- Silicone Cupping vs. Plastic Cups for Cupping Therapy Treatment.
You may be familiar with cupping (aka myofascial decompression) and could recognize its signature circular marks, but have you ever searched online for a cupping set to try it at home? The search results are overwhelming to say the least. The most beginner-friendly cups are either silicone cups or plastic cups? So what's the difference between silicone cups and plastic cups for cupping therapy?
That's exactly what I'm going to go over in this video. I will show you the two types of cups I use for cupping therapy, and talk about the benefits of each one. Then I will provide some context to help you figure out if you want to use silicone cups or plastic cups for your at-home cupping therapy.

I have a 20 piece silicone set and love them. I use it a lot on myself and they really helped after I had full hip labrum tear repair surgery. My leg and hip fascia were very tight after my surgery, so I used them daily to release my fascia and within a month the fascia was regularly released. Thank you for the video!
Awesome! Glad you had success with the silicone cupping!
Thank you for the video. Very in Depth and love how everything was explained.
Glad you like it!
I had cupping done for the first time this week and I can't believe how much better my back feels. I'm going to continue seeing my chiropractor and massage therapist however I'm going to have my wife do the cupping. I photographed my back after my cupping treatment as a reference point and although that may change from time to time at least it gives me a starting point. I'm picking up a set of Rock Pods which are silicone and come in a set of 8 with 4 large/medium and 4 medium/small. The price worked out equivalent to buying two sets of the regular silicone with each set only giving four. Thank you for your advice.
Yes! Isn't cupping wonderful? Rock pods should work great as well for at-home treatments.
I really enjoyed your video! Very informational and you are very down to earth. Very easy to watch. Subscribed! Do you have a cupping tutorial?
This is super helpful, thank you! Will try silicone cups!
Have fun and let us know how it goes!
I’m going to try silicone cups! They look so easy to use for home.
They are! Remember to use some lotion or cream on the skin if you're going to do the dragging technique!
Super helpful! Thank you!
Excellent briefing. Thank you for sharing!
you're welcome, glad it was helpful for you!
Thank you so much for sharing this helpful video, Dr. Baird! I'm a MFR practitioner and would like to integrate cupping into my work. Do you recommend any particular cupping sets for professional use?
Thank you very much
Very informative!!!!!!
You are welcome!
cool video, im sure it will help a lot people :)
Thank you
I have both sets, I like the silicone better as they do not break and last for years. My plastic crack so easy and I have had to trash them after 1-2 uses. :-( I have tried both cheap set and more high dollar and they both the same, cracking.
Sorry to hear you're not having luck with the plastic type, but glad your silicone ones are standing the test of time!
Can we do wet cupping in plastic cups??
Thanks for the great question! Since wet cupping is not in my professional scope, I suggest you ask a professional who practices traditional Chinese medicine and/or acupuncture.
Do the plastic cups break when dropped on a hard floor?
I suppose that's a possibility, but I've dropped several on the floor and they have never broken. Also, the sets usually come with lots of extra cups, so even if one did accidentally break, you would have lots of backups.
@@Riverstonechiropractic Ok cool! Thanks so much!
How assemble pump of cupping
The kit comes with the pump already assembled.
What about glass cups?
Glass cups are effective too but silicone and plastic are the best entry point for home use.
I still don't know?
Silicon cups are less effective?
I have muscle knots on my hips, chest and lats..idk what would work :/
Not necessarily less effective, just less available pressure with the silicone cups.
@@SahithNayudu either set could work, it just depends how much pressure feels good to you and what treatment style you want to use (static vs. sliding or gliding).
@@Riverstonechiropractic Thank you soo much! Ur videos are really helpful!😭❤️
@@SahithNayudu Thank you, I'm glad you're finding them helpful!
