The Civic Type R was already pretty much the best front wheel drive car ever sold in the US, and with this new limited edition, it only gets better. The 'LE' sheds both sprung and unsprung weight, has retuned steering and suspension, and a Pilot Sport Cup 2 tire for maximum grip. After spending a day driving one hard, it's easy to understand why people pay so much over sticker for these things, even though they shouldn't.
Honda provided the vehicle, insurance, and a tank of fuel for this review.

Same thing with the Focus RS even though that had its own problems. I recently bought a 2021 Tacoma trd sport and they slapped a $5k markup because they said the factory has been slowed down due to Covid. I told the dealership, “I’m not paying $5k over. It's really unfortunate that the dealers are marking these things up. I was at my local Honda dealer and they had two new Type Rs on the showroom -- a normal one and a Limited Edition. The normal had a $10k market adjustment, and the LE had a $20k markup. What fool would pay $20k markup for a Civic?
Even worse, is that it defeats the very purpose of these hot hatches...affordable performance. The appeal of a hot hatch is really lost when they are in the company price wise of some very serious used performance cars.

All this video did, is make me want it more. Ive been in love with the Civic Type R since the last one came out. Im pretty much a euro car guy, Audi, VW, Porsche.. thats what Im all about. Except the youth nostalgia in me grew up on JDM. When I was in highschool, it was pure JDM obsession. To this day I would love to build up a 00 Civic Si, or better yet, a last gen Prelude. Just pure JDM joy.
Which leads me to the Type R. First time I saw it, I knew it was gonna be one of the cars Id lust over whenever I saw one. And right now, Im actually in the market, Im currently shopping for my next ride. The main contenders are the VW GTI, MK 6 or better, or better yet, the Golf R. And then the Type R comes in and its like.. ohhhhhh... damnnnn. And like, 2018 Civic Si? Certified used its around 20K. Ok, how much more could the Type R be.. really.
And you're telling me, 60k?? Im hearing people are seeing them for even higher?? What in the fuck. Ill absolutely grab an Si certified used for 20. But 60 thousand?
Sorry.. even someone who has heavy nostalgia for JDM like me, isnt paying that kind of money for that car. 60k??? 60k buys a hell of lot more car than a brand new Type R. No. Cmon. 60 thousand dollars??? Cmon.

Type R is great car for the track because there is a very minimal amount of things you need to do. Pads and fluid is all you really need to do. If you want to be more competitive go for lighter 18 inch wheels and wider tires. Yes the car does heat soak and pull timing on hot days, it is a pain in the ass. I have not done anything to address that on mine yet... I am more of a time trial guy, so I just do 4-5 laps and then I'm done for the session. On cold days the car runs like a BEAST though.
