  • We stop at the abandoned Twin Arrows Trading Post located on old Route 66 just west of Winona and east of Winslow, Arizona. Flagstaff is not far to the east and Humphreys Peak is visible. The Trading Post went into business in the 1940's serving Route 66 passengers. It struggled to stay in business after I-40 was built and modern cars didn't need to stop as often. It finally closed in 1995 and has been in decay since then. Meager efforts have been made to restore the arrows but the vandals and the weather are winning the battle at this point. Still a wonderful place to stop and remember the old days.

Two Guns is actually an entirely separate place about 19 miles East on I40. There's some super cool stuff there so I hope you checked it out as well. Love the videos BTW.

Thanks for the comment. I realized you’re right about the Two Guns thing and I added some text to my video. The information I read about the town was incorrect. But I think that the Twin Arrows name may have been inspired by the Two Guns name as that town had been seeing some success. Happy travels, and I hope your van is running great.

@@fiestaadventures The van went in the shop this morning for a new motor. My wallet is screaming but before long I'll be back on the road and headed back out West for the rest of the year. Maybe we'll run into each other exploring some weirdness in the desert one of these days:)

Well damn, some kids thought they had the right to pee all over that historical place, not too bright. Thanks for this share.

Thanks for the comment, I was being kind when I was speaking about my objection to vandalism. In private, I just might have much harsher words. 😂

Your opinions about graffiti are not as strong as mine. People who intentionally wreck the planet shouldn't get to live on it. Parents who don't teach kids proper respect and don't supervise them should not get to reproduce.
Obviously, retailers restricting sale of spray paint hasn't had much deterrence. A longtime resident in our community suggested a more creative solution: The consequence when getting caught vandalizing should be the vandal has to perform community service on a substantial section of walls to paint over the graffiti himself and be assigned to monitor it for 6 months. Any time graffiti appears on their section of wall, they have to repaint. The idea was for the vandals to put pressure on peers not to deface community property since the burden to restore it would be on them, anyway.
