Oh man - I had to create a new access hatch in the hallway of my 1960 house, because the original was in a small closet and had a roof truss above it and offset 250 mm from the center line, meaning you had to be a contortionist to get into the roof space. Add in the typical shallow-pitch roof of these Kiwi houses and the only place you can sit upright is in the middle. Every time I have to go into the roof space (upgrading the existing lights to recessed LEDs), I am forever thankful I did this 14 years ago!

Use white, LED Christmas lights in the attic space. It will distribute the lighting more evenly, be a lot cooler, and take up less space as you can staple them to the peak areas of the attic space and you will never have to replace them. You can get them on clearance, the day after clearance at our nearest department store.

Yellotongue slots together. This means if you ever have to take one board out to access cables you have to take out every board on the tongue side of that board too.

Was hiding roof access in cupboards a trend in NZ in the 90s or something? Getting into our roof space is via a hidden hole like that, except its put right at the edge of the house so you have to go up & bend lest you want to scone your head on the roof going up. Suffice to say I went up once, and haven't bothered going up again ;-)

Hi Scott, recent subscriber and tradesman from the UK, been binge watching your videos recently -- always interesting to see construction norms across the world. I bought my festool tracksaw second hand a little over a year ago and it's probably the wisest tool purchase I've ever made. I had the chance to use a workmates makita tracksaw on site and while there's not really much difference between the two I found the festool to be much more convenient in use. The depth stop on the festool is much better than the makita and I found the dust extraction was better too. Definitely agree with you on the price though, the makita rails can be used with the festool tracksaw and are about half the price of the festool rails. Not sure what prices are like in NZ but festool tools are a considerable price gap higher than makita dewalt etc.
Been really enjoying your stuff since I've stumbled across your channel, thanks for the videos!

I want to buy a 18v drill and impact driver set and a circular saw. I would buy Makita but it’s too expensive so it is either between DeWalt and Bosch. Which one would you recommend?

Personally between those two brands I'd go for Bosch.
DeWalt has loads of power but Bosch is better made, sovtake your pick.

If you're only a casual home handyman and on a strict budget just get the Ozito 3 or 5-piece set.

Haven't tried either sorry. Maybe check the tool range of each and decide based on the tools you might need

The makita track saw just needs a riving knife for those thicker cuts. I herd from a bloke they couldn’t add it to the saw due to festtool putting a patient on it, don’t know if it’s true or not. On another subject matter, what’s your thoughts on the new 2019 Milwaukee tools releases.

I saw some of the Milwaukee line up on Instagram and that 18 gauge finishing gun looks awesome

Excellent video! There's nothing like working for yourself, you get to take your time and do it right. No boss over your head telling you to skip certain steps to make it faster! Can't wait till I get my truck and open up my own small handyman business.
