A great video showing almost all the important steps. As you can see it requires a solid set of basic tools, a few decent torque wrenches, and every bolt seems to have a torque then angle step, so a decent angle gauge is required. Then you quickly realise you need a heap of special tools. I'm a very competent home mechanic, yet this bloody engine has tested me no end. Taken me months longer and lots more $$ than I had hoped. Even the Haynes manual misses some important steps that VW recommend. You really need both the Haynes manual and the genuine repair manual from Erwin. This process shown can be done in the car ( for a Transporter or Sprinter, unknown for the R5 Toureg ) but it is annoying for access in places. Seems to be far better known in Europe than over here in Australia, where it's taken ages and a LOT of research to work everything out. This is one engine where in hindsight I would actually have rathered let a specialist do it if I knew what I know now, and I LOVE getting my hands dirty. First engine in my 52 years that I wish I had NOT experienced, thanks VW!
I'm in the process of rebuilding mine. New crank and full set of shell bearings. I'm confused on the timing setup. Especially the balancing gear. Any tips?
@@davidhughes2755 sorry mate, never took anything off below the head, and timing that is difficult enough! There are a few videos showing the entire gearset assembly, will try and link if I kept them in any list, but remember the R5 Toureg had the same engine and there's lots out there in Toureg land as well as Transporter.
hey bro, what makes it difficult for my Volkswagen Caravelle TDI to start after disassembling the engine , but after turning on, the engine starts normally
Mfg
I dont mean to be offtopic but does anyone know a trick to log back into an Instagram account..? I somehow lost my password. I appreciate any tips you can offer me.
Why you do not show the people how to put the camshaft gear on signs? It has a line which you should put it horizontally with the head in the right side. If you do not do that you will have no power because that is the timing injection.
Anyone who is doing this then this guy has missed out one of the most important tasks to this job. He has not shown the viewers that when he put the cam shift sprocket on, he did not show the timing mark on the righthand side of the engine. She clearly shows the left hand side but not the other. You have a flat line on the sprocket, that has to lie horizontal to the cylinder head Its the same line on the aluminium cast that sits in the head from the lower sprocket. Both need to lie flat to the cylinder head Hope this makes sense As this guy shows nothing about lining up the sprocket to the timing marks as there is no key way in the sprocket Over and out
Toll so ein Stummfilm!

@@davidhughes2755 ruclips.net/video/AJMc8VCZFr4/видео.html these guys are in Latvia and specialize in this engine.
@@gregroles69 appreciate the reply 👍 it's definitely a slow process

@Alonso Bentley Instablaster ;)
coldblooded1886 or 0.5 Nm. 😁

Does anyone know what size 12spline alenkey the single can bolt is is it m13?

You have space with the engine on the car to do this? Or you have to take the bloody engine out from the car?
Prezentácia o ničom kdeže chlapík nemusel robiť nič toho čo obsahuje serióznu prácu automechanika
Danke nicht 👎👎👎👎
