  • A quick time lapse showing the installation of tongue and groove plywood and pull-down attic stairs in our large garage attic to turn it into useable storage space! The attic space is 31ft long x 11ft wide and 6ft tall in the middle!
    We're finishing our basement!
    We will upload short videos of the progress and add them to the "Finishing the Basement!" playlist. When the project is complete, we will release a video showing the entire process! Lots more to come!
    We have quite a bit of stuff stored in our basement, so the first step is getting rid of a bunch of it and finding / creating new storage space for the rest of it.

    I want to do this in my own attic so bad. I've been slowly making a floor with scrap boards, but haven't made a real effort because our crawl space is so huge we don't really need the storage. But a usable attic just seems so nice to me. :)

      Definitely. When we built the house, we originally had standard trusses designed for over the garage. My wife smartly suggested that we inquire about changing the design of the trusses to allow for useable attic space. I'm glad she did!

    Add a window, big enough to get the bicycles out, and use a style window that comes apart

    Consider flipping the direction of the pull down ladder the other way. So when you carry big things up, you have more of a landing instead of running right into the wall at the top.

      It was much more convenient for frame it this since the opening fit between the roof trusses. I also have a canoe hanging from the ceiling which would get in the way of the stairs went the other way.

      @@HivetoHome I meant rotate the stairs 180 degrees in original opening. Looked like you had a little more landing on the opposite end.

      Ah, I see. Yes, more of a landing in the attic but we put them this way since the ladder had more clearance in the garage facing this way.

      @@HivetoHome I see. Nice job by the way. I’m looking to tackle my unfinished side of the attic in the near future.

    We’re thinking about doing this. How tall is your garage ceiling?

    • @HivetoHome
      @HivetoHome  Год назад +1

      The ceiling is 10ft. The attic (in the middle) is about 7ft.
