    Hey Kev, can't thank you enough. Just finished the job today and was literally following you step by step. The only difference was I found it easier to remove the suspension arm from the 2 bolts rather than the ball joint.
    I did panic a little bit when I couldn't work out where the speedo drive is. I though I ripped it off but its all working. Thanks for the great video. There is only one small thing that could elevate it, if you had subtitles or something showing which size tools you are using.
    P.S. YOU BEAST !!! THAT GEARBOX WEIGHS A F**K TON. I bitched out and used a jack to help me lift it :D

    I really enjoy your videos. You are a very professional mechanic. Without unnecessary movements, very enjoyable content for those who respect manual work and profession. Under the car in the cold windy weather, totally alone.
    It can be hard paralell with this complex work to handle the camera. Respect for your work! Thank you!

    I'm super impressed! Hard working man. Tough! Strong! Enduring the weather out in the cold. Obviously, knows what he's doing! Excellent filming! I now feel like I've now done a transporter diesel. We don't have those here in USA. Mobile clutch business? Interesting business model, but I'm impressed that he's doing it! I'm a Vw diesel mechanic and a transmission guy so I would know. Subscribed.

      CoolAirVw Rm thanks for a great review. Really appreciate it coming from a VW mechanic makes it the more valuable.
      Since I launched the business i have yet to have a day without booking. Usually it’s two weeks waiting list. I suppose it works well as a lot of my customers are at work and they come out. Vehicle is ready to head home. Or for anyone having a day off work I’m there at their premise.... so the convenience is the USP. Thanks again for taking time to visit and subscribe to the channel. Very much appreciated

    Hola Kevin !

      I've been a chef for 30 years originally from Manchester.
      I have one of the T4 and been doing a lot of my own work in it.
      Just a hobby .
      Defiantly enjoy playing around with it.
      Helps when you have all the tools.
      It's funny because I never did want to become a mechanic.
      But I'm really enjoying working on this van and I also have a Ford falcon XR6. That I have done some basic work.
      I'm looking at getting another T4 but auto.
      Has a gear box problem only goes in 1st and second.
      That's how I found your Chanel.

I have never seen it. By the way, it seemed to me that you lubed a socket and the square with the red grease at near the end of the video. Is it because it is not an impact socket? Man.. where are the days when we pulled a Beetle engine at 18:00, pullled the gearbox, transfer the side-shafts to a new one, replace box, bleed brakes, engine back and test drive at 21:00....
    This is one serious job!

    This is why I left the motor trade after my apprenticeship, there are cleaner - and safer - ways to earn a living. I remember doing front seals on Jaguar XJ6s, no matter how often I wiped the crankshaft, oil would always drip in my ear. In my time we didn't wear gloves, painful boils on a weekly basis were the order of the day. My mistake was trying to make a hobby my career. Well, at least I'm qualified to work on my own car. :)

    Awesome video. I'm about to do one for a friend this weekend.
    Just two questions:
    1: what is holding the subframe, why is it not on the floor ?
    2: did you not have to align the clutch to the pressure plate?
    Hopefully you will answer before I find out the hard way :D
    great Video, great job, much respect mate!!!

    • @WMCS
      @WMCS  4 года назад +3

      1. Only unbolt the one side of the subframe as shown in the video. And the mounts.
      If it’s a 1.9 or a 2.0 they are much easier than the 2.5 there’s video of the the two others on the channel.
      Watch both for more in depth alignment of clutch. And you don’t have to remove the long drive shaft either.
      On this 2.5 I used my finger to centre the plate.

    • @taipoio1
      @taipoio1 4 года назад

      @@WMCS Thanks for the answer. I'm doing a 2.5tdi.
      I though you only did one side of the subframe but wasn't sure if you just didn't film the other side.
      I will try to use the alignment tool I've got if I can squeeze it in.
      Was it a pain lifting it back up ? I have an engine crane.. was considering using a sling and the crane before watching you bench it 🤣

    • @WMCS
      @WMCS  4 года назад +2

      If you need more room then slacken the other side of the subframe about 1/2 inch and it should give you more space for the gearbox to go into the wheel arch.
      You should have plenty room for the alignment tool that way.
      The box is heavy. I’m not gonna lie ., at least 11stone .,, so an extra pair of hands would come in handy.

    I'm about to tackle this job but also replacing the gearbox on a T5. My only concern is the weight of the gearbox. Is it possible to manhandle it back in place with physical strength or would you need a jack of some kind?

    Great video, camera work is probably the best i have seen for a technical video. What is the square block made of on your trolly jack?, and is it an after market product?. (where can it be bought from?) Excellent workmanship. 👍

    Great work, but why no torque wrench specially fly wheel side installation ,and is it otherwise the torque setting of impact wrench as substitute?You drive a Vauxhall / Renault Van are they better to work on than VW? And lastly for the viewers "Getriebeseite" writing on friction plate translates to Gearbox side.

    • @stevemacbr
      @stevemacbr 3 года назад +1

      Fly-wheel side,... he pulled on that wrench with a grunt at the end,... so those bolts ain't going anywhere.
