How to Make a Backyard Artificial Turf Field

- It took about 3 months and cost $11,700 in 2012. The end of the video shows how it looks 4 years later in 2016. The reason it costs so much was due to excavation, a retaining wall, lawn pad, a perimeter wood wall and expensive delivery. The turf was a remnant purchased from Tencate for $2,530 which included shipping from Georgia to Kansas. Envirofill ($504) + SofPlay lawn pads ($1,190) were purchased from XGrass. Shipping for those two things were $588. Envirofill is a painted sand product that is less toxic than black crushed tires. The field measures 50' x 30' and uses two pieces of turf with a seam down the middle.
This would be so nice to have in your backyard. Nice job man

That would literally be the best thing that has ever happened to any child that plays soccer, your a great person.
Thank you very much.
“Dad I think I wana play baseball now”
Kenny Grays I’m happy to say that never happened.
hahaha, good one!
Video Guy well even if that did happen you can probably transform that easily into stuff for baseball
I don't have backyard but still I am watching this video
For some reason I thought it was gonna be something you could do within 10 mins
Aidan Hughes same
Try it. Buy some turf and roll it over your existing yard.
Aidan Hughes Yeah if you're wealthy and rich you can do this under 10 minutes
Video Guy what number did u call so they can come fix it
I don't understand.
You should setup mini floodlights and a little stand on the side haha this is amazing man! Keep it up!, can get some 3 vs 3 or even U10's games on that :)
We've set up mobile floodlights before. I think that our neighbors hate it.
Haha, night matches, invite them along to a free match ticket so they don't hate it anymore ;) I'd love to do this once I move into a house with a garden, sadly can't do this in an apartment haha, play indoors i think mine hate me for kicking my ball around.
no, no
have to then make
step one
be rich
great job! Don't listen to silly comments lol anyone would be lucky to have that in their back yard! All the best.
U should make a roof too so during winter time it’s gone be hella guuuud
I tried, but the heavy snow broke the roof.
why am i watching this, im never going to build a back garden artificial pitch...
Amazing work! Great way to keep the kids fit.
Looks good wish I had the room to build something like this
Now that’s a good dad right there. Good job brother
Yes. Nice to see the dude in the mighty Liverpool top.
YNWA
At 1:35 and 1:49 skills were shown😎 ..lovely work thankx for sharing..
I bought instructions from WoodPrix and I builded it very very cheap.
"built it."
HEY....if you have the money why not!! make your kids dream come true...that way they'll lear that working hard you can do anything possible
i just ran into this video awesome video and to be honest i don't think thats a lot of money to invest in your kids and something they love !! love it
nice backyard dude...
spent all that and cheesed out on some real goals..nice job btw
The goals have lasted for 5 years! They do need new nets though.
realy good video man your kids are soooooo lucky
Awesome job! Only thing that was missing was one of your kids wearing a Liverpool shirt. Bad daddy!
We R Liverpool Tra la la la la no
YOU'LL NEVER WALK ALONE!
This is very impressive mate good stuff
Wow I'm definitely going to have one in the future.
Should have got bigger nets for when they're older
why so they can blast the shit out of the ball and break a neighbor's window??? no need for kicking it hard just tap it in
Yeah but how will they get good if they only do that?
Ciaran Spriggs Go to soccer trainings??
at 1:47 that kid dominates the other guy
kids got lucky to train their skill just at the back yard
this is one of the coolest things that i've ever seen.....very well done man
Epic job. Definitely doing this in my garden!
1:34 he hit him with that reverse elastico 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Thanks for keeping it straight to the point subscribed !
I was wondering how maintenance of this is? Living in Florida im afraid of drainage problems and other weather related fatigue.
My turf is a high quality product that still looks good after many years of use and extreme temperature changes living in Kansas. It's flattened a bit from normal use, but I also could have added more infill. The turf is also porous, so water drains through it. However, if there is a heavy rain, it's important that you have a small slope so excess water drains away from your house. The only maintenance required for me is to blow off the leaves every so often.
That's freaking awesome, I want that done in my back yard.
Oh my days 😍
I knew of someone that had this same set up and went on to become a professional player I guessed the money his parents forked out to build him this paid off
One of your children is gonna be a great soccer player in a future.
Nice job man! Also, The boy by the net in 1:38 did a amazing save.
Ficou bem seguro com esses tijolos aí no canto 😂😂😂
A criançada deve rachar a cabeça direto 🙄
Parabéns aos envolvidos 👏👏
Now i know why is europe have so many talented football playera
Love it, awesome job!
Very cool project. Nicely done. I'd like to do this myself but my concern is that with no drainage the turf must become an absolute swamp after a rain storm. I would assume that those pads stay wet for quite some time
There are holes in the turf and there is a slight slope for water drainage. There has never been a swamp after torrential Kansas rain storms.
i wish i have that but i like your video its amazing and cool thumbs up for this video
The things we do for our children lol
*BEST DAD EVER*
So you mentioned you wish you would have used a different gravel. Can you explain what you used and what you wished you would have used? Also I was interested in how the wood barrier is working and if it is rotting.
I don't have an answer regarding the gravel. I chose the cheaper quote and the company delivered something that retained some water. Bad luck. The wood barrier wall has not started rotting. It does a nice job of keeping the ball in play.
wow looks amazing goodwork
Nice! How has the field held up during the four years? is there any regular maintance needed for it? I'm debating between grass and turf for my home field...
The field is great. All I do is blow the leaves off of it.
This is the dream
This is better than Livingston’s artificial pitch. 😁
mad tekkerz at 1:35
Great great job ! but i gotta say, from experience those very short wooden walls are not a good idea, either go back a meter or so and make a higher one or a net works better and cheaper and see through, or no wall at all, coz if anyone trip and fall down on those it would hurt really bad no matter where he hits the walls !
Thank you for the feedback. Nobody has been injured on the wood wall, but I was concerned about it and thought about covering them with something. The good thing about the wall is that it help keep the ball in play and block out some of the leaves from blowing on the pitch.
Only under one condition... You actually need a back yard..
Grass>>>turf, but still cool man
Step 1: make sure you have a massive garden
1:47 dude got rekt
What are your field dimensions and do you recommend any places to buy turf? Thxs
Read full description.
And if it rains?
Artificial turf has holes in it. The water drains through it and through the lawn pad and rocks underneath.
i'm planning to do the same in a few weeks (in indiana) but still couldn't decide whether artificial turf(due to cost) or just grass. you excavated to level the ground? do we need to contact the city for permissions?
Im guessing real grass would cost more in the long run coz of maintenance the other part, Idk lol
Turf is better. Little maintenance and annoyance. Grass feels better tho
I’ve decided to use real grass for now.
Don't make borders by using bricks.it will make injuries
how do you do that?
David Gonzalez be rich
When you build the turf field like that, is the surface permeable? The reason I ask is that my county only gives us a certain amount of non-permeable space to build on. Otherwise brilliant build!
There are holes in the turf for water drainage. It is a permeable surface. However, if there is a very heavy rain, there will be some run-off. So, you have to consider where the water will go. Make sure there is a small slope away from your house.
cool idea
I would play hockey on this....A soft rubber puck, shoes, hockey sticks
And obviously the goal
Is the kid still good at soccer?
They all still play. NCAA Division I college soccer and top local clubs.
@@VideoGuy hows the ground
@@VideoGuy did the gravel shyft at all
Everything is good. No shift.@@mragnostic863
@@VideoGuy Find trial in europe for them. Lots of top teams offering this all the time. However if they won't be good enough for any european top first league, they will for sure gain a lot of experience and be able to play lower divisions or mls.
the only thing you should do also, is to put some nets behined the goals...
Any suggestions for a better rock to use as a base?
consult a local dealer.
Can you tell us what kind of plastic film you used to fuse the underside of the two pieces of turf together and also what kind of adhesive?
The plastic film was provided by the turf manufacturer (Tencate). It was maybe 12 inches wide and a thin clear plastic. You can hear it "crackle" when walking on the seam which I find a little annoying. The adhesive was an all-purpose adhesive... probably Liquid Nails... and has done a great job.
how much did it cost
Read the description.
How come you didn't buy bigger nets?
The nets are a good size for this small field to play 3v3 or 2v2 with no keeper.
that would be good for lax
Garden goals (no pun intended)
so nice
I would put bigger goals and a fence behind them or just build a big wall with opening cut out and net inside
I have 3 Dollars
Wouldn't you have to use ag boots to play on it because if you use fg boots it will ruin them
You can use any type of boots on this turf. It's professional quality.
What a father
This is my dream but just bigger
Was everything optional
You need the gravel under the turf for water to drain. Even though the turf is very heavy, you need spikes to keep it in place. The Lawn Pad is optional.
that looks great!!!!!!!! :)
Was the wooden perimeter easy to install? I’d like to just install a wooden permiter jus around some grass in my backyard
Yes. Drill holes in wood and drive metal spikes through the holes deep into the ground. This will help secure the wood.
So satisfying
I wouldn’t leave my backyard at all
How much did this project cost you?!
Read the entire description carefully.
I'm gonna give this to my principal as soon as I go to high school when I go to high school
Why
No way I read the description and it says you live in Kansas as well do I what part of Kansas do u live in I live in Wichita
Prairie Village.
im guessing KC
bye
How much Indian money cost in this field
I'm sorry, but I don't know the exchange rate or prices in India. Read the description for price in US dollars.
how much did the wall cost. I feel like without the wall and with regular black crushed tires you could do this for less than 8k
I don't recall the cost of the wall, but you're probably right about reducing the cost. Plus, the shipping was super expensive.
Step 1
BE RICH! :|
Does anybody know where do I get workers to do that
Call a landscape company. Or, be ready to do the work yourself.

How do you avoid rot and mold in the wood trim around the field?
I used pressure-treated lumber. It has no rot because it sits on too of the crushed rock.
@@VideoGuy thank you for the reply! That helps a lot with my own project.
Rough cost ???
read the entire description for detailed costs.
Video Guy wowzer expensive
@@TheJohnson861 cheaper than a swimming pool and you can use it all year... in cold Kansas.
That wood wall is a nice trip/fall hazard.
True, but nobody has been hurt so far. Touch wood.
So cool, I like it
Cool come true mine and do one for me
I wish I had a football field in mi house
good but isn't that a lot of money??
It's cheaper than a swimming pool.
If it took that long and the price it’s not really worth it
It's cheaper than a swimming pool and can be used all year.
ya lei la descripcion y no encuentro cuanto le costaron la. cancha
$11,700 dólares en el año 2012.
