You can also just TURN OFF the PS4 and safely remove it when the light bar goes off.
No, that doesn’t work. The hard drive still reports that it was shut down improperly when you turn the system back on...... or at least mine does
@@JerelB You are correct mate and to this day it still does that
Didn’t work it’s a scam all of my storage is GONE
So the external drive doesn’t ask to reformat again when switching consoles, causing deletion of data?
Did you plug your extended storage in before you turned the new system on or after you logged into the new system and set up your account?
Short Answer: Yes, you just have to disconnect it before removing
well then it's just like a flash disk when we plugged in on laptop or PC
Saved me 8 minutes. Thanks hun
My PlayStation stopped working and Im getting a new one but I couldn’t disconnect it because my PlayStation stopped working so will it still work or no
@@ttk_void3851 It may delet your games bro
Thank you very much for making this video! I just recently bought myself a brand new PS4 Slim to upgrade from my original 500gb PS4. If I didn't watch your video, I would've simply disconnected my 2tb external hard drive from my original PS4, and connected it to my new PS4. I didn't know I had to actually tell the console to stop using that USB device. Had I not watched your video, I might've lost all my data for games I had installed on my hard drive. Thanks again!
No problem. Glad I could help👍
You can also disconnect the hard drive if the PS4 is turned off, though I’d personally be reluctant to disconnect it when it’s in standby unless you’d already told it to stop using the hard usb drive (as detailed in the video).
n did it work wz u right ?
great video just the info l needed to transfer data from my PS4 slim to my new Pro saves me a ton of time thanks again
mjac28 No worries. Glad I could help.
mjac28 Deos it also transfer your game files?
Goose GamesHD Actually, no, game saves aren't transferred. When you play the game, the save will be synched from the cloud, though (assuming you are online).
mjac28 and money 💰
mjac28 .
This video was sent from the gods. Thank you so much. Trading my PS4 for a PS4 pro. Can’t tell you how much I was freaking out about the usb. Have a lot of games on my usb. This brings me comfort.
Thank you for this video. I'm getting a new PS4 and was worried about having to wipe the external and have to redownload everything all over again. I have like 60 games on mine. THANK YOU!
hey
Very good and reassuring video. My launch PS4 Pro's disc drive just broke and I need to get a new one. Good to see that I can just take my external hard drive and plug it into the new system!
Cheers. Glad the video was useful 👍
Was wondering about this, thanks for the video mate!
doug No worries. Glad it was of use.
Thanks man.EXCELLENT walkthrough
Maisters official Cheers. Glad it helped 👍
Thanks for pointing that out. Will receive my new PS4 Pro console the next days, and was really unsure what to do to get my well filled USB HDD to work on the new system out of the box. I wasn‘t really fond of redownloading about 1TB of data. (Just in case the External HDD wasn‘t bound to a PSN Account, which it obviously is.)
Loenne555 No problem. Glad to help 👍
Let us know how you get on with the new machine.
In 2023 this is still helpfull, i wanted to play some of my games with my uncle on his ps4 and didn't know if that was a thing and if i could just plug in my external harddrive. But thank you very mutch
No problem. Glad I could help.
Thanks for this I’m upgrading to a pro and my games are on a external hard drive. Thanks for this easy to understand video.
LukeCageH4H No problem. Glad I could help you out.
Enjoy the Pro, it’s a definite step forward over the standard PS4 and I’m really happy I bought mine.
You’re a life saver
Hehe. Glad to help.
How do u move saved data to another account? My brother took our PS4 to college and I’m making my new account but idk how to get my data

Great video, definitely coming back to this when I pick up a ps4 pro. Would you know the name of the theme that you used on the ps4 in this video? Is it available for download? Just searched the whole comment section and couldn't find anything related to it and already tried digging through some of the thousands of themes on the store. Looks suuuper nice and I've got to have it
Pee Hole Cheers. I really appreciate the positive comment.
It’s not actually a theme, as such. I took a screenshot when playing Horizon Zero Dawn and set it as my wallpaper. If you have the game it’ll be easy to get something similar as it’s full of shots like this.
Joe Chip think he means the glitter looking one...
Yeah planning to get a PS4 Pro and watch your content. Now that will save me time especially all my digital games will be transfered to my new Ps4 Pro.
I cannot wait for PS5.
thanks man i needed this now i dont need download everything on my new ps4

Thanks for the info, I was thinking about upgrading to the pro and was wondering how the extended storage would work.

im so happy of the possibility, really really big thanks!!!!
Xmarriot No problem at all. Glad I could help you out.
Joe Chip thanks for the react👍
Xmarriot You’re welcome 👍
Amazing man I'm going to get a pro but I was stressing about the hassle of re downloading ALL my games again which made me not upgrade, now I will. Thanks.
Mr. Serr No worries. Glad I could help you out.
Thanks so much for posting this, been wanting to upgrade to a pro and was wondering how the data transfer would work!
daniel swierdsiol No problem, glad I could help. I hope you enjoy your Pro.
Thanks for the clean and simple explanation also I was wandering is there a limit/capacity for the extendended storage drive I can use for ps4 ?
Bilay Kızılcık No problem. Glad to help.
The upper limit on drives is 8TB. That should keep you going for quite a while.
You can only use one
Awesome this is the only video I could find about switching my external PS4 data to a PS4 pro
Glad I could help 👍
Excellent tuttorial. Thank you very much it works perfectly.
Jonathan Fereira That's great to hear. Really glad it worked for you 👍
But make sure the same game is not on the console if it is , system asks you to delete one.
Subscribed!!! Man you are useful and quite knowledgeable.
OBAFWS Meshuggah crazed Cheers. Glad I could be of use. Not sure about being knowledgeable, though. I basically just bugger everything up until I get it right. You guys usually only get to see the last bit 😉
Can someone help me? Is I want to upload the PS4 saved data to my extended storage and I keep getting a error?
Format the hard drive
Tx for the video, now i can play PT again in the PS4PRO.
Not a problem. Glad to help.
thanks for this walkthrough im buying a new ps4 tomorrow
Joe No worries. Enjoy your new console 👍
Thanks
I know this is old, but I'm glad I found it. My fiance and I started borderlands 1 co-op on my ps4, and we wanted to move her saved data to her ps4. We figured we would have to her a hard drive, since mine is formatted to my psn account. We're going to her her own and format it to her account
Do u get ur clips?
Great video Joe, I have a mate with a woeful library so this is good option to use for me. Enjoy yer tea
Jason Lawrence Yeah, it should be a great option if you are going to a mates house and your library is primarily digital. Just bung it on the USB hard drive and take it with you.
Ill pick up a cheap drive is the minimum 250gb cos thats all i would need if im travelling
Jason Lawrence Not sure about minimum size off the top of my head, but it does have to be USB 3 and the maximum is 8 TB. If you've upgraded your internal HDD and still have the original drive lying around, a cheap option might be to get a USB 3.0 enclosure. That way you'd get a 500GB drive for next to nothing.
yep its def 250gb just confirmed that, I do not have a spare drive unfortunatly
Jason Lawrence Glad you found it. I was gonna have a look after I dropped my kid at school, so you saved me the effort 👍
Shame you haven't got a spare drive knocking about. 256GB drives are really cheap now, though.
Vert usefull video man, thanks for uploading it!
No problem. Glad it was useful 👍
This is great. So if I move all my saved game data to the cloud, and have all my downloads on the External when I transfer my saves will be there correct?
Lyle Chipperson That’s the idea, yes. Just make sure your saves and trophies are backed up first and you should be good to go.
@@JoeChip you the man!
Lyle Chipperson Thank you. After the last couple of weeks I’ve had on RUclips, it’s good to know that I’m still able to help people out.
Joe Chip What do you mean trophies, if you don’t mind me asking? Aren’t trophies tied to your PlayStation Network account?
xXMajorLGamerXx Yes but you can also back them up manually, which is worth doing if you are planning on (for instance) putting in a new hard drive. It is possible for the online trophies to not be right up to date (if you’ve not been able to connect to the network etc), so it’s always worth doing a manual update just to be sure.
Thanks for making this video. very helpful.
No problem. Glad it was of help.
thanks thats awesome

Thank man this saves me a tons of hours of redownloading content. I just need to plug my new external hdd to new PS4 pro. Cool.

Joe Chip how?can u teach me?
Overlord02 I thought the video covered it. If there’s something I missed, let me know and I’ll attempt to rectify it.
Joe Chip i mean, for example,my friend have free digital game like fortnite or warframe, can i bring my usb extended storage to his home and copy the game to my extended storage?and then, transfer it again to my internal storage?
Myfriend ps > extended storage >my internal ps4 storage
Overlord02 No, because the games are tied to your account. The only way would be if your friend came over and logged on to your machine.
Well done man, helped a lot!
Same as God knows how many other comments here but yeah nice geezer, exactly what the doctor ordered. Took delivery of an extortionately over priced 500 million Pro today, and did all those steps with the external HDD before wiping the old PS4 last night so hopefully when I fire up my new pride 'n joy in a minute and do all the initial set up everything will work fine when I connect my external....top man thank you and I've just subscribed too of course 😉
Charlie Zobel Cheers. Comments like this make RUclips worth doing.
Hope you enjoy that new PS4. It looks stunning.
Joe Chip yeah thanks I will do, well I already am as it's really the mutt's nuts. Just wish I'd have thought about all the screen savers and personal touches I wiped off the old one last night because it seems I could have easily mover em over to the new'un. I've done all the set up so going to connect the external, fire her up again and see what happens
Charlie Zobel good luck mate. Hope it all works and you can enjoy it for years to come. Well, until the PS5 drops anyway 😉
I was scared I had to reformat my hard drive to my new PS4 and lose all my data. This video is very helpful thank youuuu
No problem at all. Glad I could help 👍
If you want to transfer save data or add ons from say an old ps4 to ps4 pro, you have to go to USB storage devices, manage content then press the options button and select what application you want to transfer to your new console.
That's the backup process, though. It's not what this video is about. This is looking at moving a usb hard drive, that is being used to store games and apps, from one PS4 to another.
Totally agree. Also, not criticising the video at all. I found that you also need to sign in to your own account to access the content on the external drive. (I went from old ps4 to a pro and couldn’t use any of the data until i was signed into my profile)
@@jonathenlloyd9506like sign in into psn?

Thank you for the video... Buying the upcoming God of War bundle and wanted to know if all my digital games would be playable from my external Hard Drive if I connected it to the Pro... Question answered & great video‼️
cmilton32 No worries. Glad to help. I’m really looking forward to God of War. It looks like a lot of fun.
Nicely done. I am guessing all users linked to ps4 with external hard drive attached can disconnect hard drive and bring it to another system as well?
jonathan pope Yep. As long as you log on there shouldn't be any major issues. Do note that if you take a USB HDD to another PS4 and the machine already has a copy of any games/apps installed to the internal drive, you will be prompted to delete the games/apps from one or other of the drives.
Awesome vid. also just wondering Would this also work with external SSD
Cheers. Glad you liked it.
I see no reason why an external SSD shouldn’t work as long as it has enough capacity. It should also speed things up a little.
Oh thank god I won't have to re-download 3Tb of data when I get my new silent ps4 pro. :)
I does speed things up a lot when changing consoles.
how silent is that ps4 pro now😂
@@amgdiablo It's dead silent, because I didn't buy it. I kept my old 1st gen pro, and learned to live with it, with the top lid off.
Just got a pro, this video was a big help

Hi there, thanks for the video. I’m wondering if the transferred game can be accessed by a different account holder from the original?
Wait if I’ve been using an extended storage device for a long time then had to reset my ps4 to factory settings, can I still access the saved data in those games on the extended storage?

I have a question. Will this work if I backup my PlayStation 4 data in system storage to a USB storage device. And then transfer it to my other PlayStation 4 through that same USB device...
Awesome you answer my question.
ReplicaProWrestling Nice one. Glad to help.
Thanks mate very helpful
Hey dude do i have to get like 1tb usb drive
Great video, I had been wanting to know if this worked for a while. One quick question though, around 8:13, where you show the information about the game, two things caught my attention:
1 Valid period (end) 4/2/2018 19:44
2 Remaining time 312 days
What does that mean? Is the game or the credentials going to expire or something?
Гомер Гомерович Cheers.
I tried to see what you were referring to but I'm not sure the time stamp you gave is correct as it corresponds to the end of the video.
I'll try and watch through it tomorrow and find the sequence you refer to but, in the meantime, if you could have a look too, that would be great.
There should be no expiration date on bought games, though.
The game he used to demonstrate this must have been one that he downloaded for free as a PS Plus member, you can only access the free games PS Plus provides while your membership is active so the time remaining refers to the time remaining on his PS Plus subscription.
thanks so much this helped alot!
thank s for tip, and also thanks for sony (PS) group for possibility
great video. made my day

Very helpful thank you much
Tokeup024 No problem. Glad to help.
I like with PlayStation you can upgrade the storage when you want so if you low on money and want a PlayStation you can get a cheap one and upgrade storage when you get the money
It's definitely something that has improved things in console gaming. You can do the same with the Xbox too. And I suppose the same can be said for the Switch, although starting with a miniscule amount of storage and allowing upgrades through SD card isn't quite the same.
i have a USB am trying to save date to Another PS4 it keep saying there is no save data when i saved it right on the USB have you had this problem and my stick is Formated
This is all I needed that’s it literally like that’s it I’m getting a ps4 slim cause my ps is a jet so that’s what I needed
Glad I could help. And I hope you enjoy your new slim.
Great video but the only problem is that you have to use the account that it was downloaded from or if the other person had bought it
Yes. All software is linked to the account that purchased it.
Thank you, great video. Just a question: when log on in the new system and ask if want to transfer data, ¿do i cancel that process and proceed to connect the external hdd?
Sorry, I’m not sure what you mean about transferring data. Are you saying the PS4 is asking you to transfer data when you log on? Could you give me the exact wording of the message?
ROIGHT...AS YOU CAN SEE... haha awesome vid mate thanks for the help :)
No problem. Glad I could help 👍
Oh, and nice impression 😉😂
@@JoeChip bahah excellent accent fam!
Okay... why didn’t you talk about game data as well? Does this apply to game data too?
For me it is saying
Cannot use this device.
Extended storage requires USB 3.0 or later.
(CE-41902-6)
Even though my E S is 3.0.
OK, so the next thing to consider is this; is your USB cable USB 3.0?
This is like when you take your ps2 game and your memory card to a friend's house and that said friend also has a ps2
So does this carryover your save file as well? As in let's say you were 15% through the game, will it pick up exactly where you left off in the other PS4? And lastly, is it both the game AND your save file that are on this hard drive?
If it does, I'd love to know. My partner and i tried with two different games. We must have had data on both ps4 systems (his and mine) but when we've tried using the external hard drive in the other ps4, it isn't playing from where we left off on the hard drive but is playing from the last time that system was used (if that makes sense)...
Thank you for this much appreciated but I have a question. If I get the PS5 when it comes out , would I still be able to use my external hard drive as long as my ID is being used on the new console? I’m not sure if I’ve worded this right but hope to hear back.
According to what I’ve read, it seems likely but not certain. Sony are planning for most PS4 games to run on the PS5 and for them to be able to run from a usb hard drive, though not all of them will work day one. Sony haven’t stated explicitly that you will be able to transfer your PS4 usb drive to the PS5, though (well, not as far as I’m aware), so do bear that in mind. Also, PS5 games will not install or run from a usb drive due to them being designed to run with Sony’s custom SSD.
Well placed ad 😂
Oh, what ad was that?
Can you Game share from extended storage meaning if I save my game on the extended storage on one ps4(1) n sign into another ps4 (2) n make my account primary on that system ps4 (2) if the games will be available to download? I'm essence I just wanna know if the extended storage will be used as internal in terms of being able to game share via psn accounts
What if your PS4 died. Will I still be able to plug it into a new PS4 since I wasn't able to click stop using extended storage? Also if all my games where saved the external drive what will I be loosing that is on the main hard drive?
P.S. Great video and to the point 👍
There’s a good chance the drive will work on another PS4, though there is a small possibility it won’t. That’s always a risk with hardware failure. There are some things (like saves) which are always kept on the internal drive. If you subscribe to PS Plus, though, there is a good chance that your saves will be backed up to the cloud. Most everything else will be redownload able, so it shouldn’t be an issue.
Thanks for the comment, by the way. Much appreciated 👍
Brilliant thank you for the video awesome!!!
Cheers. Glad it was useful 👍
Thinking of buying the ps5 but for the time being do you think that I could use the external drive for my PS4 then move it to the ps5 I know it’s not out yet but that’s what I was wondering or what about the save data
We definitely don't have any good technology to deal with ps5s that's for sure how big will the data be on those games and still no special disc or reader to save space for your harddrives?
Thank you
Markus Mitchell No problem. Glad to help 👍
Can i move the game from my hard drive to a new ps4 permanently or i need to continue using the hard drive to play the game
You can move the game to the internal hard drive and play from there. You will need to be logged in to play it, though.

Can i put a bought game from the ps4 store in my usb and put it in another ps4 on another account and will it still work
No, sorry.
You sound like a youtube who sould have more than one million subs
Do you have to log in with your info on the second PS4 for it to work?
We bought a game that was not what we thought it was, and we can't return it because it's a download. So I want to see if I could sell it Along with a hard drive
I have a question I hope I can get a reply. I wanna Upgrade my internal hard drive but, can I use my external hard drive to move my things and when I install my new internal can I just copy my things back with the external hard drive on to my new internal???
Can u teach me how to transfer digital games from internal storage to extended storage?
i'm checking this because i need to know if a hard drive I'm having trouble with will be able to be tested on another ps4 before i try formating anything
I did transferred warzone from my cousin ps4 to my ps4 by extended storage but when I play cod in my ps4 there's an update showed to me into the game when I try to update the game it tell me error failed to download the update you get me ?
Are you able to copy everything from the ps4 storage onto the extended storage?
Can you copy the data from. The hard to the ps4?
I want to transfer call of duty warzone data from my friend's ps4 rather than downloading it because its very big
You can do it but your friend will have to own the game to be able to play it (unless you set up game sharing).
Thanks so much
No problem. Glad I could help 👍
My power supply died mid gaming session. I’m really hoping this still works. Getting new PS4 today. I hope it works
your games save to your account anyway, so even if you got a brand new hard drive you could just download the game from console to hard drive again. poor example as you used your account twice
Must you be signed in into play station network to acess this feature?
That's wonderful
But I have a question can we use this method to copy games rather than move it ?
No, sorry. I looked into doing this a couple of weeks ago when I went to a friend's house and we had to move the game/app to the usb drive, disconnect the usb drive, then redownload the game/app to the internal HDD. In fact, it got more involved than that and I want to do a follow up but it's finding a time when we are both free to look into it.
How do u move saved data to another account? My brother took our PS4 to college and I’m making my new account but idk how to get my data
I'm afraid you can't transfer save data to another account. Sorry.
