Unboxing A Rare Japanese Cricket Doll named Amy!

- Welcome to another special unboxing video. This one was most exciting as I opened something I didn’t even know existed until recently. Much is still unknown and to be discovered, but it looks like in 1986 Playmates Toys made a Japanese version of Talking Cricket, but named her Amy instead. I can’t ready the translation but she is called Good Morning Amy.
While very similar in looks, she does have several different features on her face.
This is such a unique doll to find and I’m so happy I found one new in box. She is a great addition to the clubhouse and now she is here archived for all to enjoy for many years to come!
I used Google translate on the box, and the text translates to, “Good Morning Amy! Let’s play and have fun together. Friends with hearts full of dreams”, on the front. The back is just talking about what she can say and what she can do. It’s cool to see all the different kinds of Cricket.

Congratulations! Both on the rare doll and the thousand subscribers. She definitely doesn’t sing as much as original cricket but I think she laughs more than the American cricket.
Thanks! It was definitely a milestone on the channel and true no music yet, but I’m going to record her full tape soon and there’s bound to be some songs! If only I knew what she was saying! Ahhh

Haha yes it seems the consensus is to leave her as is. Even though it’s not the outfit on the box, she seems to have come in that outfit. It really was a cool moment when she came to live and started moving for the first time since 1986.

I never realized how much Cricket got around. heh. Just watched a UK lady unbox her second hand Cricket and be surprised to hear a British accent.
I vote for letting her keep her inbox outfit. It's neat how they worked to try and give her the eyelid fold with that little line and the shape of her eye sockets.
Cool! Lucky too as those tapes are hard to come by!

If you look at her tape you will see Takara, a popular company in Japan…makes all sorts of unique toys and dolls…

This doll is so cool! I had no idea that this doll existed either! That is amazing that she still works after 20-30 years! I might buy a doll off of the German Amazon at some point that speaks German. I have also seen Japanese baby dolls as well. I might buy one off of Ebay at some point. Idk bc shipping is expensive & I don’t have the money rn lol. Thank u for making this video bc I probably would’ve never seen this doll! ^^

I also do videos of my different language dolls talking bc no one has ever seen it before & I know only people in Europe have seen them talking & it is very cool that now I have information about them & With my European dolls I know they’re saying even though if I do not speak Swedish or Italian bc facial movements & other things! Unfortunately I don’t speak Japanese & I had no clue what she was saying either. ^^

I think it would be cool if they had a new version that ran on cds or a flash drive and you could have a book of cds or key chain of flash drives

She is so fun and I love how she’s a little bit different than the American version. I’ve heard of a few clones but haven’t gotten one yet personally. Perhaps I will run by some of them and add them to the channel for comparisons!

My Amy is in working order, but there is a small problem. The mechanism chews the cassette film. I would be grateful if you record a video with instructions on how to fix this problem.
I also have an American Cricket, but it is in perfect condition. I dream of buying Jill, but I haven’t found it yet.

Oh yay! Thank you so much for sharing this as nobody knew she existed! I was very lucky to just find one out of the blue so quickly. I love you still have yours! Ugh but I hate she’s eating tapes. That’s the worst. I’ve not had to fix one myself, but it has to do with the pinch roller. So if you open the deck and play it without a tape, you will see it come down. It basically pulls the tape out of the cassette itself. It might just needed a good cleaning! Yes Jill is fantastic but so expensive and hard to find. I have faith you will find one eventually though. Don’t give up hope! 🙂🙂

late comment but i remember finding one in my grandmas old closet in the attic it was in japanese and another one in the basement but in a british accent im from the philippines and finding cricket dols specially back then dolls like these are not cheap but then my grandmas mom took a pic of jill,cricket and corky and they were arounnd 7k php now on ebay their 20k php+
Wow! The Japanese version and British. So rare. The cricket in the UK is almost the same as the US version. Mainly for her it’s the British accent tapes that are hard to find.
That’s cool about Jill too. I wonder if she was French!

Hey! I fixed my cricket by replacing her bands since her mouth didn’t move, and now it moves but it isn’t lipsyncing. it’s just constantly moving even if she’s not talking. have you had this problem? i’ve heard you talk about things that are messed up with the circuit board that you would have to do diagnostics on and i don’t have the stuff for that either, do you think it’s related to that?
Hmm it could be the board but possibly some other things to try. Clean the tape head where the cassette tape touches to play. You can get the metal part to pop out if you hit play with no tape in the player and the door open. Just clean it with some household rubbing alcohol. Also use that alcohol to wipe down all the battery terminals as well. See if those tricks work!
how were you able to import her?, i wanna buy something close to amy XP
I got her through eBay and magically somehow didn’t have to pay any additional import fees. Only cost me $25 in the end! I’m still shocked at how fast and easy it was to make this purchase.

Okay I’m done, my Japanese isn’t the best but I think I was able to understand most of it properly lol
Also the outfit, a lot of Japanese released dolls would come in different clothing than the version made for the American market look at in box Japanese exclusive vintage Barbie’s, a lot came dressed in different outfits then their original us versions! Yours is most likely brand new

I just love the hunt! I use google, any search engine, all the secondary market sites. This doll I was tipped off on right here on my channel by a lovely subscriber.
Australia has to be hard to track these older dolls down. I know a guy in New Zealand buys up all the Jill’s!

Ah yes the collector in me always struggles, and she was hella expensive. But, there’s virtually zero content for her out there anywhere online. So I decided to open her so I could share her with the channel and everyone. She’s too cool to keep hidden away!
Why is her name Amy?
I'm thoroughly convinced she was the prototype for Amazing Amy who was released in 1998 by the same company: Playmates~ 🤷♀️ As for her school uniform / outfit. It's similar to actual Japanese school uniforms especially with the plaid skirts back then. Also Japan has alway's taken there educational system seriously along with dress code having to wear school uniforms where as over here (North America) the only time I had to wear a school uniform in the 90's was when I went to Christian private school my cousin's on my mom's side were going to catholic private school & had to wear plaid jumpers / plaid overall dresses very similar to Japanese school uniforms. 🤷♀️ I was confused when transferring to starting public school as to what to wear so ended up wearing my old school uniform at public school & was told by one of the teacher's: Your allowed to dress casual here if you want. 🤷♀️✌️
Ami is so cool! I think you should keep her in the school uniform because she is Japanese, and education is megaimportant over there. I'm looking forward to the full Japanese tape, as well as more British Cricket content! So excited.
