The fact that this video only has 16 million views is disturbing. This is one of the most innovative and amazing music videos....ever. I really wish I could know how they did some of it. WOW.
Jonathan Reiterman You can have green things with green screen. Just takes post-processing or someone at the controls to adjust the system doing the processing.
Jeffry Fleischer Actually, when shooting green things, typically a blue screen is used. It'd be very very difficult to do the chroma with all this green stuff against a green screen.
Ok this is literally incredible for so many reasons. The incredible choreography, staying on beat and synchronized the whole time, using over a THOUSAND people, not to mention the fact that it was shot in one take. It gives off the same vibes as the opening shot of A Touch of Evil
Hey I actually know the movie reference! Evocative of the advancement of technology, looks like the creative team behind this music video updated the crane shot to a drone shot. Amazing piloting there just a few feet above the ground and indoors! And I totally agree with you, this video blew my mind that such choreography would even be possible.
@@solanaceous Oh, you are very wrong. The making of this video is well documented, took thousands of people, thousands of dancers, and--as in every OK GO video there is no CGI, animation, or visual tricks. That's OK GO's thing, after all.
@@wilkeath One visual trick they did use was filming in half speed (or something similar) to buy time for the choreography, then bumping up the speed in post to match the music. I dont fault them for it though, having thousands of people moving at the speed required at full speed would lead to accidents really easily. Half speed gives everyone twice as much time to get into position and sync their movements.
There are so many things about this video that are hard to wrap my brain around. The catchiness of the song. The number of umbrellas. The fact that it was done in seamless one-shot/one-camera style. The choreography. The peaceful bit of bliss at the end. But MOST of all? The fact that 7,200 people hit the DISLIKE button. HOW?!?

@@liimlsan3 No, I think they meant that the entire thing was recorded without splicing 2 or more different recordings, that the entire video was one continuous recording, not that it was first try
AFAIK they weren't able to do splices or many takes, because the weather was so bad in Japan for weeks. It rain all the time and the drone couldn't fly in the heavy winds. They had a very small window where the sun came out for just some minutes. They did their try and succeeded. Seriously the coolest music video ever. The fact that this isn't recognized as just the awesome achievement that it is by more people is just crazy. It starts off cool with the little bike things they're on, and just gets more and more crazy as the video goes on lol.
OK GO: "How much did our album make?" Executive: "About $100K. What's the budget for the video?" OK GO: "$20 million" Executive: "Do it." Best decision ever. I can watch this everyday.
This was filmed at Long Wood Station in Chiba Prefecture, Japan. I have filmed a shoe commercial (for a shoe retailer) there. It isn't cheap, but neither is it super expensive. This is a failed shopping mall that has been retained as a film shooting studio and event space.
"Guys, you know that totally awesome and almost impossible dance number you did on Treadmills?" "Yeah?" "People on yoitube are copying it exactly! "Oh yeah? lets see them copy THIS!!"
I can't explain what this song does to me. But from the first time I saw the video. When the umbrellas started coming In different colors I lost my damn mind !!! It was so powerful. It makes my heart smile. Makes me almost wanna cry tears of happiness . Weirdd ... Over umbrellas. Lol it's more than that though. Like the way it moves me . I'm just so happy listening !!!
I have watched this multiple times but only now after two years in marching band does it hit me how incredibly long this must have took to make and the dedication of those students.
watching Ok Go's video always make me emotional. Doesn't matter which one or what the song is ever about something about seeing all the effort they put into their work and all the people that they bring together to make it happen and all the thought that goes into it makes me feel big emotions. Its like imagine how proud every person who participated in something like this feels to pull something this big off. Its like they always put together a great team every time they do something like this and all I can imagine is how good it feels to be apart of something like that
This is where I fell in love with Perfume, and I didn't even know it at the time. I just thought "Jesus, the production assistants in Japan are absurdly fashionable..." Yeah, they are literally radiantly charismatic pop stars, ya dufus.

duuuudue been trying to find this band and this mv for years. This has been my goto 420 vid. lmaaao. memories hit hard
5 yrs later until to this year i still stan every video of OK GO. They are like the most creative band ever
My mind. Blown. Scattered. All over the ground.
...
...
I also need a swirly umbrella.
Brilliant use of color and motion.
Drones and zones. So sweet.
this music video it's a totally insane!
Are you Italian?
No I'm Spanish
+KEEP CALM and PLAY SOCCER IN YOUR PAJAMAS lmao
yeah i mean that must have bin a lot of work jsut to make the first part with the umbrella but the end is soooooo freaking awesome
The last part especially is just impossible to imagine. The perfect synchronization of so many people. This band is out of this world!
Luckily Honda sponsored them. They made the scooters.
Unless they have a sponsor (which has mostly been the case recently), OK Go actually usually has a low budget for their music videos.
they didn't let you down
This was filmed at Long Wood Station in Chiba Prefecture, Japan. I have filmed a shoe commercial (for a shoe retailer) there. It isn't cheap, but neither is it super expensive. This is a failed shopping mall that has been retained as a film shooting studio and event space.
It’s said on Wikipedia that they’re know for their low budget music, if I’m correct. It’s their ideas that are so bizarre
I still can't believe the end bit to this day, that is just absolutely incredible. Best music video of all time.
すごすぎる………今まで知らなかったのが悔しい
"Guys, you know that totally awesome and almost impossible dance number you did on Treadmills?"
"Yeah?"
"People on yoitube are copying it exactly!
"Oh yeah? lets see them copy THIS!!"
Let's do it XD
Joshua Knode XD LOL
Joshua Knode What? THEY COPIED THIS!?!?!? Get the plane, were doin 0-G
... when I saw that, it just *pissed me off*. I though that OkGo were spying on me, when I work out. ;p
Everyone's over here talking about how amazing it is that this is a one shot and here I am freaking out over Perfume at the beginning.
this is Art
I can't explain what this song does to me. But from the first time I saw the video. When the umbrellas started coming In different colors I lost my damn mind !!! It was so powerful. It makes my heart smile. Makes me almost wanna cry tears of happiness . Weirdd ... Over umbrellas. Lol it's more than that though. Like the way it moves me . I'm just so happy listening !!!
I have watched this multiple times but only now after two years in marching band does it hit me how incredibly long this must have took to make and the dedication of those students.
I counted the people at the end [4:00 and up]
There are 1,728 with coloured umbrellas and 600 in the white below for a total of 2,328!
are you sure? I counted 1730.
@@BartleyTroyan yup, I missed the two on the far right
@@gweeto052 how autistic are you two
I can barely get my umbrella to open on a rainy day, let alone this level of wizardry
Is yours collapsable?
SlackのCMみて聞き覚えあると思ったらこの曲だったのか、、MVと曲に再び感動してる
Kudos to the camera drone operator....that was an amazing job.
3:09 always gets me, this part is honestly brilliant.
watching Ok Go's video always make me emotional. Doesn't matter which one or what the song is ever about something about seeing all the effort they put into their work and all the people that they bring together to make it happen and all the thought that goes into it makes me feel big emotions. Its like imagine how proud every person who participated in something like this feels to pull something this big off. Its like they always put together a great team every time they do something like this and all I can imagine is how good it feels to be apart of something like that
i STILL remember watching this one SIX YEARS AGO in a stem class and i finally found it again
good times.
This is where I fell in love with Perfume, and I didn't even know it at the time. I just thought "Jesus, the production assistants in Japan are absurdly fashionable..."
Yeah, they are literally radiantly charismatic pop stars, ya dufus.
