The glass greenhouse painted black just pops, great selection on the color. I can picture the stainglass window lit by chandeliers glistening at night, and this beautiful table top your friend made just shining. The greenhouse will be magical!
My southern gothic heart is HERE for this. I got a handful of different kinds of black irises from Schrieners this past fall and they’re just starting to come up. I can’t wait for the blooms. Very excited to watch your dream come into being!
Love Iris!! My Dad took a section of our back yard and planted it all in Iris, every color he could find, way back in the 50's. I loved it. Have been renting the past 12 years (no digging in the yard allowed) and finally am going to container plant a veggie and flower garden and iris must be a part of it. Still having nights in the low 30⁰'s F so gathering things now. God bless.
Oh I live near schreiners and I plan to get some black iris this year when I go for my first visit, I bet you are excited to see them bloom!

I have a black house, a black greenhouse, and all the out buildings are black. The beautiful pinks, oranges, greens, yellows pop so well when the garden blooms.
My Jeremiah and I do a lot of high fives and "go team!" as we get our stuff done. It's something special between us, and is a show of our great companionship and team feeling that we build. I love your hand shaking, that's so cute for you guys :) Have a lovely day, Jess!

I can't wait to see the black greenhouse with the stain glass window. A black bat flower would be a great addition. I'm so glad Miriam is learning to be a good mom. I "babysat" a woman's sour dough when she went on vacation. She even had a backup sitter in case I got tired of caring for it.
Personally if I was going for a black finish on wood, I would do learn how to do that ancient Japanese technique of burn/charring the wood surface and then applying a clear sealer.
Shoshugiban! We did that on the trim of our old chicken coop!

I am, my son was, and so is my grandson. He's been complimented often since he was little on his firm handshake, no wet fish here! His small elementary school had a fund raiser to get new equipment for the play yard. It was a walk a thon. Tge whole school raised about $1200 to 1300 dollars. My grandson and his firm handshake earned $350 of it all on his own.
@@teresamariner4238 Love that story! Mine isn't as cool. The D.A.R.E officer in my class in 4th grade lined us all up and taught us how to give a handshake. I don't see how it is drug prevention related but a lesson that stuck with me all the same!😅
The black is going to make everything pop so well. Also it will add the elegance element to go with chandelier.
When I was young, my Dad would order roses from the Jackson-Perkins catalog and my mom, sister and I would get to choose one. My mom went for the fragrant pale pink Queen Elizabeth. My sister chose Fire 'N Ice (red petals on one side, white underneath) but I chose Smoky, a deep purple. I've always been the black sheep in the flower family. Your greenhouse will be gorgeous!
I LOVE Homestead and Chill's sourdough starter tutorial using grated organic apple to give it a little boost. I was following a very regimented, specific tutorial before and it just wasn't working out. But her trick worked SO WELL! From there it was just "does it look soupy enough? Cool, done." and has been ever since 😅

Jess, I have a sourdough starter my friend created from
Wild yeast but recently acquired pizza dough from a pizzeria in NY when I was out for my sister’s wedding. I took this home and was able to create a poolish with it that I manage similarly to the sourdough in the fridge. I make pizzas with it weekly and maintained the NY Pizzeria’s dough flavor and NEVER have to buy yeast again. I’d be happy to share specifics on measurements and process if interested.

I think the black is going to be beautiful. I watch a you tube channel in Vermont. A house was built out in a beautiful country setting and it was painted black. Never thought I would say this but it is beautiful. Summertime with all the greenery and then winter with all the snow. It stands out. Can’t wait to see yours finished. I’m so happy for you Jess. I'm glad you found enough black oil based paint to cover the frame of the window greenhouse. That will preserve it much better than any other type of paint. I'm excited to see these glass pieces that have set the theme of your greenhouse decor. I can't wait to see the fountain in front of it too! I'm glad to see that you've gotten Mirriam to mother her kids too. They are still pretty clumsy. I can't wait to see Nestle's kids too. Thanks for this Jess. As you walked past all of YOUR farm equipment, on YOUR new farm, next to YOUR cows, with YOUR barn in the distance, and YOUR future green house and garden belt.... I couldn’t help but feel so so SO happy for you!! Girl, your living YOUR DREAM!!!! You and sweet Mia are doing it! Looking back at your garden at the old farm in 2019 to now... like what?!?!!!!! There are many black green houses in England. I love it. Last year I had black ranunculus, holylhocks and tulips too,
There is a place for black in a bright and bubbly life. The contrast makes the bright even brighter.
Black showcases everything else. It also expands the eye beyond its borders. Your greenhouse will feel so much bigger than you can even imagine. Great choice. I cant wait to see it come together.
I just started sourdough this year and am still learning. One of my favorite recipes is sourdough skillet from Lisa at Farmhouse on Boone. It’s so tasty and a super fast recipe…it’s basically meat of your choice, seasonings, veggies, all fried up…then a sourdough mixture you pour over top and grated cheese and then put in the oven. It’s so easy and tasty…so if you’re looking for another way to use your starter, check it out.
AT first I thought the black paint might have been "Y-shield" to protect against EMFs..... Although most people paint a nicer color over the Y shield after it dries.

I feel you on the homesteader, mom of a bunch of kids in sports, working from home mama! So many good things to balance. Our oldest graduates this year and I can't figure out where the years went but I'm so grateful to have been able to invest my time into our kids ❤ Worth every second of the crazy. The greenhouse will be gorgeous. With the black it will retain the heat even more. Excited for Miriam. Those little tails and butts wiggling are too cute. I will miss her when the time comes. We haven't seen Kahn in a long while. Used to be even in the house we'd get glimpses. He's too funny. Hopefully he's doing okay as well. Blessings.

A friend of mine who lives in SE BC Canada built a wood fire bread oven and started up a business selling sourdough bread and sourdough pizzas. It was wildly popular in the local area and he sold the bread in shops in about a dozen small communities in the area. I ordered pizza from there whenever I was in his town. He has aged out and retired. I will miss his offerings.

We just created a sourdough mother. After feeling like we were complete failures, she's thriving!

I have always loved dark colors for buildings and believe they are very beautiful. They also are a wonderful backdrop for light or bright-colored flowers and plants. I wanted to paint all of our barns and outbuildings black, but my husband and I compromised on dark green with red doors and a beige-grey trim and they are gorgeous. After 4 years, I am still enamored with them! Also, when you have dark window frames and are inside, the outdoors pops and is centerstage instead of the window frames. 😊
Lol! Iam from the north and was in what was a primarily ale job…I always gave a good, firm handshake just to let them no I wasn’t “lesser” that they were! LOVE the green house!

Many years ago I grew a small night garden. Lots of different white flowers against a solid background, mine was against a my garden shed. As it got dark, you could still see the flowers in this garden, it was really lovely! Your black garden made me remember my white one.

Because we in the south teach and emphasize our sons to be gentle to women and to honor them. That’s why they are gentle when shaking their hands! My husband wasn’t raised by a southerner! Sigh, hugs and love from Texas!
So my husband asked what time it was, I checked my phone(and had seen that you posted this video) and my response was “Oh good, she’s a good mom!”. My husband: “oh that goat?”. Even my husband knows what’s going on on your farm🤣. If that greenhouse looks even remotely close to what I’m picturing, we’re all going to be in awe. I’m so excited for you!!! I know it’s hard to wait for all of your plans to come together but it will be soooo worth it in the end! When you’re anxious or down, just think of Asparagus!!!

Omgosh I fell in love with black flowers last year too! And all the deep purples that are almost black. Then I stained all the fencing and raised beds in a transparent black stain. I love it!! So I understand!!

Its sweet seeing you be that experienced BFF that every new to nursing Mom needs. I struggled with my first 2 babies and only nursed for a couple months. Without my bestie helping I would've struggled with this 3rd baby and likely gave up instead of making is 16 months 🙌🙌

I love how your 27 acres has become a familiar (virtual) oasis for my farm-loving soul. I am now old and past the time of opportunity for having my own, so I 'live this love' on your land. Your land (and your animals) has become one of my 'happy places'. I grab my own cup of coffee (or herbal tea, depending on the time of day) and join you as you include me in your daily routines. I do have raised bed kitchen gardens of my own but nothing on the scale that you are doing. So, a huge 'thank you' for your frequent, viewer-friendly vlogs and your virtual hospitality.

I just learned a little about the Japanese style of scorching wood structures to preserve it and deter insects. Too bad you and Mia didn't know about that before looking for oil-based paint!
I am planting black hollyhocks in my garden for my jet-black mastiff who just passed so I can go and talk to him. He loved munching on cucumbers in the garden as I weeded. I am devastated to have a garden season he can't be a part of physically, so in spirit he will eternally. Thank you for your education and inspiration.

Little tip - screw hooks horizontally facing away from the gates into the wood posts, then you chain the gates closed with one hand a lot easier
