Nightwish really is one of the best metal bands ever created. Pure art, makes me sad thinking people think metal is just about death and screaming and Satan.
Such a great song. The whole band is awesome but Marko vocals are the highlight for me. I love the live version at Summer Breeze 2002 remastered. Again the whole band is performing great, enjoying on stage, Tarja is all smiles interacting with Marko and singing Marko's parts too - off mic.
Tbh I tried couple of times figuring out the meaning of the songs, getting to a point but it seem many time clueless. I have a friend who also has decent knowledge of stuff overall and likes Nighwish aswell, he said many times they sing in songs about old gods and stories with those gods, but not every song is about the ancient gods ofcourse. Still I'd like to see them giving us knowledge of what their songs mean.

Well, this is actually very sad. I mean, it's one of those songs that doesn't hit you with emotions all of sudden, but makes you euphoric by the music and slowly start to turning you into melancholic mode thoughful as you begin realizing the words and then you're sad and happy in the same time. My favourite ability of art.

The last couple albums, he's been shifting his tortured genius identity onto the earth itself. I think that it's more likely the more common theme in their songs: A loss of innocence. "Little boy, such precious joy, is dead to the world" sounds like a lamenting of the loss of an innocence most often found in children. If we assume the "child" is childhood innocence, then the child giving thought to the poet's words (It's words, video has it as world incorrectly) could mean that his innocence has given birth to his songs. Comfort to the fallen could refer to his memories of childhood comforting him now. You kind of start seeing how the song can be interpreted that way. Given how common the innocence theme is, I feel that Tuomas very much wishes to be as naive as a child again, in a world where everything's *nice* until proven otherwise and laments the fact that he can't go back there because the world's jaded him.
