Couple pointers from a guy who has an 02z.... while youre "in there" replace the throwout bearing with one with a remote bleed hose. The factory design allows dust from the clutch to contaminate the fluid over time. Even gently driven cars have it happen and when it does, the clutch will stick to the floor. Other option is to keep an eye on the fluid color and change it with a suction gun. pull out the old black fluid, add new, pump the clutch a few times, and repeat till its clear. With the remote bleeder you can flush the system and add new in just a few min... also, above the clutch pedal theres an additional spring that adds to the problem that should be removed. its there to reduce pedal effort but only serves to make the pedal stick to the floor sooner with dirty fluid. I noticed little extra effort but better clutch feel. The daytime running lights get super hot and melt the plastic housing. Regular LED's will cause the turn signals to hyper flash so one with resistors are necessary. Check the rear sway bar links and replace with better ones if worn and make a clunk sound. Thats everything thats caused me problems since brand new and 64k miles. Awesome cars!
Thanks a lot man! I'm definitely replacing the throw out with the trans out and def doing the remote bleeder - idk how anyone bleeds it without! I will take a look into those other issues you mentioned as well
adding oil in a cylinder will naturally increase psi. what the oil test is to do is determine whether you are losing compression via the piston and or rings or through the valve and our seats
Sorry to hear about the engine. Always a concern buying a severely modded car. Stuff happens and you'll get it sorted out. Best of luck on the engine rebuild!
It still baffles me - the ring is not broken nor are there any broken pieces in the engine. We think that cylinder had way too much fuel and it started to eat itself over time due to the fuel washing oil away from the cylinder walls. I cant wait to get it back on the road, I'll be sure to make some more videos soon.
My 01 z06 burns oil. It was a known issue on some of the LS6’s. I got 110000 on mine before the #1 lifter collapsed and trashed the cam. Now I get to pull mine. I did my tear down just like you thank God for ziplock and sharpies. Subbing...

Hello just bought my first Corvette a 2000 C5 ls1 not Z06 and also put alot of money into it, tires, bearings, control arms, weather stripping, redid the seats, thankfully nothing too serious yet, got a great deal on it.
It wasnt 100% blue at first, looked to be a mix of oil and too much fuel, which the fuel part I was hoping to be a tune but I was wrong. Be sure to subscribe for the rebuild
Oh man I just went through this, but I didn't know my engine was bad until it lost oil pressure 6 months later XD. I had massive consumption and thought it had to do with an improper installation of a PCV kit. Oil contamination definitely leads to bearing failure. LS2 shortblock kits are pretty economical and a nice performance boost. Don't be ("I didn't want to screw anyone over" => puts truck engine in corvette) that guy!
I was happy to see you had 56 psi of oil pressure, so I was thinking it should be easy to rebuild without too much expense, but then you mentioned your lube oil had been diluted with fuel. Depending on how long it ran like that will determine what was damaged. Look at it this way, you got a great deal on the Vette. If you have to major rebuild everything, you'll have a zero mile engine in the FRC style Corvette that you mentioned you really liked. Now would be a good time to figure out exactly how fast you want to go, and build your new engine accordingly. Best of luck
Thanks man! You are right on the money. Next video will go over exactly what we will do to the engine based on what I want to do with the car. This has definitely been a learning experince and want to share it with others. Based on current projections, I will still be well under budget for a typical stock c5 z06 so it's all good!

I ended up getting new injectors that flow more fuel, takes care of any issues the old ones may have had and allows for.xorredt duty cycle due to the increased power numbers :)
It's probably not the tune because the problem is in one cylinder only. I'd say leaky injector or previous owner installed wrong rings on that cylinder. Anyway a good candidate for nitrous on that cylinder.
Haha the ring gap is asking for boost! I think it's a combo of tune that washed down all the cylinders and a bad injector on the cylinder that got eaten up bad. Either way, I wanted a project and I definitely got one! I'm getting the engine back this week so I should have a ton more videos coming out. Thanks for watching!!

The car's owner has recently told me to "come up with a number"....just looking for some perspective. I've recently gotten into some small projects with the car that have snowballed into larger ones - I've been chasing fuel leaks as the whole car is done in stainless braid. I dig your videos. I've been kicking the idea around of starting a 'video blog' / youtube channel of sorts...you've stirred that up for me again. Lol @@Garagetopics

I went to start it on the second day and anti freeze filled the cyl and snapped a rod, im not sure why this engine is prone to this but i got a used lt1 and then had issues a year later with the cooling, probalby a head gasket. Id upgrade to an ls1 atleast ( or are u talking aout the new gen LT1?)

Not sure, this car had a "copy and paste" tune which I found out after I got the car. It's all good though, it has a lot of aftermarket good parts I need anyways. If it was a bone stock car I'd be upset but with the mods it had it still was a good deal imo
What was your approach when pulling the engine lol? Everything I see says don’t pull it out the top~ just tackle it one bolt at a time? Did it go back in as easy? Mad respect for tackling something you’re unsure of.
You don't need an LS7. These cars are only 3000-3100 lbs. A HCI bolt on LS6 will make 550 no problem. OR....you can go forged internals with your rebuild then boost it.

You know, if a tune is that bad then all cylinders would be washed out with too much fuel, and at least 1 bank. But seeing as how it's only that single piston, and all other 7 were perfect makes me think it wasn't the tune and that you probably had a leaky injector. There's no way for the tune to only be "bad" on one cylinder and not the others at least in that same bank.
I believe it was a combo, every cylinder was washed out due to too much fuel in the tune, but one cylinder that was bad definitely had something bad going on with the injector for sure
