The PlayStation 5 has now been officially launched in the majority of the world and, although the reception has been mostly positive, there is one feature about the device that has drawn early criticism, namely the storage. Despite the fact that the PS5 arrives with one of the fastest internal storage systems in the world, commercially at least, the storage available appears somewhat limited with 825GB in the base model and once the system software is installed, around 665GB left to play with. To counter this, Sony provided users with the hardware upgradeability on the PS5 install M2 NVMe SSD upto 22110 in length and this allows users to buy off-the-shelf SSD from brands like Seagate, WD and Samsung to increase the base level storage. So, what is the problem? Well, at launch, Sony has temporarily disabled this upgrade feature to the negative cries of many. The hardware upgrades slot is STILL physically available and you can install NVMe SSD drives inside, but the ability to use this expansion slot is disabled in the software at the moment. however, many users including myself, want to know what happens right now if you install an SSD inside the system? Will it see the SSD and/or can you interact with it in the current version of PlayStation firmware at all? So, I went ahead and installed an SSD inside the system to see what will happen and the results are below.

@@Haadi69_911 so u can, or you can download the ps5 version of the game as a lot of games now have a ps5 version from what I've seen, either for a price or free. So instead of transferring, I say just download the ps5 version...it runs a lot smoother, although I haven't felt a difference from the ps4 and ps5 versions of games.

Paused video at 3:45. Just got my PS5 and have an SSD from PS4 with a ton of games on it ready to transfer to PS5. At this moment my Demon's Souls download is at pretty much the same spot as it is in this video. The first thing I did after setup was buy Demon's Souls, when that is done I'll be putting my SSD from PS4 to PS5 😊 Kinda know what to do just confirming it before I do it, thanks for the tutorial.

Can you create folders for ps4 games or is the only option is the grid view? My games are arranged in folders for different genres on PS4 I'm hoping I can do the same here
So I have 27 games on my external hard drive so all I do it take it and plug it into the ps5 and it will work as long as I sing in to the same account and transfer the save data
Correct, you just won't get the fast SSD load speeds unless you move the games to the internal PS5 storage.
However, if the PS4 games have 60fps on the PS5, you will still get 60fps from the external storage.

Thank you for the video NASCompares. My only question is, most of my games (if not all) on extended storage are physical games and not digital. If I migrate to the PS5 with the extended storage and I put in my game disc into the PS5, will it recognize that it's a PS4 disc and therefore open the library automatically showing said game?

My game drive isn't helping or working. It just says manage external storage not format
Followed directions and it wiped my drive, would not let me move the apps. Had to delete them all and reinstall, I could’ve just unplugged and plugged into ps5

What a sec... I can still transfer the games from the drive to the Ps5 so I dont need to use the drive, right?
I have a big question we have a few games instald with our extended storage box so does that mean I have to move them over onto the box or do we even need to do that or do I just simply safley disconnect it and then I can just plug it into the the ps5 and get all those games with no issues at all. I would love someone to answear this question because might be getting a ps5 soon and this is pretty much the only thing im concernd about.

But do you play the ps4 version on your ps5, or for example, if you had Horizon Zero Dawn ps4 version installed on the external hdd, once you plug it in it plays at the upgraded graphics with 60 fps? Or same graphics with 60 fps, or same graphics with 30 fps? ;P
It is the PS4 version, with any few PS5 upgrades (such as 60 fps, if there is any upgrades).

I really need help, cause I had bought an 8TB external hard drive, plugged it in, but won’t let me transfer PS4 games into the 8TB hard drive. Mind I also have a 5TB external drive which has all my PS4 games. When I use the 8TB drive, all PS4 games fade out, while it only lets me transfer PS5 games into the 8TB drive. Please, help?

Hello there. I want to sell my ps4, so I could afford ps5. Can I transfer all saves, trophies and games with usb drive after I sell it?
Can anyone help ? I've just purchased a SanDisk 512gb usb stick with a view to copying PS4 data onto the stick and from there to my new PS5 slim. But pretty soon I ran into problems. I thought I had to format the disk as extended storage before transferring data but after I did just that the PS4 told me that it couldn't transfer the data as the disk was formatted as extended storage. So I re-formatted the disk as exFAT as instructed. I was then able to transfer the data to the USB stick. But when I tried to transfer the data to the PS5 and followed procedure I was met with a message which said 'Your saved data will appear here.' I sat there for half and hour and nothing changed. So, where is my saved data and why won't it appear on the PS5 so that I can then copy it to the new console ??

I have tried this, but my data did not transfer. I downloaded ghost of Tsushima and I had the director’s cut, and none of my story progress downloaded. I also have two copies of Ghost, one being the ps4 and another being the ps5 version and have the same thing fir 2k22. Any thoughts? I am incredibly confused
For anyone that's reading this you have to transfer your saves as well which are separate from the game itself.

@@hudson-9164 I'm offline only (no real need for internet outside of my phone) so I'm not able to use the cloud to transfer saved data. The hdd makes you choose either saved data or the games themselves. Seeing as how I didn't want to fuss with downloading all the patches again I went with the game data.

You can do this with a USB stick or upload saves via ps plus
Just plug in a USB doesn't need to be hsrd drive copy the saves can do multiple like this to and then just transfer the save to the ps5 from the USB heads up with a game like ds3 for me when I did the transfer Cia stick it had to over write my previous save so do it using ps plus if you can and this issue may only apply ds3 tbf but idk hope this helps anyway

The PS4 version can be played on the external storage.
The PS5 version cannot, has to be on the internal PS5 storage.

You can have multiple external/extended storage drives, but only 1x connected at any time

I think it’s just the game itself fortunately if you have PlayStation plus then you can upload all your saved data into the cloud and then you can install it on your ps5
