- In this episode we finish off our NMEA network install. We decide to repaint the topsides of our boat and officially rename her,
We used Epifanes primer and poly-urethane paint for this paint project, which we purchased from Jackson Marine in the UK.
A big thank you to Jimmy who created and put the new name on the boat.

Good fun, watching the trial and error of boat yard efforts. Our Vega was our first sailboat, as well, and I applaud you finding the grit to redo what didn't please. Do be careful. Our Vega led to a lifelong affection for sailing away and our last boat took us to 53 countries and island nations. Congratulations to you both.
Oh wow, thats amazing. Hats off to you guys. We hope that we could even do half of what you have done.
Looking good, nice colour.
Thanks Mike 👍
Congratulations & safe sailing in Solfar. God bless
Thank you so much.
Looking great, love the color! We installed nmea 2000 last year. So much easier than the old nmea 0183 that we had before. Before there was soldering and a lot of stuff, now there are backbone and drop cabels, just love it:). Fair winds from Northern Norway
Apologies for the late reply, we hadn't seen your comment. Thank you, we really like how the grey looked 😁. The nmea2k is so good. Really easy for even people like us with no electrical knowledge or skills. We hope to continue to add things to it. Enjoying your videos to guys 👌
Looks good. Solfar would translate to 'sunny father' in Swedish 😀
Thank you very much. It's taken from the Icelandic sculpture Solfar in Reykjavik
Lovely paint job that girl got a sexy new dress lol! Hopefully things will get back to normal and you-all can go on some adventure.
Thanks Charles. Here's praying this is the best sailing year yet 🙏
Ahh excellent timing both! I'm on night shift so now I'll have my night sorted.. Next one will be ready for tomorrow night Yeah? Lol. 😆👍
Thank you 😁. Ahh well the next ones will start coming quicker but it wod be a push for tomorrow 😂😂

Fantastic job Mark and Kellie. You should be very proud of what you have achieved. Looking forward to seeing her afloat and cruising around the beautiful coast.
Thank you so much. We are really happy with the result. Annimprovement on our previous attempt. The grey really looks great on her 😊
Thoroughly enjoyed your video today Mark. You and Kelly have put in some hard graft there. The paint job looks amazing. May you have many happy voyages on Sofar. Fair winds and calm seas.
Thanks Bob. It's a graft indeed with all the sanding, but we think it was worth it 😁
Time consuming job but fantastic result.
It really was time consuming. So much sanding was taking its toll on our sanity lol
Boat looks great. Really enjoy the laid back style of your videos... all the little interactions with others in the boatyard for example.
Thank you very much. I like to think Kellie and I are pretty laid back. It helps that the guys in the yard are really knowledgeable and helpful too. Keeps the stress levels low with us 😁
Great Teamwork…Sólfar looks great 😊 🙌🏼⛵️
Thank you ❤️🙏
The paint job looks lovely guys. I found when painting in warm weather, paint the side that's in the shade first and then work your way around the whole boat. Start about lunchtime and by the time you get to the other side, that will also be in the shade and then do the stern last. The paint drys slower and gives you more time to work it. Can't wait for your next videos, hopefully some of you sailing 😀 😃
Hi Lee. Yeah that's what we tried to do. Left transom to the end and try to time it with the suns movement lol. Probably could have used a bit more thinners to give us more working time as it dried quickly with the heat
Fantastic paint job guys. Hopefully youse will make it as far as the Clyde this year (2022) and stop off at Millport on Cumbrae island. Wish youse many happy hours sailing. Love your vids.👍
Thank you so much. Yes we plan to do a lot of sailing over that way around May or June time. Nfeel free to recommend any areas that we need to check out 😁
Nice job, Kellie and Mark. Love the colour. You’ll only dazzle the rest of us out of the water next season!
Thanks Claire, she does look shiny but I'm sure a few days of bad weather and salty water will knock the dazzle of her lol.
The paint job is great. Good job
Thank you. Worth the hard work preparing
Well done boat looks fab glad to see you back
Thanks Sara. We really appreciate it 😁
It looks brilliant 👍
Thank you. We are really happy with it for 2 amateurs 😁
Great colour and nice finish, interesting Vega on "sailing sea ma chilli" channel. Vega aground! worth a watch. Keep up the good work. J.
Hi James, thank you for the comment. Oh I haven't heard of that channel but will check it out. Always keen to look at other Vegas 😁
Such great videos. I'm planning to do the same on my Vega this year, so will be coming back to this one again.
Thanks Barry. Well if we can help in anyway when it comes to it, let us know
@@LittleBoatAdventures Thanks folks
I must rename my boat to . Where I will find the ceremony..on internet..what I must say and do ..the step by step procedure to rename my boat. Thanks Mario
Hi Mario. Yes we found the ceremony on the Internet.
Vega rose in the background is up for sale
Really? Where did you see that? Would be interested to see how she fixed up. She lay neglected for many years in the boat yard before being taken away a year or 2 ago
Seen on Apollo duck think white star sales is the contact but it could be an old advert?
great vid
Thank you so much 🙏
for the rolling you should NOT use the mohair rollers…..better to use the foam rollers. Also rolling and tipping the primer would have worked ;-) But you made the best out of it AND achieved a great result !
Thanks for the advice 🙏
Hello again :-) How many tins of primer, and top coat did you require? I'm pretty much following to your exact steps here. Cheers
We used 2 tins of each. But it workeked our as 1 coat of each. When applied. We tried to get a good thickness of primer on so we didn't lose too much when sanding it fair before applying top coat.
@@LittleBoatAdventures Hey thank you again. Cheers
Lovely Paint job how much do ye charge? Did you wet sand the Epi primer? and another great video, really enjoy your channel, firmly in the serious sailing set and no the bikinis & drama!
Thanks Ritchie, we appreciate it. We arent into the bikinis and click bate stuff. Raw and unscripted amateurs haha. We wouldn't charge anyone. Merely be of assistance to anyone that might need a couple of amateurs help lol.
Hi Mark, just followed a very similar path to you, I now have a Vega in Bangor, could I chat with you sometime?
Yes of course. Is the boat called Flicka? You can private message on Instagram if that suits
Nice job 👍 What kind of primer did you use, or did you use the polyurethane right on the fiberglas? Thanks for sharing all your videos 😊
Thanks Benn. We used the epifanes 2 part primer shown in the video. We applied it over the original gel coat that we had prepared by scuffing up the gel coat with 80grit sand paper. We used epifanes for the topcoat too.
Such a great job 🤩 How much thinner did you use on the primer and top layer? Was it enough with one top layer?
can jimmy do my boat?
Yes of course
