Hi, i live there 8 years now and the wet season is also enjoyable, it does not rain every day, in fact the last years have not been wet enough !! The windy season or dry season can be cooler and the wind can be a bit much sometimes..Generally the climate is super mild and nice...
We heard it has been much dryer during the wet season over the past few years. The weather is changing everywhere. We're planning a return during the wet season 👍
Thank you for sharing! I hope to visit one day! In the meantime, HELLO from Seattle (Seattle used to be a very rainy city, but much sunnier now, too)! :)
Just found this video and yes, Vilcabamba really stands out for being such an international cluster and having so many amazing food options from overseas and at the same time being a small picturesque town

Oh, it's definitely not brutal in the rainy season. It rarely rains all day, often it's beautiful in the morning and the rain comes later in the day/night. Everything turns green, it's still warm, no dust on the dirt roads, truly the rainy season is a lovely time of year in Vilcabamba.
Hola!!!! Gracias por mostrar mi país con tanta pasión. Ecuador es bellísimo. Un país de gente buena y hermosos paisajes. Me gusta ver sus vídeos porque así también me ayudan con mi Inglés. Thank you guys and God bless you!

Many Blessings Upon Your Happy, Loving lives......I hope I run into your two someday in Ecuador!!! Bye from this American with 29 years in expat-ing in rural, Esaan Thailand!!! D
You are all welcome to visit our beautiful Vilcabamba! We will Welcome you with open arms and hearts! I love this video and hope to meet you next time you visit!
Thank you, @Amelia And JP! Greetings from Colorado! 🌸🌲🌸 Vilcabamba looks beautiful, with such stunning scenery! I'm new to your channel, (but binge-watching), and I haven't yet seen you talk about the wildlife of places you've been in Ecuador. Have you gone on any wildlife viewing tours? I guess that Ecuador has quite a few jaguars. Do they come into the towns, or do they avoid people? I'm in Southern Colorado, and we occasionally get bears raiding the trashcans. i also did see a mountain lion walking right down the shoulder of I-25, one night on my way back from Denver. It was about 5 miles North of my house.
Amelia I love you smile! You both are a handsome people! Made for each other! Blessings from COOOOOLD IOWA! I HATE THIS weather ! For me here is only summer 31/2 months and the rest is WINTER! I’m a Mona from Ecuador ! That means I’m from the coast region! You should visit Riobamba! Near the Chimborazo! I went to nuns school there, lived inside with the nuns! Visit on April 21st! Parades and fiestas! Go to Ambato also the land of fruits and flowers! Enjoy Ecuador! I’m glad you like it! I do too!
I live here in Cotacachi Ecuador and have lived here for 9 years. I went with my husband to visit his family in England. We visited the moors, beautiful, outrageous rolling hills and the seasides are to die for, sheep roaming about, wild horses that come right up to the cars and the pubs have the best food, the Sunday roasts that all restaurants serve are amazing. Now that's beauty, I find Ecuador to be a lot of cement, dry land and not much to do. England has so many things to do for retired couples, dancing, going to pubs meeting so many people, archery, lawn bowling, so many many things that they don't have here. If I could afford it, I would move there in a heart beat.
This place is definitely on my short list. Funny... I noticed the fireworks in Costa Rica several times for no apparent reason... PS... Love the bloopers... (o:
Hi Guys! Very curious about life in Ecuador. My hobby is recreational gold panning. Have you run across anyone enjoying this activity in your circle of friends?
It's good just to know you have a place you can go when it's the rainy season in Cuenca! I wonder why the rainy season is different...just the altitude? Glad you enjoyed yourselves so much!
I think it's a combination of altitude and different mountains. Not too far northwest of Vilca it's like a desert and east of Vilca it's a rainforest. It's a very diverse country.
Amelia And JP - Ecuador has very little desert compared to Peru and Chile which has endless miles of it. Our little country is an equatorial emerald! 🌹🌺🌈☀️🍌🥑🥭🌽
Amelia And JP - Eventually you can do videos in the Amazon. They have gorgeous lodges for foreigners with spectacular views and comforts. You definitely want to go there in the dry season, otherwise you’ll grow moss behind the ears. lol A virtual steam pot. 🌴🦜
Don’t be afraid to say it. Cuenca can be damn cold like Quito. If that’s not cold enough try Tulcan in the province of el Carchi, that’s freezing but has a beautiful cemetery that’s very well known.
Amelia And JP - it was over 90 degrees here in Florida today, and people in Ecuador call Guayaquil hot, they have no idea. I did a couple of things in the garden and came in soaked from perspiration. This would be hell on earth without air conditioning. I lived in Ibarra for one year and the weather was dry, warm and perfect, Otavalo nearby is cold like Quito or Cuenca with sunny days in the summer. Where on this planet can you choose climate according to altitude within a short distance? Vilcabamba is slightly higher than Denver without snow out the ying yang, can’t ask for better! 🌈
Hello Amelia and JP. This is Solon from Houston, and I want to ask about Vilcabamba's cost of living. I've begun my process of moving to Cuenca, Ecuador largely based on information from your's and Don Shader's information videos and I thank you very much. Is the cost of living in Vilcabamba lower than that of Cuenca's? Are their a lot of US expats their? Does it have nice apartments? Thank you, Solon (Greek name, sounds like "Soe-lun".)
I know this is going back in time for your videos but I'd like to get your opinion, you have traveled all over Ecuador and seen what makes each part special, but focusing on Vilcabamba which I see as special because of its quaintness, size, & pristine beauty, and that's what makes it special, I also have seen this same quality where I have lived in places like Kauai, Hawaii and even Northern Michigan and with their special size and great vibe they were sold and bought over and over again and lose their special quality and became tourist sights and not the local economy but bought out by influential people. Everyone has the right to do what they want but the local people and the Shangri la quality of the little secluded Vilcabamba is online, being sold like a hustlers auction, It may make a lot of money for the developers and realtors but after it's been bought and sold where does the uniqueness go, what happens to the local lifestyle? So, what's the fate of the quaint unique little towns like Vilcabamba, Loja, and close mountain towns?
*FACT: The relative humidity is high YEAR-ROUND everwhere in Ecuador*, including in the so-called coastal "deserts" in the southwest where rainfall is extremely low for about half the year. I've done countless searches on sites that provide meteorological data by city, and the lowest average relative humidity I've found for anyplace in Ecuador is 68% during the driest month of the year. I would really love to be proved wrong, but so far I haven't seen any data that does that.
We haven't spent any time in Loja so we can't say for sure. It's a lower altitude and warmer than Cuenca, but that's about all we know. We're planning to visit there for a week later this year or early next.

We felt very safe there. It’s a small town and everyone knows everyone. I think gringos put out a lot of misinformation to scare people off. We received several nasty messages from gringos telling us to go away and stop filming. We don’t share that fear based scarcity mentality.
@@AmeliaAndJP thanks for your response! I experienced a lot of the fear mongering from gringos within Costa Rica before we moved here, but that hasn't reflected our experience here at all. Thanks for sharing your experience and offering a nice counterbalance to some of the other messaging.
We didn't see a lot of gyms in Vilca, but we weren't specifically look for them. There are lots of parks and trails for hiking. And lots of taxis and buses.
We didn't do much shopping so we can't say much about the cost of living. The taxi minimum was $1.25 compared to Cuenca's $1.50. The food at restaurants was about the same as Cuenca, but we only ate in the gringo spots and they charge a little more than the local hangouts. We're going to stay in an AirBnB on our next trip so we can cook our own food. That'll give us a better idea of costs.

I enjoy your videos, but you didn't see Vilcabamba before all the influx. If you were to talk to those that Vilcabamba is their ancestral home you would find another story. They are marginalized now and live mostly in the outskirts. While all the old and some new hippies skip to the beat of a different drum. It is no longer the place it used to be, and I did one don't like my people being priced out of living in their own city. Part of the blame goes to the government that should have protected them and part lies to those living g there now that didn't take the time go find out the going rates for rentals etc and paying what for them was very cheap. You do a great job, but please don't get ripped off and at the same time hurt those who's town your changing. (Speaking in general, not you specifically).

How are your teeth
