I used to eat this way with the grains, vegetables, no red meat. But Stuck not being able to lose weight I gained during menopause. Had hip pain at night, poor sleep. Desperate, I began eating way way more healthy animal protein (mainly beef) and cut way back on my beloved salads, nuts, seeds, dairy, and stopped my low calorie lifestyle. And began strength training. Went very low carb. And increasing my calories (but eating only Whole Foods.) I lost 15 lbs in 3 months. Feel satisfied, no sugar or grains. Feel better than in decades.
Thank you so much for posting this! It’s helpful hearing about your journey, because it really highlights that diet is not and should not be the same for everyone. Not only that, since our bodies change over time, it makes sense that our diets do too. It’s so wonderful that you were willing to change things up to see what works for you. I am sure many other folks will benefit from hearing about your experience 😊
I had a very sedentary desk job for 30 years. I did exercise intermittently but also was tempted at work with treats, lattes, and catered lunches almost everyday. I also had an hour commute both ways to work. I sat about eight hours a day just for my job. Then I’d get home and after dinner would sit two more to three hours watching TV. I’d hike on weekends or walked during the week but it did not keep me from gaining 40 pounds! Grateful for this video Dr. Anna😊
This was an excellent video especially when you honed in on setpoint. I am a 67 year old and the last 5 lbs I have been working on forever. (Thanks I believe to setpoint)But I am also determined to get there via the mediterranean way-so I am as healthy as possible along the way. So -thank you so much for being our educator- I would LOVE some heady deep dives into that fat topic you referenced. Lastly where do you practice? I have been looking forever for a physician that’s proactive - you are a very rare gift.
Wonderful presentation! You made reference to foods that can influence metabolism and cell health. Would you be willing to make another video explaining this topic? Thanks, Dr. Anna!
glad you ask! I certainly can, but it is a textbook-worth of knowledge! A whole foods, plant-centric diet seems to be the healthiest for our bodies, no matter what the balance of specific foods or macronutrients are.
Thank you so much for this explanation to weight loss and gain. You explained it in simple terms that I could totally understand. The "set point" is rather discouraging because I know what weight I want to be and its a struggle getting there. I sabotage myself far too often, working out and then having some type of dessert that is not weight loss friendly. I learn so much from your videos and will keep watching them and send them along to my sister who has some health issues. Please keep the videos and your knowledge coming to us. :0)
Would you please make a video covering risks vs rewards of anorexia? I have a12 year old daughter that has been struggling with it and because she has a needle phobia I can’t get any programs to accept her, because they all want/require lab work.
Hi there, thanks for the question. Given that anorexia nervosa is a disorder of behavior and psychological perception, it’s best addressed by psychology or behavioral specialists rather than nutritional or diet professionals. Unfortunately, I am not trained or specialized in the area of psychiatry, so I’m not sure my viewpoint is warranted. I hope that helps!
