I admire these guys so much. The amount of time they put into music videos is insane. The sheer amount of math and calculation that had to go into that video is absolutely incredible.
Yeah, they're creative alright. So many other bands and artists use the term "creativity" trying to look interesting and hip. This guys are the real deal, this is how you create stuff, by being the first to do something cool, never done before. You're not creative if you sing a song, play an instrument or draw a painting or whatever other artistic thing. You need to actually come with GOOD ideas never done before. That's creativity.

Just to be clear. Those printers aren't printing everything in real time. They've been loaded with the Pre-printed paper and they're just feeding it out when directed to by the special effects operator. Still amazing, but they don't have to deal with changing ink cartridges or setting up a bazillion print jobs.
So they are printing out "empty" documents at the right time to eject the pre-printed papers? That explains the speed, and is a great idea. Nonetheless the synchronizing was an awesome job

I was thinking the same thing, but I agree with the pre-printed theory, especially since the prints were borderless, something you’ll never achieve by just printing
Maxwell Fong Almost all inkjet printers made in the last 15 years or so are capable of borderless printing. That said, desktop inkjets couldn’t print fast enough for this, so I’m sure they were just ejecting preprinted sheets. (Using custom software I’m sure, since that’d be needed to hold the sheets in place instead of them just falling to the floor immediately.)
Every time I watch this video I can't help but think about the music video for Peter Gabriel's Sledgehammer. Not just the fact that it's "stop-motion" but the feel of it, the vibes and the energy behind it. The song also sounds like something Peter Gabriel would make. Honestly would have been 1000x as satisfying in real time. The sound of the printers all going at once was super satisfying. Sad that we'll never get to see that.
Except for the part where they had to wait for the papers to be swept up and formed into piles. That may have taken a few minutes, at least, for each pile -- but yes, it would have been cool to see the printed versions of themselves being replaced from printer to printer - moving like paper animations.
my old 5th and 6th grade science teacher showed these videos in class, he showed us the one where they are in an air plane and the one moment a few years ago, its bc of him that i still watch these videos because this channel is one giant masterpiece
once you can hack the printers to be assignable, and control their single page feed command, this becomes possible. Once you realize that the printers only job is to produce pages on demand and not create the art, the possibilities become huge. This one made my geek heart tingle.

Every year their videos get more and more creative. This is mind blowing. Been a fan since I was 13 now I'm 21 and still enjoying your music and your videos.
I remember when they were a tiny band with no deal opening for They Might be Giants (and, in 2001, failing to do so because the venue's sound was broken at the show I was at). Their merch guy pushed their first EP on me at the time, and I listened to it quite a bit after that. I caught them opening--this time for real!--in early 2002 and they *still* didn't have a record, nor any music videos 'tall...but I got their second EP! (their first album came out later that year) Though advanced maths, I am able to calculate that this means you were five at the time I was first exposed to their music. I've also used those skills and numbers to calculate that I feel rather old now.

Is there a different Tom Cruise pool movie I'm not thinking of 'cause I'm pretty sure he shoots pool with his left hand in The Color of Money. He does often wield a gun and other impressive things with his non-dominant hand in other movies though.

If they could invent better music, they'd be onto something.
They have to do something to hide the fact their music is not that great.
Alexis Ramsés López Castro Darn it. I was going to say something to that effect just to be snarky.
I dunno. I mean I've seen a Kylie Minogue video that was more inventive than this. And let's not forget just about every music video from the 90s. Don't gets me wrong, it's creative and all, but let's not get carried away here.
This video was released the week my dad died. I hadn’t thought about it since then. We spent one evening after he passed away watching OK GO videos and just kind of marveling over humans and what they can do.
I feel like this a cool video idea that Michael Scott would steal to try and sell paper for Dunder Mifflin.
They've come a long way since treadmills...
Grendel Khan s
YESSSSS
There needs to be one using printers, treadmills, etc etc
OK GO never disappoint me. Stay amazing.
This video doesn't cease to amaze me. The concept of using printers to create a motion background. The creativity and scale is mind blowing.
i have never been more tripped out by a video in my life
Ezok Then you've barely seen crap.
You need todo watch more Ok Go videos!!!
Watch "I won't let you down", "WTF" or "the writing on the wall"
whatup
You guys never stop surprising me, So creative, the videos are really beautiful, A masterpiece!

Man of Matt No you delusional person.
Flashy Paws I notice! I LOVE this song, I've watched the video 5 times, but have let it play while just listening to the song about 40 times! They are such a great band!
maxdrags3
Me delusional person?
Best...AD...Ever
Devin Dykstra before you dismiss it I would suggest giving the NEW HEWLETT PACKARD 8700 printMAX a try! Cyber Monday sales right now!
Devin Dykstra
I still prefer Morton Salt ☺.
Can you fucking speak English?
☣droid☣
Yet,.. We find You Here.
Curious.
Making this an ad is the only way they could fund this AWESOME creative project. Plus, all of the excess money left over will be donated. If you just see it as art/music, the ad part is basically invisible.
3:05 Me and the boys in creative mode
uhh i'm gonna make beach in the minecraft right now
This should get comment of the year
Lmao
lol and lamo
Thank you for the best comment ever
Honestly would have been 1000x as satisfying in real time. The sound of the printers all going at once was super satisfying. Sad that we'll never get to see that.
Except for the part where they had to wait for the papers to be swept up and formed into piles. That may have taken a few minutes, at least, for each pile -- but yes, it would have been cool to see the printed versions of themselves being replaced from printer to printer - moving like paper animations.
We can honestly call this Art.
_Wait, did i just watch a 3 minute long ad for paper?_
They tricked ya!
didn't it worth it?
Does paper need an ad?
Emmett Rasmussen no. You watched a music video.
Emmett Rasmussen yeah
It's hard enough getting one printer to fucking work...
haha
As an illusionist myself, I always love the ones where you know exactly how it's done and the trick still works. Long live OKG.
By far one of the most creative things I have ever witnessed.
This is why I'm obsessed with these bois.
Take my like
*OK Go working on a new song* OK go's manager: What do we need to buy a ton of now?
Day 1: Eh, treadmills.
*Some time passes*
Pianos. Guitars. Baseball bats. Frames.
An SUV.
I don't think they actually have a manager.
2:20 that blue and black paper on the floor is just jammin out
Lmao
my old 5th and 6th grade science teacher showed these videos in class, he showed us the one where they are in an air plane and the one moment a few years ago, its bc of him that i still watch these videos because this channel is one giant masterpiece
Basically the same experience here, except my 7th and 8th grade science teacher showed the class the rube Goldberg one
How did they coordinate that? Wow. That's amazing.
I suspect they had to create software or something just for the images.
Same way as they do all their stuff, black magic and witchcraft.
OH MY GOD.
I have been waiting for this for so damn long....
Phoenix Pilot 👩✈️
1:19 WHOOPS
😂 I love you guys.
You never thought about it, *no one* ever thought about it, but somehow OK Go got an idea to do something like this.
So how many colored tv panels do you need?
Ok go: oh none, we decided to use printers instead.
once you can hack the printers to be assignable, and control their single page feed command, this becomes possible. Once you realize that the printers only job is to produce pages on demand and not create the art, the possibilities become huge.
This one made my geek heart tingle.
@@OneMouseGaming tingle the thingamagic ✨🔔✨
So how many colored tv panels do you need?
OK Go: No
And I have trouble with getting one printer to work right.
A look so quick
A movement so slight
You could almost imagine
It didn't just happen
But everything'll change
In just one look, one little glance
It's not passin' fascination now
It's obsession
Uh huh, it's obsession
It's obsession
Uh huh, it's obsession
It's obsession
And it's physical
It's like standing at the edge
Your blood starts to pump
'Cause you're worried you might jump
And your head throbbing like a heart
Heart throbbing like a drum
Drums throbbing like the xxxxx
Just go ahead and jump
It's obsession
Uh huh, it's obsession
It's obsession
Uh huh, it's obsession
It's obsession
A look so quick
A movement so slight
Ah, it's not passin' fascination now
It's obsession
Uh huh, it's obsession
It's obsession
Uh huh, it's obsession
It's obsession
Why did you put x’s?
Wow i bet your fingers are tired
If you did it with a tablet your fingers would definitely hurt
XXXX's are "point".
Also near the end they state:
(There's only one way out) x4

Y’all are gods. Seriously
You guys are making some next level art. You create such an interesting combination of audio/video art that I have trouble calling it a song instead of a performance or an experience, or something like that. This one was a treat as always, thank you friends.
"Why do you only draw the same character?"
Me:
😂😂
*"It's obsession"*
Put elbui
I’m going to use this now when someone asks why I have so many characters
Plus the 567 printers
One would think that after Upside Down & Inside Out, these guys wouldn’t want anything more to do with flying of any kind. Awesome video! OK Go never ceases to amaze me with their talent. Kudos to the brains behind the scenes as well =)
I like how it gradually gets more complex as the video goes on, good pace.
(their first album came out later that year)
Though advanced maths, I am able to calculate that this means you were five at the time I was first exposed to their music. I've also used those skills and numbers to calculate that I feel rather old now.
doggo also been a fan since i was 13, but i am not 17
Now 17
That's cool, my sister introduced me to them back in 2009
I wish to see them live, they've never been in my country :/
Can I just say that for this song, I REALLY love the drums used, and the little guitar hook that comes in around 1:06 !!!
totally agreed!
"other people" omg the cleanup! "Me" THE PAPER CUTS
Ryan Vandagriff lol
Ok Go is so freaking unique and amazing with their delivery on music videos it's crazy.

Yay, thanks. I was looking for this.
By far the best seizure I've ever experienced 👍
ahahah it really should come with a health warning, music is also boring deserves its own warning too
Music was awesome
If these guys had hit the scene 35 years ago, these songs would be 80s classics.
Buster Keaton & Charlie Chaplin: "I did jaw dropping stunts in just one attempt."
Jackie Chan: "I may have done around 3,000 takes for a single scene."
Tom Cruise: "I learned how to play pool/snooker with my non-dominant hand, had a knife that was held by a single wire a few micrometers away from my eye, and hung from a fucking cargo plane that was taking off."
OK Go: "We exist."
Is there a different Tom Cruise pool movie I'm not thinking of 'cause I'm pretty sure he shoots pool with his left hand in The Color of Money. He does often wield a gun and other impressive things with his non-dominant hand in other movies though.
OK Go:
“We make awesome music videos”
F
You guys always have the coolest vids (:
That has to be witchcraft to get that many printers to cooperate
they are just connected to one computer and the computer do all the work. Only need like one guy to program it.
You should see those that requires hundreds of humans to synchronized & cooperate like their video "i wont let you down"
Cay V I think he's more impressed they weren't jamming. ;)
I agree. My printer seems to be psychic. It seems to know when I have to print something quickly and it chooses then to run out of ink or jam or something would go wrong in the software. Actually, the Canon I use now is much more cooperative than the HP printer that it replaced.
Yeah, no kidding, I can barely get one to cooperate with itself
agreed. my printer at work has to be rebooted at least 5 times a day because of a jam or internal error.
It was genius to make the paper printing and falling the actual beat to the song. Just, muah, chef's kisses
