up here. Let the hunt for Halliday's easter egg begin!" - ernest cline ready player one
    mostly because the creator had hints everywhere but all through out the first 3 seasons every time you got maybe one answer 5 more questions would appear then when we get to the basement we get all the questions we had answered basically but in doing so we get like 10X more so in short the creator of the series is fucking crazy good at making a story that you can pick apart all day long and still not get to the end with just how much stuff and work he has put into it

    • @BerriesSan
      @BerriesSan  3 года назад +1

      In isayama’s (the author’s) own words, he created AOT wanting to create something that had “infinite depth”. There is just so much to think upon that one can spend days and still not understand everything that there is

    This is the reason attack on titan is a good anime like the creator knew what he was doing when it first started manga spoilers
    Like in chapter 121 it was so weird that eren was the one who told his dad to kill all royal blood except one and how I think the story will end will be connected to the first episode and how every thing was set up from the first episode to the last and it’s not bad cuz it explains everything

    • @BerriesSan
      @BerriesSan  3 года назад +1

      Just because attack on Titan was an action show with a relatively simpler concept, everyone unjustifiably forced the image of “a baby’s first anime shounen trash” on it. It’s writing is still the best and the most well thought out that I’ve ever seen. People just hate on the show cuz they have a narrower vision and don’t want to acknowledge AOT as anything more than a hype action show. It really hurts me when I think about it😕

    One question that feels unanswered as of yet is why Eren transforming into a titan to save Mikasa and Armin on Trost from that cannonball suddenly spawned flowers. As pointed out by Armin. I know there is a theme of flowers throughout the series and even Titans work kinda like flowers with the sun and stuff but what else is there to that?

    Idk about anyone else but I'm not impressed by the birds at 2:25 being called foreshadowing since they mostly look like Canadian Geese and those things can live almost anywhere in North America depending on the season.
    Which is not to say that the author hadn't planned out the whole plotline from a very early point just that those birds in that scene aren't evidence of that

    Can we recognize the fact that Uri Reiss looks JUST like Armin? And Eren Kruger LOOKS just like Eren? It was like those two had everything planned out through reincarnation. Almost like the Indra and Asura reincarnation sequence that if a generation failed, the next generation will continue on the plan until finally THIS generation finally does something right...Whether if it was the right decision or not...the result and the outcome is truly expected.
