China off the beaten path 🚴🏻 Exploring the villages of Jiangsu Province

- It's so nice outside, let's go biking!! 😍😍 Today I am visiting the land of mysterious grasses and fruits, where around every corner is something new and interesting. Hang in there for a brief trip through the edge of Nanjing and through the frontiers of the demolition zone... then lots and lots of beautiful Jurong countryside scenery 🌾
Many people ask me, why is my bike allowed on the train? It's a folding bike!! 🚴🏻 so the downside is that it's slower than a regular road bike, but the upside is, I'm not in a hurry anyway, because I can put the bike on public transport / in the trunk of a car. I take small narrow country roads for most of the route and design my own itinerary using a satellite map as opposed to following the main roads.

This folding bike is super durable and perfect for city commutes and long-haul treks alike. Folding bikes can go in car trunks, public transport, and planes, adding tons of flexibility to your journeys 🚲

That’s the meaning of real freedom!
Yup, there is something very calming about small towns. Although there isn't much to find, each thing has so much value.
That “Gigantic grass thing” in the ending is, i believe, edible. I am from Jiangsu, too, and grew up in a similar countryside. It is called “Lu Ji” in my hometown, and is sort of like Sugar Cane. It usually grows thinner and higher than the latter, but has similar texture with less juices after you peel off its skins. Enjoy!
I also followed your English channel. You are a kind and intelligent girl. I hope you live in China happily~!
Just subscribed to your vlog. Good to see your happy life cycling into rural areas in Nanjing. 👍👍👍
Blessings. Stay safe and enjoy life.
it's a valuable video,thank you
阳离子真棒!
My gorgeous hometown. I never realized it was not that far from Nanjing where I worked and lived sixteen years ago.
you're sacrificing so much to be in china just like myself left my native country vietnam to be in the usa...good luck & have fun! nyc
‘ U ... u .... u ... beautiful ‘ ... guess u are used to the compliments
Sweet ride. Cheers.
This is so awesome, my home town is Zhenjiang, the villages you explored are typical village style in Nanjing and Zhenjiang.
I really like your bike rides to the country side and your commentary.... it's kinda has a "Stand by Me" (movie) vibe but done solo and on a bike or you're the modern day version of "Uncle Traveling Matt" of the children's show of past called, "Fraggle Rock" 💡 Keep on rollin' and filmin'
Haha...Love the vibe.
Wow!
Very interesting !!
I want to see more.
The "broom-looking grass" looks to be sesame plant. LOL.
Your vids give me peace!
Cool! it is too hot to bike in jiangsu summer time.

Just wondering, how long did this bike trip take you? I'm thinking of trying it out myself some time.
阳离子,一直看你在B站的中文视频,才知道还有英文版的,英文说得更溜,好棒。
从抖音过来的,哈哈!17~20年在南京,去过两次丹阳眼镜城~

I love to explore but my wife she doesn't... how I wish you and her can switch character over. lol...
😝
你是南大的?我也是啊,不过太早了,那时还没新校园。
You passed by my father's hometown! The village is at the southwestern corner of S122 and G4011. A lot of my relatives used to live there, but only one of my seven cousins still lives there, others moved to cities like Hangzhou or surrounding county-level cities. After my father's generation is gone, I fear it will become a ghost town.
wow, small world! yeah I noticed that too, it seems that only people in their 50s/60s or older live in these places, I wonder what will happen in future generations, will the countryside lifestyle vanish altogether? I am doing my best to record it while it is still here..!
@@kats_journey_east Yeah, for more salary, countryside young people have to leave, maybe lots of people will go back when China become a developed country, like western. But I'm afraid most of the traditional houses will not exist any more by then, kinda sad because those are our cultural stuffs.
You are panning the camera too fast!

It sounds like the other cyclists are saying “On your right” in Chinese to pass you.

Those powerline squashes look kinda dangerous. Will people get shocked if they harvest them?
I guess they've figured out a way to do it safely 🤣🤣🤣
@@kats_journey_east I guess they are both expert squash farmers and electricians at the same time.
@@kats_journey_east Yeah, northeastern accent can be really contagious. My parents are from there as well.
I think its cable wire or telephone line, powerline will be much higher or underground. I have that cable line across my roof back home, we use that to hang dry t-shirt. It's convinient
What is that 2:30 - 2:34 on the top right flying on your video? UFO..........
yeah that is weird, didn't notice it until you commented 😂 no idea what it is, guess its a UFO 👽
It seems like a kite.
Get yourself a helmet Katya
